Video games are honestly pretty neat.
I've Never Played the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy
After taking a break from Hedgehogs and Plumbers, it was time to finally meet up with one of gaming's oldest and revered icons, Donkey Kong. Of course, he brought the whole family along with this time, for better or for worse. Who let these Kongs have an entire country to themselves anyway, is there a king? President? Don't think about it too hard. Just collect the bananas and clap at the funny monkeys.

Overshadowing a Franchise - Sonic Adventure 2 100% Retrospective
Переглядів 6 тис.7 місяців тому
For as much as I talk about how much I love Sonic on this channel it's been a while since I've actually talked about one of his games in depth huh? Perfect timing too, considering how much Shadow glazing has been going on over the last year, with a movie, new shipping game, and ENTIRE year dedicated to him... I wanted to see why this game is so revered for so long, and how it feels like the one...

I was bound to end up back in the Mushroom Kingdom eventually. We all end up crawling back to the House of Mario one way or another...except this time he's got stat points and equipment slots. For some reason. This video was a blast to make and a good way to experiment with doing the I've Never videos on only one game. I hope you all enjoy it! Well, after the Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule, the only logical place to go next was space. What could possibly go wrong when Samus is there? I'm sure the Metroids will be happy to see us. Thank you so much for watching! This was an ordeal to finish but I hope you all enjoy it! More videos sooner than this one, promise! You ever play a game that you weren't sure was even real, only to find out that it got destroyed by a mega-Corporation? Thanks Disney. Now Tumble is sad forever, all thanks to Mickey Mouse and Sora. Well I went through all of Mario's stomping grounds I guess it's time to hang out with Miyamoto's other child. Still not cheating on Sonic, Link isn't even his main Nintendo Counterpart. Thank you for watching! I'm sure someday I'll learn how to make a video under one hour! Sonic Adventure Retrospective - Confronting Nostalgia
Also i emailed Atlus many years ago why there hasnt been a rerelease of DH in english. Atlus NA at the time replied within a year, saying it was up to Atlus Japan. Basically, Atlus Japan felt it was a complete failure outside Japan so it will never happen
Thanks for making an introspective on this game. It still really bothers me how this game is still vastly not well known even though it has tons of charm and appeal.
Really hope we get to see you try the rest of the series!
@@GothGfGG I definitely want to make another Metroid video this year! Just gotta decide which part of the franchise first haha. Thank you for watching!
@3:16. Nintendo oughta be ashamed of themselves for not putting twilight princess on switch or windwaker for that matter. Smh. Would have been nice
Haven't even finished but this was a cool video, thankyou for doing it. You have a subscribe from me.
Thank you so so much for watching, it means so much! I hope you enjoy the others!
I really don't get why Jungle Climber is hated by that many people. I know that this isn't your own opinion, because you haven't played it, but I'd give it a try if I were you, despite what some other people say. I think it might be the best one out of the weirder DK games and I definitely had an amazing time with it personally.
@@kygigni yeah no real hate towards it or anything. Watching footage of it seemed interesting but in a sort of mobile game you’d play for 5 minutes way. I think it’d get annoying or boring after too long. But I’m definitely open to trying!
I've been going through the games that I missed out on recently. Seeing a game like this end up so obscure is a real shame. I've got to get to this and Napple Tale soon.
You did great with this video, glad I came across your channel, keep up the good work! Edit-You mean to tell me those AREN'T coconuts squawks grenades things with?...My whole childhood was a lie...
@@Kinshinobi thank you so so much for watching! I’m really proud of this video and how well it’s done so far, I’m glad others enjoyed it! But yeah I think we need to do an autopsy on Squawks because SOMETHING ain’t right in there
The Kongs are *not* put into DK Barrels after falling down a bottomless pit. If they fall down a pit, they simply appear on the world map, and if you had both Kongs, you still have both Kongs on the world map. DK Barrels are completely unaffected. The question of who scraped them out and revived them is still relevant though
The Thing motif being used... Interesting... it's a nice theme!
1:12:58 the Y button is your friend
I've read Archie Sonic, I know what he can do.
Stumbled upon your DKC retrospective and liked it so much that I had to check out your retrospective on one of my all time favorite franchises. Keep up the good work man!
Thank you so so much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed both videos! I'll certainly keep trying to make them as good as I can!
17:58 the irony of this statement with some recent events 😂
Apollo please you didn't have to hit me that hard man
Please make a video about country returns and tropical freeze 😭🙏🏼
I definitely want to! I might try next year, we'll see, I try to space out topics a bit so it's not too much of one thing all at once haha.
