Idaho Ski Lifts
Приєднався 1 сер 2021
Welcome to Idaho Ski Lifts, on this channel, I focus to provide videos of chairlift rides as well as other aspects of lifts. From starting to make videos at my home mountain Bogus Basin, I've now filmed lifts at 3 other Idaho resorts and I plan on getting to other states. So why not come along for a ride.
Sun Valley/ Challenger 6 (New 2023)
*Last video for the 24/25 season. *
Challenger 6 is a Doppelmayr D-Line high-speed 6. The lift serves the entirety of the Warm Springs area of Bald Mountain. The Warm Springs area provides a wide variety of blue and black trails. Interestingly, some of the trails on the Warm Springs side (skiers right) are only accessible by riding halfway up Challenger and unloading at the mid-station of the lift. The trails in this area are super long, and provide a steep pitch the whole way down, making for some leg burner runs. The Warm Springs trail goes from the summit of Bald Mountain all the way to the Warm Springs base, it's the main trail on the Warm Springs side.
Challenger 6 is a beast of a lift. It was one of 2 lifts installed at Sun Valley in summer 2023 as part of the Warm Springs Enhancement Project, the other lift being Flying Squirrel. Challenger replaced 2 lifts, Challenger and Greyhawk, which were both Yoppelmayr high-speed quads. Challenger was the base to summit detachable, running from the Warm Springs base area to the summit of Bald Mountain. Greyhawk ran from the Warm Springs Base, all the way to about halfway up Warm Springs, serving a few runs to skiers right, accessing terrain that Challenger didn’t serve. The new lift runs on the same alignment as old Challenger, however the bottom of the new lift starts where old Greyhawk began, and the old Challenger quad started closer to the Warm Springs Lodge, across the river. Challenger 6 uses all Doppelmayr parts, towers, sheaves, and the D-Line style terminals, the top being the drive terminal, which is a direct drive. The chairs are Doppelmayr 6-pack style chairs, with auto-locking safety bars. The lift has a mid-station where the old Greyhawk quad unloaded. The lift has a capacity of 2,600 pph, a vertical rise of 3,138 feet and a length of 8,711 feet. Challenger 6 is an incredible lift, with an incredibly smooth ride, it’ll be a guest pleasing base to summit lift for decades.

nice ride
@@LiftTech It's really an incredible lift. The D-Line style mid-station has got to be my favorite.
@idahoskilifts4242 it looks pretty good!
Nice⛷️🏂👍🙌
A 3000+ foot vertical in 8 minutes is hard to top
It's very impressive, for sure. Highest vertical chair in North America.
I love lifts with the mid station. you should try a 360 camera for the view sometime
Thanks for video 🙌👌👍😀🍀
It's too slow when almost every ski area is replacing these slow outdated lifts with new detachable high-speed lifts.
Originally, the Coach lift replacement was supposed to result in a detachable quad, however, the cost warranted too much for a detachable quad of this length. That's why the replacement upgraded capacity, not speed. A fixed-grip lift was also half the price of a detachable, so it made more sense to go fixed-grip.
@idahoskilifts4242 It's probably amazing how much $$$ SunValley spends on their detachable lifts.
Send old lift to us in Al Iraq we need
Thanks for nice video 🙏👍👌😀🍀🍀🍀🌲🌲🌲🇭🇷
You're welcome
Nice resort 😊
Earlier this month, the frame holding the bail on one of the EJ carriers snapped in two. It was on chair #40
Yikes, sure hope they were able to fix it!
👌👍😀⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️🍀🌲🌲🌲🇭🇷
Its interesting that they went with UNI G terminals rather than have the lift be a D-Line like Challenger.
@@TheLewistownTrainspotter8102 That interested me too. My guess is maybe they wanted the lift to match with it's neighbor lift down the canyon, Broadway Express.
Awesome 🏂🏂🏂🏂🙌🙌👍🌲🌲🌲🌲🍀🙏
3:59 Nice place ⛷️🙌👍💪😀🇭🇷🌲🌲🌲🍀🍀🙏🙏🙏🙏 And daily ticket 242 $???
@@lavina58 I love Sun Valley! As for the day ticket, it was around 250$.
For shure 🍀💞 You are born there@@idahoskilifts4242
I believe this is the first video of Frenchman's with the EJ chairs.
@DeltaChairlifts5 As far as I know, I think it is!
👍👌🙌💞⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️🙏🇭🇷 Thanks for awesome video. Regards from Croatia
this lift looks rad! if i ever come back to sun valley (i have the IKON pass) this would be my first set of runs!
@DeltaChairlifts5 The lift is SO NICE! It's an incredibly smooth ride, and the quietness from the direct drive at the top terminal is a nice touch.
The speed is about 915 fpm in this recording.
Definitely a suitable speed for the lift's length.
yooo, i forgot to mention that i suggest Checking out Schweitzer Idaho, it is SUPER fun!
LOL I think that thing needs some grease
@@vicioushanzo5740 Agreed. The bottom terminal was not that loud last season!
@ I can’t wait to go there in feb for some skiing and to see the new lifts
I wish bogus would stop installing lifts where it gets funneled into a tight cantered spot like this one and superior lift
good to see them at least investing in new equipment. now if only a new mountain face would open
@@vicioushanzo5740 They definently did some terrain grading at the bottom to accomodate the new bottom terminal. In terms of terrain expansion, I believe they will be doing the Clearcreek expansion in the next few years.
