Is Dragon Quest 9 Worth Playing Solo?
Переглядів 40 тис.Рік тому
I bought DQ9 on the day of release in 2009. However, without anyone else to play with, I felt I was missing out on this multiplayer-focused game, so I stopped playing after five hours. 15 years later, I give the game another whirl, and my opinions of it transform DQ9 DLC: (www.almarsguides.com/retro/walkthroughs/NDS/Games/DragonQuestIXSentinelsoftheStarrySkies/ActionReplay/) scroll down until y...

All 17 Super Mario Odyssey Kingdoms Ranked

I made a few mistakes in this one, including calling the Snow Kingdom the Ice Kingdom, and I'm pretty sure at one point I call the Glydon a Flygon (which is a Pokemon). Woops! Enjoy the list.

Dragon Quest VIII review - 8 Reasons It's the Greatest PS2 JRPG

Traditional. Simple. Elegant. Dragon Quest VIII, like most DQ games, is not too interested with innovation or complex mechanics, instead it tries to perfect the well-loved systems of the turn-based JRPGs of yore, filled with oodles of charm and adventure. This ever gets a remake will 100 percent be buying
I played this for years solo didn’t even know it was supposed to/ could be played together still one of my favorite games off all time
I played this game almost entirely single player (did about four grottos with my friend before he moved schools) and loved it. Nothing in the main story needs any multiplayer elements to be fully enjoyed.
It really needs a remake. Firstly, because it's the only one in the mainline to never have been remade, secondly because blowing up the old DS graphics to HD on an emulator still leaves them looking crummy - those graphics were made for DS screen resolution and size and nothing else - and thirdly, what with today's internet connectivity in games giving people a shot at the multiplayer shouldn't be any trouble anymore.
Why does every game have to be played multiplayer or online? What happened to playing a game alone offline and actually achieving something by ones self without the influence of others?
0:28 that aint the goat Toriyama dawg 😭🙏
u can play multi with melon ds multi and parsec :)
Its hard to hate any level honestly cause you know the music will at least be good
Pickman reminded me of Peckham also. Yangus is your typical pie and mash geezer he was the best part of the game!
1989 Dragon Warrior Rocks the World!!!!

Best DQ Game on earth ;) PS2 wins
I agree this is the best JPG I’ve beaten over 113 JPG on the PS2 and I’ve beaten over 80 other RPG‘s action RPG‘s JPG‘s PS two Xbox PC and all console RPG‘s this one trumps all of them everything from the music quality cinematics voiceovers variety diversity Gameplay battle systems, dungeon quality, world, map, quality, and any other thing you can think of many games, etc. this game is truly a masterpiece. Some other amazing games are Nino Kuni II, LOZ/OOTMM/MQ/TWP/all of them, Star ocean series, grandia series, and so many others lol
Beaten without strategy guides BTW 😉
This is one of my favourite games of all time. Always played it solo
I personally love DQ9, I played it solo and am now playing it years later with my wife. It's the same experience just made more enjoyable sharing with people you want to spend time with. I honestly wish they would do something similar but with an online function so you can play with friends like BG3.
Cheats required, but I say it is.
Metroid Prime: Am I a joke to you?
A fellow Marble Zone enjoyer, I see.

