Savage 93R17 .17HMR

I'm finally bringing out my Savage .17HMR rifle. I make a rant against Hornady and their jabs for jobs, and since this was recorded Hornady has rescinded their requirement. But that's a moot point since the communists in Washington have gone full dictator and removed individual liberties!!!

New Additions!!! The Toy Box Getting Full.
I'm having the exact same problem. I've had a BSA Sweet-17 2x7 power scope on my Savage 93R for 22 years. My first 2x7 had an issue with the rubberized coating. It got gooey and started scraping off after 11 years. I sent it back to BSA, and they sent me a new one under their lifetime warranty. 11 years later, the reticle broke loose, rendering the scope junk. So the 2x7 being no longer available, I ordered the 3x9, which came with dovetail (BB-gun) rings, and the tube is around 1" shorter than the 2x7. I'm pulling my hair out, trying to figure out why BSA would design a quality 3x9, heavy scope like they did, and ship it with dovetail rings. BSA scopes are relatively cheap but great quality. Too bad they only give a one year warranty on all their new scopes. Anyway, I'm looking to change out the Weaver block mounts with a full Picatinny rail so I can use my original 2x7 scope rings. I almost went with offset scope mounts, but I think that would really throw off my eye relief. I'm not crazy about how you got yours to fit. My 93R gets used. It's got some dings and wear, but still shoots 1/4" group at 100 yards. I have at least 2,000 rounds through it.. I bought my wife the 93RSS eight years ago and put a BSA 2X7 on it too, and she loves it!!.. Note:. The SS heavy barrel takes at least 100 rounds to break it in. It now also shoots 1/4" groups at 100 yards using Hornady .17HMR ballistic tip bullets. I've hit many groundhogs at or past 100 yards, and they literally explode. I've also taken many skunks, several coyotes, and raccoons. My best shot was on a small skunk at 144 yards, at night, traveling through tall grass, lit up with a spotlight. After it got my dog a couple of times, I had enough. I have a great way to get skunk out of a dog, too. Thanks for your video.
it's called .45 Colt ..... N O T .45 long Colt 🤮
Need a higher power scope when their moving around in the wond like that.
Maximum point blank range of the 17 hmr.
Excellent video, thank you.
One extra round is to off urself I’m guessing lol
I just bought the same exact gun today. It was love at first sight!!!!!!!!
The 7.62 x 51 is loaded to LOWER pressure than .308 Winchester! (For all the "experts" )
OMG!!! Somewhere in this there is a review lol 😂
Never use any kind of oil on leather that is made to hold a shape. Leather sheats, holsters and boots, will be too lose and sloppy over time. Use a type of paste, the best there is for this job is Renapur. I promise i know what i talk about, ask a leather worker who makes these type products. I make them too.And never use more heat than your own body temp 37celsius. Then you ruin the leather.A holster and belt like this is not meant too be soft and sloppy, you clearly dont know what you are doing and just because you have done it wrong for years, dont mean you are doing it right.
Check into VihtaVuori powder. They have an N105 powder recipe [found in their 100 Anniversary 2020 reloading guide, as well as in their 4th edition reloading manual] that spits the 250 grain Hornady XTP bullet between 971 to 1129 fps. Reduce the load a little and you can still bust 1000 fps easily. (Starting 14.1/Max 15.0). For some reason or another the load was listed on their website through out 2023, but was removed in 2024. Yet still remains in the printed material mentioned above.
I bought this rig from Cabelas about 15 years ago. While it is very well made by Triple K, it is the most impractical way to carry that I can ever imagine. You can't sit or squat down by the fire comfortably, or drive a vehicel while wearing this thing. It is strictly for standing at the bar in a saloon - or riding a horse - which we all do every day. I quickly learned that the most practical carry holster for a large revolver is either some type of cross draw with a "normal" (Bianchi makes verygood ones) gun belt - or, any type of belt carry holster that has a drop loop with a swivel at the hip joint for easy sitting or anything else in camp. Chest or side of body carry is good, too, if the gun is a short barrel model in the latter case. That's why the vast majority of original carry methods did not use this type of gunslinger rig. Most people were too practical - not tactical.
cannt beat a bisley grip, luv mine
u mean the 4 5/8 s barrel,got 1 my ol army rev
I just bought my Vaquero 45 LC stainless steel revolver, and I love it.
