Hi, I'm Richard, "The Other Beekeeper". Beekeeping is full of surprises. This channel is about beekeeping. It all started as a hobby to get little honey. Then there was the initial investment and the continued investment well beyond what was intended. As, the investments grew the honeybees multiplied. The apiary expanded and "honey" idea began to expand into making more bees, selling bees and much, much more. The other beekeeper in me intends to pass on what I've learned since 2019 actually working at beekeeping. Beekeeping is full of wonders and often full of pitfalls. So, buckle up and follow the other beekeeper into the future and the unknown journey of beekeeping.

Imagine, you could have a honey harvest in 2026! Whoa! 2026? What happened to 2025? Well, most often it takes two years for a new beehive to produce enough honey for the beekeeper to harvest honey. The modern beehive aka, the Langstroth beehive is the most popular and available beehive for beginners, hobbyist, side-liner and commercial beekeepers. Lighting a smoker is not that hard. Using fuel that is at hand, newspaper, pine needles and toilet paper rolls makes it easy. And, once you get the hang of it you'll be able to light your smoker and keep it lit all day. Timing the Sourwood honey flow differs from year to year. So, it's critical supers are installed just as the flow begins. Some years that may be later than others and if put on to early you may get a mix with other wildflowers. Put your supers on too late and you could miss the Sourwood flow. Finding Sourwood Trees and predicting the Sourwood honey flow can be quite challenging if you're not familiar with them. Sourwood, "Oxydendrum arboreum", Aka, Lily of the Valley Tree or Sorrel Tree is fairly common in parts of Western North Carolina. The Sourwood Honey Season begins in early July in Macon County, North Carolina.

No one likes to get stung by honeybees. Using cool smoke tells the bees their house is on fire. As a result the bees gouge themselves with honey, hopefully, forgetting to sting the beekeeper. After letting the bees do the work, I light my smoker and inspect the hive.The bees don't always add enough honey to the supers. In order to store them until the next flow honey must be removed. This was going to be a two part video. But, I on a later inspection that I don't think I filmed I did find my hive tool. I had dropped it while doing a previous inspection. #honeybees #honeybee #farmer

Thanks, I enjoy doing the videos. Bees are a challenge for sure. It's a great hobby and can be a great business. But, it takes a lot of work and learning to get started. As well as money.