starlight zone second from the bottom? lava reef ranked low, oh HELL naw sandopolis #2, carnival night zone #1, what the actual hell
I didn’t even figure out I could get teammates until like the 3rd boss. The master of nu’un made me grind like crazy, I was a level 30 minstrel when I beat him, this is like my actual first dragon quest game, I see why people like the series so much
watching the clips on the screen had me flashing back through my childhood as i played this game for hours on end. years later now that im older its funny to think i has no clue a Vocation was, or how to even say coup de grace 😂 it has me wanting to replay the game
This game was multiplayer? Lol I only played it as a single player game. Didn’t even know it had the option
Yes!
I ONLY played single player and i remember parts of the story with a smile. I think the main story is much more interesting than DQXI.
I have such a love-hate relationship with DQ9. I think its a great game for first-timers, but there is just never any magic replaying it for me
Found a PS2 on CL for $40 and just went right to eBay to get another copy. Oh it's been so long and I have kids now and we are playing it together with the guide. So much fun!!!
I dont really like JRPgs anld this has to be one of the greatest RPGs ever made in my mind. Brilliant game from the very start to the very finish.
@0:25 sooo about that
@1:27 65 hours? buddy im almost 200 hours deep and haven't beaten dark castle yet.
and keep in mind im playing a MODDED version which makes the game SO much easier and grind free and i STILL haven't hit cap yet.
like every gold golem gives me 1k and every metal slime gives 2k exp and i STILL am grinding.
i just beat dark bird island and i STILL am grinding.
so how are you beating it in 65 hours? are you a speed runner or something?
This is the game I went the extra mile and bought a second copy of aswell as a 2nd NDS just so I can always start a new game without losing the downloadable content. Then I discovered that the content is still available on 3rd party servers :D
If you want to play the game in 2024 aka before any remake comes out: There's an exploit where you can connect your DS to a specific IP to get all mystery gifts in the Pokemon games. It works the same for DQIX and will give you all the wi-fi exclusive missions that aren't available anymore.
STAR LIGHT ZONE AT #26? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Legitimately believe this to be a troll ranking 😂
105 Marks Hills
I bought this game back in ~2012 to keep me busy after a surgery that left me unable to walk for about a week. I enjoyed it immensely and wasn't even aware that it was geared towards multi-player. The single-player experience lived up to some of my favorite JRPGs I had played before, like Golden Sun 1&2, Chrono Trigger and Grandia 2. It's a really well-made game.
I never once felt like I needed friends for this game, and it was one of my all time favorite games as a kid. I’m watching a review for the first time, because I’m playing through it again and wanted to see what others thought of the game. (The party system is basically the same as dragon warrior 3, so I never even noticed they were “silent” I just imagined what kind of personality they would have)
Same here, I never got bothered by the "silent team" either and I think it's mostly for this one reason : Yourself Your reason to help people and go save the world, how some fight or enemies treat you, etc... is mainly because YOU are a Celestrian, not the others. (Yes it's not the first time the protagonist is special but I feel like there is a difference between being chosen and being a literal angel.)
I've never heard anyone describe DQ9 as even the multiplayer one, let alone "The one that's only good with multiplayer". The idea that a feature of it existing meant it had a disservice done to it is quite silly.
I'm super late to this conversation - I just want to throw my hat in the ring, as most people here haven't experienced multiplayer! I grew up with DQ9 alongside my brothers. I have 3 older brothers, and all 3 had DQ9. So, growing up, we used to play with each other. And, honestly speaking, I enjoy the solo party aspect for the main story game entirely more than playing multiplayer in during the story. I had help from my brothers as a kid because I didn't understand the mechanics fully, and their characters were stronger than mine, so if I was REALLY struggling with a boss, I'd get them to come help me; swap out some party members, they'd come join, help me beat the boss, and I move on with the story. But this severely underhanded my party later on gameplay-wise. All my characters are mismatched levels now because of this despite being FAR postgame (my highest (the hero) being 99, my lowest being 47). Now, I'm playing solo on my second cartridge, and I've also hooked my friend into the game to play solo on her emulator. And the experience of doing it entirely by yourself is just as rewarding. Yes, you lose the story aspect within the party itself, but there's enough outside of it that you don't need it. The hero has the entire story and all the interactions, and if you have a wild imagination you can make stuff up in your head about your party members. The story is beautiful and one of my favourite RPG stories I've ever played; and I've never thought it was better in multiplayer than solo. As for grottoes, though, I think I do enjoy the challenge of grottoes in multiplayer more than I do with my party members. There's a security in planning out everything with your party and knowing all their moves back-to-front because you see them so often, yes, and it's still worth doing grottoes solo. But my absolute favourite thing ever was to fight high-level grottoes with my brothers. Nothing beat that comradery. Otherwise, it's still super, super fun to play it solo, and even 10yrs after I got my first copy, I play it to this day. And now that my friend has now been roped into it, I get the joys of watching her fall in love with my childhood game :)
I felt 9 was better then 5 and 7 but not even close to 11 or 8
You missed to give some Sugiyama love, but yes I agree with everything you said. I played it when it came out and I was in love, and man that after credits section, I couldn’t believe it (it was also my first Dragon Quest)
not only is sonic cd being forgotten WHERE IS 3D BLAST
27 and 26 hill top and star light my guy what were you thinking and also 23 lava reef💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
OK, then I have an opinion. I hate your family. 😊
☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I got the game in 2018 and played it solo. I actually kinda wish I could do another playthrough, except it only has one save file.
The game deserves a remake with the ability to select your class from the start Minstrel is great but I want my character to punch effectively or spear or hammer from the start.
I honestly didn't know that it was such a phenomena in other parts of the world. Europe and Britain always escapr my mind, its honestly so cool to have the same experience as soemone ont he other side of the world!!
#27 - Hill Top Zone Ohh that's gonna offend some people #26 - Starlight Zone Oh it's on now