Just here a month late to say that healthcare simulator joke hits extra hard now 🤝
Yeah I wish I definitely could have predicted a better outcome and landing for that joke, same with the swanky kong one. Hope you're doing alright ❤
I recently binged this game over the course of a couple play sessions, I absolutely fell in love with it. I'd played Alundra beforehand, but didn't realise it was the same developer until I was a decent way through this, and it honestly makes sense now. It's such a weird, unique experience that speaks to my specific weird tastes. I really loved this video as well, I'm really glad there's at least one high quality video on youtube talking about what makes this game stand out, and isn't just recapping the plot lol. You did a great job here <3
I'm still really happy with how this video came out. Even if it's not like the most popular thing I've ever made, I'm happy with what I said and how I made it, and I'm glad others have resonated with it too! Thank you so much for watching!
You should do the classic kirby games next! I'd say there are five. The dreamland trilogy, adventure and superstar.
I'm not opposed! I haven't played the second and third dreamland games or adventure, but I'd have to figure out how I wanna split those up because even just 3 games is a lot to juggle for a video haha Thank you so much for watching!
@Guardison Thank YOU for making this amazing video! 😁
47:06 Try pressing the down button. You're welcome.
You know if someone else hadn't told me this prior to this I'd probably be having a small aneurysm finding out about squitter's shot movement lmao Thank you for watching and for the advice!
Are you going to review Sonic X Shadow? Either the ship or the game
I probably won't make a dedicated Sonic X Shadow game video as it would probably take up a lot of time for a game TONS of people already talked about super recently. As for the Ship? 11/10 I love when they touch quills.
I highly recommend you to do an I've Never Played video on Rayman and and on literally any Lucas arts game (they are pure gold) if you haven't played them yet
I've actually played a lot of the rayman series as a whole but I'd genuinely love to talk about the first three games again, I played them a ton as a kid.
Good lord those skits feel just like old school jontron.
Well as long as I don't morph into 2016 Jontron I'll take it
@@Guardison what happened to 2016 Jontron?
Anyone who thinks humans can’t be in Sonic is wrong/has an invalid opinion.
I see why people wouldn't want them in because like, yeah they definitely clash sometimes with these giant bobble headed anthro animals but like It limits the potential of what you can make in the stories so much. Plus I think it's just fun if they're done right.
@@GuardisonThey really don’t clash. Mario has humans and anthros so why can’t Sonic?
Alundra 3
I do think Sonic had a rough transition to 3D. Sonic 3D Blast sucks ass
To be fair about Kiddy's "secret" move...we all read the manuals back then! They had fun art and reading the manual was part of the experience of getting a new game, something you might do only a few times a year. These kinds of gotchas where the game itself doesn't tell you about how to play it weren't a big deal in that context.
Oh I know, manuals were always good about (usually) sneaking in the hidden stuff like that. It's less about it being like, a hidden ability like Donkey's in DKC1 and more about how it actually has mandatory use for some parts haha. Thank you for watching!
Waluigi being playable in Smash would be antithetical to his character. He's the character who wants the spotlight and recognition, but does not get it. Giving it to him is very not Waluigi
The more they spurn Waluigi from being in Smash the stronger he gets...he'll be the most OP character the day he's added...
I jusr found your videos a couple of weeks ago, and just wanted to say how much I love them. I cannot wait to see what you do next, but I do have one question for you if you're ok with answering it. What would be your advice to someone who wants to 100% this game.
@@BloodHawk1991 thank you so much for watching, I’m glad so many people have been enjoying the videos For 100%ing the game though, my biggest recommendation is take it slow. Dont try to finish it all as fast as you can, some of those levels are a complete pain and drove me crazy. And always remember that, more often than not, score is the most important thing for A Ranks.
I think that what makes people love DKC so much is that A. It does basically everything well, and B. It's very much an innovator without any of the hiccups that trendsetting usually brings. Doesn't help that the games are visually and musically gorgeous. DKC just never really deals with bloat of missteps. The platforming is trimmed down to its barest essentials while the level design and mechanics are always being expanded upon or well utilized enough that a good enough player can blast though with little issue, while a new player would still find good and fair challenge to train with. Likewise, it oftentimes just looks at mechanics in other platformers and just says "What if we don't do that?" like swimming in DKC TF for example. The devs at Retro basically created an entirely new swimming mechanic that as far as I know, has never existed in platformers before, and has basically never been used since. Not only that, they got it basically perfect on the first try. As an aside though, there is a major difference to how DK, Diddy, and Dixie play in the og trilogy. DK is much less nimble than Diddy and Dixie is slower than him as well. This isn't really important in casual play, but for people who've been playing for a while, there's tons of jumps and sections where DK or Dixie just aren't good choices, they're simply too slow and lack the precision necessary. Personally, playing DKC2 with mainly Dixie would feel like a slog to get though because Diddy just blasts through so many levels.
