    Interesting commentary on Perth...is the town like the office? I thought the countryside was beautiful but didn't get a rosy feeling from the business centre... 😂

    • @amysrambles6748
      @amysrambles6748 9 днів тому

      Thankfully the town centre is a little nicer than the office. Quite friendly and very dog friendly, so its a nice place to grab a coffee or lunch with friends spread out around the country. It's just the office that's less than appealing.

    I've always found it fascinating how wildly tastes vary amongst friend groups with books and other media. I am glad you did enjoy Mary Poppins, it was a slightly strange recommendation on my part, but its definitely one of those books that is such a critical piece of our pop culture, that it should be read. I love the idea of book to media vlog, and would happily lend you Rats of NIMH as you have already declined Watership Down!

    AHAHAHAHA 🙈 "I'm a little annoyed at Rosika!" ....cut to me literally flinching in my kitchen on another continent! BUT IT IS A STANDALONE!!!! Technically..... I think he did write it to be a stand alone then said later he'd do a sequel. Plus is it my fault he wrote 1000000 books other than finishing what should definitely be a series..... Although hear me out , MAYBE by saying it can be read as a stand alone was me being "anti spoiler" for your benefit...... it's not a good defense, but it's the logical fallacy I'm standing on. I definitely thought I was gonna get yelled at harder. Ahahaha and Joel needing a good slap in the face is definitely part of the reading experience 🤣 Also I thought of another bookish pet peeve you may enjoy: when there is a cat featured on the cover and then no cat in the book at all." We're gonna call it cat fishing. I'm gonna make it happen. And yes screw fake stickers.

      I apologise for the kitchen anxiety! But yeah, that book is not a standalone. Or it is, but in the same way the Mistborn era 1 books are standalone. So many questions left unanswered! The way he ends it, he had to know when writing it that it was never just going to be one book 😭😭😭 This cat fishing example feels like you have been burned by it recently - which book hurt Rosika? Which book do I need to manage my expectations for?

    • @themidnightreader
      @themidnightreader 6 місяців тому

      @@amysrambles6748 Ahahaha it least it was comedically funny kitchen anxiety! It was kinda like when you're a kid and your mom says your name in that special way that means you're in trouble and you almost drop a plate while trying to duck out of sight? THAT was the sensation.😂I do think he has a habit of doing that, even Elantris and Warbreaker had loose threads to keep following. I was catfished by Days at the Morasaki Bookshop. So much cat on all the versions of the cover, ZERO CATS. Not even a whisper of a hairball. I'm still damaged over it.

    Fingers crossed on the interview 🙂 At the very least it will have given you the confidence boost for any future ones, you definitely deserved a win there. Dune - I had to stop about a third of the way through the book and watch the original movie (which completely freaked me out as a kid so I had never seen it all the way through) to get a handle on the politics. After that, I blitzed the book and thoroughly enjoyed - I think its best taken in several forms of media! RE: your books to buy problem - set up a wish list and share at Christmas/birthday, I'd always rather pick something up for someone that they've asked for than blindly guess! And then theres no guilt for adding to the collection...

    Amen and hallelujah to LOTR extended edition, heehee that was how the husband got me over for our first date actually, perfection in film! Congrats on getting through the interview! It's such a stressful process, and i'm happy you made it through! As a fellow sufferer of the non standardized work hours, it makes it so hard to develop and stick to routines, which is bad because I find routines relaxing... since I am a dork. Excuse me while I am ridiculously impressed by DIY bobbins, I embroider (also) sporadically and have never through of doing that! My mom taught me in her attempts to make me a proper victorian lady, however as an adult I must say embroidering swear words is pure delight, much to my mother's dismay. Continuing on the stitching theme... Threads that Bind sounds SO FREAKING GOOD! I'm starting to realize maybe I don't 100% love greek retellings as much as I thought I did, I keep getting irritated by authors never changing up the story at all. Maybe it's my own dang fault for reading so much mythology so I just wanna shake the authors and go DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Use the bones differently! I just read Fourth Wing! heehee it is a delightful romantasy romp even when it drove me nuts. Heehee I keep hearing really good things about You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight! Excuse the ridiculously long comment, but a lovely long video deserves a lovely long comment. P.S. the cakes are baked!

