    How does a person go about finding a dojo that will except English speakers. I am planning to spend three weeks in Osaka. I tried going on line however most the websites or Facebook pages are in Japanese and I haven’t received a response yet. Is that normal? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

      You don't even know the difference between "except" and "accept", so I'm not sure you could receive instruction in English either. Is there any language you can speak correctly?

    Excellent book--I think it should be REQUIRED READING in EVERY TRAINING HALL IN AMERICA The fact is, concepts of warrior virtue are seldom taught explicitly, and this ubiquitous oversight has caused much mischief, in my opinion. Sadly, out technophilia has left our traditions denuded of these details, and we have this excellent explicator to help us to understand the shreds that remain from the last major culture to maintain a clear doctrine, as their feudalism was protected until modern times.

    So my question is.. I practice traditional archery, but I shoot left handed. I would like to try kyudo but it doesn’t seem geared up for left handed shooting. Given that the yumi bows have the potential to be ambidextrous is it possible to train kyudo left handed?

    • @jessintokyo
      @jessintokyo 2 роки тому

      Not really. We use the bow with our left and left handed archers are actually better at shooting. There arehowever left handed bows for a different type of archery called shihanmato there is a video on my channel🍀

    The lopsided percentage of practitioners in Japan isn’t surprising. While originally a weapon popular on the battlefield and among the warrior monks of Japan, by the end of the Sengoku Jidai and especially by the Edo period the naganata had widely come to be seen as a woman’s weapon to defend the home. Considering this and that the views of the Edo period in terms of martial arts still inform how they’re seen in Japan today, it is no surprise that the art is dominated by women in Japan. Outside of Japan that view isn’t really known so like many things it simply comes down to ‘do we think the weapon is cool or not’?

      Sorry for the late reply. When you first start kyudo you don't need anything. Usually after the beginners course is completed you can buy a hakama and dougi set. Its about 7000 yen+ for new. I usually buy second hand because its much cheaper. Arrows, yugake, bow are lent to you by the dojo.

    Hi! I will see if I can buy this book. I Would appreciate your assistance if possible. What I am interested in, is instructional books showing judo techniques up close providing details, that is, with good illustrations/pictures. I would like to incorporate judo moves into my personal combatives training, so not just another judo book but something more fitting. If you are aware of such books please provide titles or a good dvd series from a teacher you respect or links to those. Either way, thank you so much for your time!