Very nice, but I would have to try a belt and holster on before I buy
I did the same with my mark II trigger (identical trigger as the 93R17). I couldn't get any ink pen spring to work but midway sells a spring set that has a large variety of sizes that worked perfectly
I know this is an old video but almost picked up one last week for $130 at Walmart but they couldn't get the glass case open
I didn't know Hornaday went woke. Thank you for the information.
Try using saddle soap it works great on leather
I was thinking about getting this SUV. How has it held up iver thr last 2 years? Any problems with it at all?
Maybe you've figured this out by now, but the jam nut is to be installed on the top of the handle/cam assembly, not the bottom. Look at the picture on the box, it's a dead giveaway. That's how I installed mine, and it hasn't moved since. I'm sure Lyman prolly told you the same thing! 😂
At 6:09 you can hear a ricochet
Most cheap scopes move diagonally inside you move right 2 clicks you move up or down 2 clicks
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. We must be around the same age as I joined the army in 1971 .
The belt and holsters have not been lined . I would think they would scratch the surface of the pistol .
My 93r17 came with a picatinny rail from savage, you should be able to get them
You prolly gotta zero for each load and corresponding turret. The bullet weight is part of it. The unaddressed part of this is hypervelocity, high velocity, standard, or subsonic. I am interested in this scope if it works for standard velocity or subsonic.
my buddy got his trigger set at one pound on his 17 hmr it's a Ruger i forget what model but it's slick it'll sneak up on you shooting squerreles at 100 yrsd after deer season he misfires quiet often forgetting that one pound pull but he had it done by a gun smith
i'm getting a dime size group at 100 yards with mine and the Hornady 17 HMR VMAX that's with no wind blowing
i have the same rifle but mine is ss and bull barrel floated , i have a 3x9x40 Sweet seventeen scope on mine also but a buddy and myself used an ink pen spring to lighten the trigger we cut to short the first time as it would fire when you closed the bolt but we regrouped and got it right and my trigger pull now is a sweet 2 1/2 pounds on the scale , great rifle and video , i call it my do all rifle
Im lost is hornady woke?
"Offset" Weaver rings will get you there.
I use brake cleaner to degrease.....
A good dummy round for dry firing is a plastic #4 drywall anchor (yellow in color). Extractor/ejector will function on it to.....
SAVAGE recommends something like 15 inch pounds torque on stock/action screws on their synthetic stocks.
ATF is also a good rust preventative (ever seen a rusty transmission?).
Rust prevention tip.... when you've got barreled action off stock spray/wipe down with brake cleaner then lightly coat with boiled linseed oil, hang to dry, coat again if wanted, repeat drying, then cover with paste wax/buff, then apply light coat of oil, assemble.
You talk to much and can’t even tell what you are reviewing here…
Those prices are cheap compared to what I’ve seen nowadays
The jam nut goes on the rod and jams from above
Have had mine for five years same gun Simmons 3 by 9 40 with mil dot and I know not going to say woke name ammo but it is great on coyotes
LOVE MINE
Have u ever reload a 45acp with the Federal 155m?
In Maryland I was told not to even lean a loaded gun on a vehicle or it would be considered discharging a weapon from a vehicle... I had empty guns in the bed backed up to my shooting table blasting targets legally on my property when someone in a neighboring development call the cops... after that I made a point to invite my buddies over once or twice a month just to shoot... Good days
I bought one of these as a package years ago, and I love it. It loves the cheap Winchester ammo, and it’s an absolute laser. It punches well above its weight with no recoil. Love these little guns. Cheers from Down Under.
I have the left handed model.
Itty bitty or itsy bitsy you be the judge.
Thanks for your time testing lpm to lp primers youve answered alot of questions ive had about the real significance between them. I also was taught that if a large rifle magnum primer was used in a standard rifle you had to reduce the powder charge by 10 percent. Have you ever heard of that? Thanks again for a great video !
I'm trying to mount this scope on the same rifle and It's kicking my ass. I've tried 2 different mounts and nothing is working
I ended up getting an EGW mount, and it worked... until my rifle fell over and damaged the scope.
@@Jerry-dk8se that sucks good thing these scopes are cheap
@@richardbranton2780 I'll send it back to BSA and see if their warranty works? 🤔
