The best miter saws ever made, the Hitachi C10FS, C10FSB and C10FSH
Переглядів 44 тис.4 роки тому
I get asked all the time, “how can you tell the difference between the Japan and Chinese made hitachi miter saws” and “what’s the difference between the Gen 1 and 2” so I decided to make a video for those on the hunt for in what is in my opinion the greatest miter saw ever made 💯

DeWalt Flexvolt dust extractor build. The build video starts after the introduction. This is my first UA-cam video so leave any comments in the comment section, I’m still learning 🙏🏽
That charger box is pretty cool
Not sure what is "ghetto" about this. This is 100% functional, compact, portable, easily repairable. Yeah, ghetto is not a word that I'd use to describe this.
Great video, thanks for making It.
My brother gave me one of those when I was going to install a laminate floor years ago. He bought it at Costco in. I’ve owned it since 2005 or 2006. Maybe I should sale it?
That was a very well put together video . Thank You
Awesome content Thank you! 😁
Found my way to this video by reading reviews on Amazon about the Bora top. Someone wrote, "I returned it and am building the Carpenter 1 3 Ghetto Bench". I had to see what it was. Lots of good stuff in this video. The raising up of the handhold template to let the waste get out is gold! Thanks for taking the time to put this video out.
Bora now makes 36” height centipedes. Do you think that would be too tall?
No not at all, probably better for breaking sheet goods down, maybe a little high for tools but I would rock a 36” high one dude
@ thanks, I appreciate it
CarpenterOne3. Question for you. I have a nice Gen 2 and I want to mount it onto my portable saw stand. My DeWalt saw has 4 mounting holes that attach to the cradle that attaches to the stand. My Gen 2 Hitachi only has 2 mounting holes located in the front of it's base. It has no rear mounting holes. Therefore, the saw will rock and not work on my stand. I can find no stand made for Hitachi Gen 2 saws. Any ideas to aim me in a good direction? Thanks.... Jim in VA
That's a great design! Nice job! (and ditto on the "Queen" - never a fan either). I'm going to make one. I've been using that magnetic tape technique for years and it works flawlessly. The great thing is its so easy to calibrate, yet it always stays put and spot on. I currently have it on my homemade table saw fence that i made many years back , which was modeled on the biesemeyer design, with a few improvements - self-squaring and runs on nylon-clad ball bearings.
Loved your clip. Clearly……you know your way around tools………!
@Carpenter One3 : Great video! I wish you would post the video on UA-cam that you use for metal sawhorses. We have a couple Kreg Horses and I'd like to make a couple work tables of different sizes for that arrangement.
Hitachi miter saws are crap - they are all made in China and are horrible. They are inaccurate, flimsy, and dangerous.
I have a gen 2, made in Japan. and am having trouble finding the correct blade guard and arm that drives it. The replacements are different and do not fully detract the guard. Im stuck because Im being told these are the parts on hand. The guard is larger and the curve on the side is different where the bearing of the arm rides. Same with the arm. A little difference in size and shape. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks
Man, you gave out 20 or 30 little tips and tricks on this build. I have to watch again to write them down. You been doin this a long time. Thanks - stay safe. //ji
Great idea! I've been scouring UA-cam to find a light portable workstation. Thank you for posting this video.
My C10fsb just took a dive, replaced switch, not that, not sure where to get a wire schematic! 😭
I’m going to give it try👍Thanks!
Had 2 Japanese FSH saws and loved them. Now my makita 10” 36v is clapped out and I’m missing the old saws.
"Genius at work"....million dollar jig well done mate!...magic happens
Myself i have the C10FSB and i was wondering if i can buy the laser attachment as the C10FSB comes with ,as you mentioned they are identical saw.Great video.
I wanted to ask why my fsb10” just stopped working? What are some things that I can check. I’m installing new brushes today to see if it might be the issue, I’m not too confident that’s it. Any suggestions wouldn’t be appreciated because you never respond back you are useless
I need this part. C10FSH gear case. Have a video of where it cracked.
Just stumbled across this video this morning. Great design and you did a really nice job of showing/explaining each step in the build process. This would be great for my very small shop where space is at a premium. Thanks!
