Only contest harder than 6A state would be BOA SA. depending on the year you have all the 6As who made state plus the 5As who can hang with the 6As (cp, rouse, Leander, Wakeland)
A.C. Jones band member here. you are absolutely correct. last time we went to state was 45 years ago, in 1979. The amount of excitement we all had to hear us getting called for 5th place was.. thrilling.
The only time my school has ever been to state was in 98 and we made it to area for the first time in a while this year. Didn’t make finals though because modern judges just don’t like a whole lot of marching anymore.
@liamvega7286 Congratulations to you and your band. I was not surprised when we found out you advanced. Your show was very good this year. -Calallen saxophone soloist
6:31 front ensemble member from la grange here!! we were all thrilled to make state, as it is the first time in our school’s history to make it to state in marching band. congratulations to all of the bands advancing to state and i look forward to seeing all of your shows!!! 💜💛
2:52 yeah as somebody who competed at UIL 5a area in 2023 I wish that they had this type of common sense last year we had to perform in 45° rainy weather as texan children- it was pretty much the equivalent and performing a foot of snow for us! My banddidn’t make state that year because it started raining during our performance and since most of our marches were younger They had quite a hard time during finals
In Area A Dumas high school made Area Finals for the first time in school history with 6th place. It was a crazy day of weather and we didn’t get to perform at finals unfortunately.
I’ve followed UiL State Marching Band contest since it first began. I’ve judged a high percentage of these bands. I wish you would have said what is going on in 2-A. But when are on next, you’ll be too busy with all of the other contests going on. Can you let us know how we can watch State on our computers and iPads?
Unfortunately due to the weather at area I Cypress woods was demoted to second as UIL classified the preliminary round as finals (I'm from woods not happy but congrats to bridgeland anyways)
cy wasnt due to weather, it was because bridgeland had 2 votes in 1st vs 1 vote in first for woods. (along the lines of that). both bands did amazing, good job to both!!
I’m 3A and we can’t advance because of Whitesboro and Holiday. 😭 We also didn’t do good at area because our band director doesn’t know how to do modern band shows. He is very good at actual marching band but modern judges don’t like a lot of marching anymore.😢 Our band would absolutely destroy all of the competition in the 90’s 💀
Danny, I can’t help but notice that you haven’t mentioned any of the military style bands around the state. Their state contest was just last week, and some of the pieces of music they are playing are pretty difficult. I personally don’t find that style appealing, but some places have a lot of “TRADITION” that is represented by those kiddos.
I’m a dad from pleasant grove. Two years ago, our kiddos were one point away from state. Last year we were the odd school out of a three way tie for the last two spots that went to state. I feel for ya, kid. Keep your chin up and know y’all can try again next year. It wasn’t that way when i went to school.
@natedawg906 😂 definitely. That practice was the most fun and improvement I made in a single practice ever. I'm glad the district administration allowed us to stay. We also had a cookout with parents and that was also super super fun before area. We're eager to go to state and represent well. We will definitely shock some people is all I'm saying.
my band got cooked we were consistently getting top spots in our comps and the jduges loved us then area rolls by, the 3 music judges, 1 gave us 6th, 1 gave us 10th(I think is relatively low) 1 gave us 17th💀

Grand nats 3rd most competitive
State 6A 2nd most competitive
BOA San Antonio super regionals most competitive
Depending on the year & lineup at BOA-SA, I would agree with you.
@@GeneralEffectMediaalso, pretty sure it’s gonna be CP, Rouse, 60% chance of Leander, 40% chance of wake land for 3rd, and lone star for 5th

I’m from Krum in 4a area B and we tied with Robinson for that 5th state spot and we lost 🥲

CP ✅
Rouse ✅

Leander (off by 1)