      That sounds like the best first date!!!! Two Towers is showing this coming Sunday so excited for that - need to start planning out my snacks. Speaking of snacks - you left out some very important information in your mega-comment! What kind of cakes did you bake?!?!?! I'm very food orietated and must know! Folk really don't appreciate just how good routines are until you have to really put effort into maintaining them! I wouldn't be too impressed by the bobbins - literally just cut out bits of cardboard, and I grudge paying for 'proper' ones when I have what I need for them and am already in a crafting mood. Haha you're poor mum, if only she knew what you would do with her teachings. My mum is the opposite - she loves it if I show her something less than traditional. And the best way to love a hobby like this is to stitch what amuses us! For me it's mostly disney themed 🤷‍♀ I have definitely found that for any stories relating to existing mythology I much prefer 'inspired by' than 'retellings'. I like seeing what originality the author can bring to it rather than a rehashing. I tend to only really enjoy retellings of mythos or legends I'm not overly familiar with. So here is a long reply to a long comment! Thank you for taking the time to watch and then write all that out!

      @@amysrambles6748 heehee You better be going the the two towers extended edition, I am in the camp of two towers being the best of the trilogy ❤ helms deep forever! It's more of a Christmas desert but she loved it. If you do it correctly it looks like you absolutely torched the shit out of a cake, it should be BLACK. And then just taste like a nice boozy fruitcake. You also have to make something called burnt sugar which feels incredibly high stakes as it given off tons of smoke, makes you whisk molten sugar at high speed, will completely candy your pan, and will taste like the best burnt bits of a campfire marshmallow. But if Hollytwood didn't treat folk like this then we wouldn't this impression of american audiences! It also helps drive in the idea/belief that folk are different and should have to conform to what's 'normal' which... yeah, just no! Sorry, will try not go on a rant about this in comments, it just irks me.

    lol my jaw dropped when you Under The Whispering Door. but I actually agree with you. I liked the book, but I also think that a book about death and the afterlife will pretty easily hit people's emotions. It's kinda like how I cried like a baby watching The Good Place finale, but if you asked me what I thought of it, I'd say it was solidly just okay. I loved House in the Cerulean Sea tho! Truly a favorite for me personaly

    Yay!!! I’m so happy you did the tag! This warmed my heart just like the Christmas-Saures 🥰 Yaaaasss to Ali Hazelwood and the 🧀 romances! Lol and my favorite answers to deep fried are definitely “this pissed me off so much”!!!! How I killed Pluto sounds hilarious and great. I’m really happy you brought up the imaginary corpse again because it’s been on my TBR since your review last year, and you’ve reinspired me to try and find it!! You’re answers were amazing as usual and I saved this video for a few days to watch it when I needed it because I knew I’d love it 🥰 thanks for doing the tag Amy!!

I;m not sure if 'this pissed me off' is the kind of hurt you were intending for, but its where my vrain went 🤷😅

    • @amysrambles6748
      @amysrambles6748 2 роки тому

      I kind of liked the ending. The original ending that is. The extra chapter, epilogue bit that appears in the Waterstones version (I don't know if it's any other edition), I could live without. The more I think about it, the more it really works for me. She was arrogant enough to over look possibility of more siblings which was a mistake. And a man coming in and reaping the rewards of a woman's hard work - let's face it, frustrating but so realistic.

    I'm so proud of you for doing this tag - Skimbles was absolutely awesome and I know this would have been tough to assemble. Never apologise for taking time out for yourself, even if it is just to enjoy the rare moments of sunshine. Books with cats? I adore The Amazing Maurice and hid Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. Its YA, its a quick read and its thoroughly enjoyable. And if you really like it, its a great taster of the Discworld Universe (although completely standalone in and of itself.) If you do want to dabble in the Discworld, Greebo is by far the best cat in the series.