Great info! I have the C10fsb and it quite working all of a sudden then a week later it started up again then died? I’m waiting for brushes hoping that’s the cause? Any suggestions if the brushes don’t do it.. thanks
Heyo, thanks for all the great consolidated information! If you were so kind, would you be able to answer 1 question that I have looked high and low for.. On the 8-1/2 model, C8fb2, has base similar in color scheme to your gen 1- is it made in Japan? I would like to buy one and would be traveling quite far to pick it up, however on the motor sticker it does not say where it is made… is this implied or is there a china possibility? You are the man and cheers in advance!
Great video! I couldn't agree with you more about the quality of the C10FS - It was highly rated when i purchased it something like 20 years ago. I was looking for a quality saw that wasn't made in China and this was it. Along with my Delta Unisaw, my son and I installed 3/4" solid oak hardwood floors throughout our house. I bolted the saw to my workbench after I purchased it and it still sits there today - I use it all the time. I guess that I should sharpen or replace the blade but there are not issues with the cuts. I cost around $700 or so new - if you can get a well kept used model for less than around $400, you get a good saw. BTW, it still cuts 4x4s like butter.
Graham is the best. 😂
What am I not understanding. You said 30 in is 1 / 2 of a sheet. ? Is the sheet 5 ft wide ? FYI. Turn off the radio when making a video. It’s very annoying when trying to hear you.
Can you add the tracks to the bora table tops for 2x4? You ll do the same for both halfs of the table. Wonder if that would work.
Frank, I’m sitting here at dinner in NC with Katie Mobley and she wanted to introduce me to you and when I went to your channel I realized that I’ve watched all your videos! I’ve finally subscribed so it’s time to post again! Really did this workbench idea. Scott
Awesome, gonna get me a centipede and some Baltic birch, add a track for my festool track-saw guide and have a nice mft style assembly/cut table
can I just order one from you lol
I have a gen one C10FS. It was in great shape until the until the handle and right & left cover plastic shattered. I guess sunlight made it very brittle. I was hopiing to replace the parts but it seems everything is obsolete. Do you know of any after market parts makers ? is there any place that makes parts for this saw? I hate not being able to use this saw. ARe you interested in making me an offer for my saw for parts? I caution you, keep your saw out of sunlight.
Brother, you are incredible!!! Thanks for these!!
I've just found the centipedes and they look great for my small workshop. I need a assembly table for glue-ups but if I could store it when I don't need it, I saves me a lot of space. Would the centipedes also work fine on a concrete floor which isn't super 100% flat? The top needs to be dead flat and accurate for mu glue-ups... Your video is 3 years old. Are you still happy with the centipedes? Thanks for sharing!
Which makita and milwaukee routers is he using and why? Great video I'm looking for a router and wondering if M18 is way to go.
Hi, have you used the Hitachi c3607dra? It's the cordless 36v 7.5". It's this same design lineage- belt drive, vertical grip, 45 left/57 right, etc. It's made in Japan. They came out in 2019 I think. I got one for like $900 and I really like it. There's another model, the C3606dra, using a 6.5" blade, also made in Japan, but it's not available in the US.
My first miter saw was the Hitachi 8 1/4” compound sliding saw. It was too limited in that it only beveled one way and it couldn’t cut 3”+ thickness. I sold that saw to my future wife’s uncle and ended up buying two C10FS saws. My only beef with them is the ball detent which makes it fussy to do repeat miter cuts.
This is a great project~! I just picked up a 4'x6' Centipede and will definitely be making one of these. Thanks for sharing it~!
Sweet. If you're always in the same place, like your basement or garage, here's a way to make the Centipede flat even if your floor isn't ua-cam.com/video/rcjMbwNcx4U/v-deo.html
You mentioned being in San Diego and your local supplier. Would you mind sharing? I am also in San Deigo and always looking for good suppliers. Thanks!
I just picked up a C10FS. Its a beautiful saw, but I'm wondering if you have found any way to solve the sloppy miter detent issue. thanks!
I acquired a gen 1 for painting my uncles basement
I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.
Great idea. Smartest thing I’ve done is making my top like this. 100% more usable.
Can these saw cut a 4x4 with 1 pass? Or need to flip wood?
Got a 10" Hitachi C10FCE2 compound miter at Lowes, to replace my old one, which had a warped table. The new one sucks. The swiveling table has a 2 piece, circular shim underneath, which I assume to assist swivel and prevent wear to the cast aluminum base. Replaced the, terribly designed shims, and damn thing still sticks, no matter how clean I keep the track. Made in China? Thanks for sharing!
cool video. What's up with the playlist though? LOL
There is a lot of useful information in this video, but I’m getting seasick while watching 😢