@ where would that be?
@vicioushanzo5740 On the backside of where the Deer Point Express unloads.
@@idahoskilifts4242 oh that would be awesome
It’s going at 706 fpm. Way too slow.
@@TwinSkiingLiftsRides I've skied Tamarack for years, and it has always been this slow. My guess is because of wind at the summit.
they might be in storm session still im not sure but it sounds like it is a bit windy up top!
@DeltaChairlifts5 It was on wind hold all that morning. It finally reopened around 1:00.
@@idahoskilifts4242 oh nice!
Was this recorded with a GoPro? Looks great!
@TwinSkiingLiftsRides Yes! I decided the GoPro is the better move since it's much less of a hassle then pulling my phone out of my pocket. It's the hero 10 black!
hearing you sniffle the whole video was not the vibe lol
@@Mishka_Adventures That's what happens when you're in a cold environment.
@@idahoskilifts4242 no way?! Its called blowing your noes lol. I live in idaho as well 🤣
Are you able to do a ski run off the new coach lift?
@lol0001 I can! I'll do it the next time I'm up there.
It’s time!
@@TwinSkiingLiftsRides 1st ever Skytrac I've ever ridden!
Sweet new lift
8 towers and 53 chairs. Also the blue/white colour scheme on the lower terminal is nice.
@julianhudson7811 The color scheme on both this lift and new Bitterroot look identical to Snowshoe's Powder Monkey quad, which is also a Skytrac.
Ty!
@@lol0001 You're welcome!
bitterroot is in a much better location
@vicioushanzo5740 I agree, much closer to the lodge and the runs off Morning Star.
The color scheme looks like Snowshoe’s Powder Monkey quad.

@@TwinSkiingLiftsRides Yessir, he came to Bogus!
That I did.
Nice I love the fair it's sooooooo much fun
It was actually built by Hall, and it's apparently considered a frankenlift!
@BowserHasFun It also started it's life at some amusement park in Florida. Then in 2018, it got reinstalled here!
Thanks for sharing!
@@LiftTech Thanks for the comment!
Wild story: a property owner sued Sun Valley because of excessive noise and light from this lift, AND the lower station is sitting yards away from her property and wants the terminal moved away from it. Funny thing is all the loud noise is all the way up top, more than a mile away. Also, she bought the house years ago knowing about the chairlift operation nearby and inevitable development in the coming years, so this lady came to the nuisance herself. There are so many other chairlifts at other resorts starting right next to houses, and this lift is no exception.
@TwinSkiingLiftsRides That's ridiculous, I can maybe understand the light, as those uni-g terminals are quite bright when lit up. However the noise complaint makes no sense, since it's the return, not the drive. The grips aren't even noisy as well. Silver Strike Express at Deer Valley is a good example.
@@idahoskilifts4242 It’s one thing to dim the terminal lights at night and turn the music down that’s playing at the bottom, but moving the terminal would be costly and more time consuming. On my Steamboat trip, I stayed at the Edgemont - right next to the Christie Peak Express and its slopes - and absolutely LOVED it. It was really convenient being able to pop my skis on right out back. That particular house serves the same purpose.
@TwinSkiingLiftsRides I highly doubt they'll move the terminal. Also I would love that convenience lol.
The bike setup on Massanutten’s Peak Express is very different: every other chair has bike racks on the back of the chair so that only the front wheel is actually on the rack. The racks hold up to two bikes. I like these bike trays because you can just load the whole bike onto the carrier instead of just the front wheel.
I agree, I like these bike trays more because they really give the lift a difference between winter and summer.
Nice
Hey when r u gonna do the next update
@lol0001 Haven't gotten a good chance to do one in awhile. However, I go back to Bogus on Friday, I could do one then if you'd like?
@@idahoskilifts4242 Thanks! Do you know when Bogus does finish the lift? Im going back this winter
@lol0001 Usually they have their opening day in early November. The construction crews are focusing on Coach more than Bitterroot at the moment, as they want to have Coach ready for opening day.
Estimated speed is 885 fpm.
awesome vid, do more over its progress.
Thanks, that's the plan :)
Nice day out there
Did u film Challenger 6???
Yes, you can find it on my channel.
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed!
bye bye coach and bitter root lifts
Excited for the new Coach Quad. But I'm really gonna miss Bitterroot, I grew up riding it.
Why is it running so slow?
Most lifts that run in the summer and winter tend to run slower in the summer. The reason being, it's easier for foot traffic to load and unload on foot since they don't have skis or snowboards. The other reason is to make unloading/loading bikes off the bike carriers easier.
Never a bad day skiing
Dang, skytrac make the ugliest lifts around
This lift is a Yan Double. The new Coach lift coming this summer will be a Skytrac.
@@idahoskilifts4242 I know. Both companies made ugly lifts. I like dopp and Poma lifts
@vicioushanzo5740 I'll admit, Skytrac terminals don't look as nice as Doppelmayr fixed-grip terminals, but the chairs on Skytrac lifts are a really cool design.
i think you would love Schweitzer their lifts are awesome!
I do eventually plan on going to Schweitzer. Definitely on my bucket list.