This video was amazing. You have so much potential!
Thank you so much for watching, I appreciate the support so much!
As a big fan of the DKC series, (if you can of course) PLEASE play both Returns games. Genuinely such a big step up from the SNES era. Also, yea 60$ for it is insane. In that case it's probably cheaper to just get them for Wii/Wii U.
As a big fan of the DKC series, GREAT video! Really the type of content that YT has been losing lately. Also (if you can of course) PLEASE play both Returns games. Genuinely such a big step up from the SNES era. Also, yea 60$ for it is insane. In that case it's probably cheaper to just get them for Wii/Wii U.
More like a big step down. Tropical Freeze is good, but Returns is super generic.
Finally, the skeleton appears
Super Mario RPG came out in the same 2 or 3 year span as so many other RPGs that are also still treasured classics. It was also late in the SNES lifespan so this type of off the wall collaboration made sense. I expected it to be fun but there's really so much that sets it apart, and it cant be said enough how instrumental this game was in defining the SMB cast of characters as we still know them today.
I never liked the Metroid games much. The movement just never felt good. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, however, is a masterpiece in its own right.
@@foreignuser_ I can understand that, it definitely felt a little sluggish until I got a handle on it, especially the first two. I’d love to give bloodstained a shot one of these days, maybe after I go through the Castlevania games!
@@Guardison likewise i do need to go back and give the metroid games a fair shake one of these days. cheers man thanks for the interesting videos. i'm a little older than you i think. born in the 80s so your perspective is fun to hear
If you don't like floating clown heads then definitely NEVER play Carnevil
@@battleonfan1 judging by the name alone I think I feel my childhood trauma creeping back up already lmao
Great video.Actually, ice rode is a weakness to desert palace boss, but it can be frustrating to use.
@@gdassspar6nar yeah I’ve been told the ice rod has some good uses overall, it just felt strange that it was in such an optional location in the first place (even though I walked right by it oops) Thank you so much for watching!
Imma hit everyone up with what up my nibbla from now on xD
Bro I didn't even wanna like type it out or anything without proof, I put that shit on screen STRAIGHT from the wiki
Honestly I love Zelda 2. I played it a couple months ago with no save states and it was not that bad. Took a few hours but was pretty easy other than a couple sections.
I don't blame anyone for clicking with it better than I did! I think it does a lot of things well and I'd absolutely love to see another take on the formula like I said. But for my tastes, the things I enjoy in a game, it really rubbed me the wrong way, especailly deeper into the game. Thank you for watching!
Oh, so I guess you never learned that, if you hold down before shooting the web platform, squitters angles it downwards? XD
Yeah...I've had it pointed out a few times, and I tried not to harp on it too much in the video because it wasn't like Squitter was a huge part of the game. It's honestly nice to know about, makes the idea of revisiting the game and those levels a lot less daunting haha Thank you so much for watching!
@@Guardison Np, it's an interesting take to watch someone comment about these games that don't know about them. I personally never played DKC 3 due to never finding it in my area.
Omfg i love this game and nobody i ever talk to knows this game. I'm officially a fan
I'm always so happy when I find literally anyone else that has ever heard of Dual Hearts. Thank you so much for watching!
Great vid once again like always. Its interesting seeing a perspective like yours thats so new as someone who grew up with these games as like a 3-7 year old. You're right in that these games are all pretty identical at their core and the differences come down to little nit picks. I'm glad you enjoyed 3 cause that game is pretty widely hated for all the things it tries, but personally its my second fav of the trilogy and not far behind dkc2 which is my fav game of all time. The sprites, music, controls, levels, everything, just oozes so much charm and nostalgia for me and I can replay them all the time. I'm personally not the biggest fan of returns and tropical freeze but the are definitely solid games you should check out, and you may prefer them like many others do. Your opinion on them as a newcomer would be interesting regardless. Good stuff and congrats on the growth since I first discovered you through the mario video. Random request/suggestion but I've never played dark souls/souls games? Would be fire :)
@@night_ts I wanna do the Dark Souls series but I wanna make it special eventually, so it’s definitely on the back of my mind somewhere :) But thank you so much for watching! I try to look at these games from their level and find the good in them, even if I disagree with some of the fundamental elements. I’m glad that comes across from my first time perspective, even if I do get a few things wrong still haha
I don’t know if I should tell you this, but Mario 1 has a continue option. If you hold A and Start when you get a game over and the game goes back to the title screen, you can continue from the start of the world you got a game over in.
Yeah...I had to go through a few months of therapy after being told that the last time... It still hurts though....
I hope you do a video on Yoshi's island if you've never played that.
