Crown will get a new percussion staff in 2026. So many switches in Crown percussion staffs that I think the issue might be with the other staff not being able to work with anyone

I think the issue is that anybody with any interest in DCI can reliably predict the top corps. It seems like DCI is TERRIFIED of allowing judges to stir the pot

I did some ranking breakdowns via sub captions from beginning of season to end based on last score. I combine visual proficiency and analysis. I combine brass and music analysis. (GE/VISPA/CG/BRMA/PRC) Scouts and BDB saw the greatest rank shits overall with +4. For example. The scouts improved 8 placements for visual from last year and 8 in brass/ma. That’s huge! The Guardians suffered the most falling 8+ ranks on average. For example, the guardians fell six spots in ge from last year, 10 spots from visual, 6 spots from cg, 9 spots in brass/ma and 11 spots in percussion.

i was also thinking about how scv and cavies weren’t in the top 5 when they won percussion. i haven’t seen anyone else mention it until now!

Biggest question, what happened to the cavaliers? They were the blue devils of the early 2000s

Bluecoats color guard book is less.difficult than boston, crown, SCV or stars but it's extremely musical and tightly executed

From watching the corps on FloMarching I would have had Pacific Crest and Crossmen in Finals and Cavies and Scouts 13th and 14th respectively. Pacific Crest had the best design and a more demanding show. Crossmen was a mess for most of the season, but it finally clicked in Indy. Scouts show lacked top 12 demand and design, Cavies were burdened by a terrible design for the 3rd yr in an row and they need to clean house.

Mike (Perc judge) didn’t lock himself in at all, no judge does. Judges can edit their scores throughout all of the performances so if he needed to increase Vanguard’s score from the 6th slot, he could have. He didn’t.

A lot of sturm and drang for the actual change of simply eliminating one or two spots. As I see it, as the corps dwindle the 12 becomes a simple cut-off, and even if one day half the corps make finals, it's not much different than half making semis or half making the top 25, The point where some corps which no longer seem worthy of being a top 12 finalist are making it, that's the point where changes should be made, and probably not elimination of 1 or 2 spots which won't solve the underlying issue. As it is, it seems like about the top 16 are arguably worthy of the 12th spot, and in recent years this race became as if not more interesting than the race for first, or a medal. That yearly intrigue would be excised by a top 10 or 11, as corps in that range would no longer be realistically competing for a finalist spot. Not to mention, it would upend a tradition of 12 spots used throughout DCI history. Regardless of whether one like the number 12- I do, as it sets the activity apart, we do it that was because we do it that way- changing it would alter of the cornerstones of how it's always been done... for little return- that's just my opinion. If I'm not mistaken the new All Age corps competed in finals on the morning and day, on finals day, and had their own retreat at about 3pm or so. It's as indoor stadium, so this worked weather-wise. And gave everyone the chance to see shows they would not otherwise see, so it sounds like they found a perfect fit to do something like what you suggested.

I’d LIKE to see BD finish in 5th place overall with Crown going to 4th. To make it perfect, Scouts over Cavies! I won’t get the former, but possibly the latter. I’m not too hyped for Boston’s guard going over Bloo. That’s just a period. I don’t agree that Boston should win. Bloo’d guard is so intertwined with each of its other captions while Boston’s guard can be separated. They have a harder rifle book… but a weaker Flag book… For Bloo, I have excellence over vocabulary. For Boston’s excellence, I have 0.2 under its vocabulary. That’s my sub-caption integrity showing! 😬

Looks like you've split the difference between Prelims and Semis to give us a good idea for the Caption awards, and the further breakdown about what corps needed to score to win them was very illuminating, thanks.. Shout out to the 1971 original Combine, who as a whole made finals tonight for the first time since 1979. Dan Potter posted that they will be looking to recreate the cover of the Combine West 1971 album, to mark the occasion. Vanguard always made it, except last year, as did Blue Stars since 2008 and Cavies since 1979, but for many years the Troopers were not in, the year they did make it 2009 Madison didn't make it (15th), and for the last number of years Madison wasn't in. Madison has a shot at 11th or even 10th, and with all the usual competition for 12th. BTW Scouts drums were placing like 18th just a week or so ago, so last night's drum score is actually a serious improvement. Last year, some in the staff and members thought they would be where they are now, and would up very disappointed in 16th. Imagine how good it feels for the 2023 members now to see that even though they didn't make it, they laid the foundation for a solid top 12 finish, not just squeaking in, within a point of 10th place, in 2024. Finally, shout out to something which really got buried in the middle of all of this, the Crossmen reunion last night. It was incredible to hear the 1992 show again, and having the whole thing open with the drum feature and then the horns coming in on that unison note, as their opening statement: inspiring. As an age out, I know that those Earth years are so revered there- as is Russian Christmas music. It's the one downside of having this incredible year of Blue Devils not winning again, Phantom Regiment cracking the top 4, Troopers back and improving (which did not happen in 2010), Madison back and therefore the COMBINE back, SCV with a chance at drums, Boston with a shot at drums, Cavies having an off year, and Bluecoats having one of those activity-changing years and probably winning, and all the other stories I might be forgetting.

When are you uploading the Finals prediction video?

There should be a live venue fan vote that is weighted with GE. One caption shouldn’t be a deciding factor and then GE is only relative to the performance itself not theses judges preferences. I have been saying for years they need a fan vote weighted into one or all of the categories/captions! PLEASE FIX THIS DCI!!! Enough already! The shows that have won the last 5 years have not always been the best or best executed shows!!!😮

Love the show! Your analysis helped me prepare myself for BK not making finals. I’d love if you could speak more about the shows themselves and go beyond the score differentials. Boston and Bluecoats did better than BD and the others… why? Scouts rose higher than the others to make the cut… why? Execution better? Higher degree of difficulty? You think the judges like something? Drum line is cleaner? Would love to get a better sense of what you’re seeing that drives your objective and subjective thoughts.

Why DCI doesn't have their own official UA-cam channel like this is beyond me. Thank you for your hard work

So disappointed with dci this year, it seems tue judges been organized that whatever the devils have an update n upgrade they just adding 0.xx point while other band in playing save jump to almost 2 points. As a global viewer it makes some surprise while dci is the compass of drum corps world. But this year?!!

I wasn't sure about this channel after the preseason predictions. Thought you might have been a hack but after watching your videos, I'm coming around to you being objectively realistic even though you keep underestimating my favorite corps.

It would be cool if we ever got to see an Open Class group make finals, but even if the Spartans had an incredible two-night run I think the highest they get is 16th place. Also, I think the fight for 12th now comes down to Scouts vs BK, and who has the best run for prelims and semis.
