𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲: Brain Therapy: Neurofeedback & DBR In The Treatment Of Trauma
𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Sebern Fisher
𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: www.eeglearn.com/btn
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻: Live 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT, September 8, 2023 (also recorded)
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: If you are eager to learn how Deep Brain Reorienting and Neurofeedback combined can provide transformative healing, then you will benefit from this webinar. Though neurofeedback is discussed there is no requirement to be trained in neurofeedback to enroll.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Sebern Fisher, MA, LMH, BCN, has been integrating neurofeedback and psychotherapy into the treatment of those with developmental trauma for the last twenty years. She was the clinical director of a residential treatment facility for severely disturbed adolescents for 17 years. During her tenure she introduced attachment theory and dialectical behavior therapy to the milieu. She is presently in private practice where she provides neurofeedback, psychotherapy and consultation. She trains nationally and internationally.

As clinicians we are increasingly faced with serious mental illness. Most of this dysfunction has its roots in neglect, parental absence, and/or abuse in early childhood. Recent research also suggests the primacy of broken or unavailable attachment in the development of the most dreaded condition of all, Borderline Personality Disorder. This presentation will offer an overview of the reactive brainstem, the area of the brain most disrupted. We will look at “Borderline Personality” as an affect regulation problem that we can address with neurofeedback. And finally, we will conduct a brief overview of a relatively new therapeutic approach that targets the brainstem, Deep Brain Reorienting, developed by Frank Corrigan, MD.

Very interesting to catch up with your work, Ruth. I have now done some podcasts as well. Several about Kundalini awakening. Also about my deck of Oracle Cards, Sacred Journey Medicine Cards. I have been fortunate to have some wonderful interactions with Deck Reviewers. Still working with Don. Jayne and I celebrate 26 years together 5/25. Good to see you and hear your voice.

I'm not sure myself. I think it implicitly trains the brain. Have you read The Body Keeps the Score? I remember VanderKolk has a chapter about it. I looked into it a couple years ago, but it was really expensive. And, or course, my issues with self-worth won't let me spend so much money on myself

I can't breathe through the grief. I simply cannot. The grief and the rage consume every fiber of me. I am raped. On the inside. On a soul level; I am raped. I'm desperate to die. I'm in anguished agony. I've been discarded like garbage. Betrayed and abandoned. My soul is raped. Life is hell for me. I want to die. I'm in hell with no escape. Been suicidal almost all my life. I'm submerged in darkness and drowning in grief and rage. My only wish, my only prayer, is to die. I miss him with all my soul and with every fiber of my being. I have debilitating paralyzing daily panic attacks. He used me while he needed me and then he discarded me like garbage. And I'm learning the most alchemical magical lessons because of it... Like: - Nope, he didn't really actually truly discard me. THAT'S A LIE! The devil is a fucking liar!! What he actually did is set me free. Only fear and the enemy/the devil, would have me see it as being "discarded". HE! SET! ME! FREE! HALLELUJAH! - No such thing as good or bad. Both are just judgements. AND EVERYTHING IS A GIFT! EVERY THING!! Look for the gold. Find the gold. - I manifested his leaving. In two parts. Part one: my lower-self (fearful-self) was always scared that I wasn't good enough for him. Part two: my higher-self (God-Self) knew/knows I deserve, and am worthy of, SO MUCH MORE than the breadcrumbs he offered me. I AM WORTHY OF A FULL FEAST. I AM READY FOR MY TWIN-FLAME (RE)UNION. I am worthy and deserving. I am royalty: daughter of the most high; king of kings! - Smother all of it with love. The PTSD. The grief. The unbearable darkness. I rebuke it by smothering all of it: with love! I have DIVINIE AUTHORITY over all of it! I am royalty. I am an alchemist. This is MY transmutation/purification process. - His coming was a gift. His leaving is a gift. All a gift. - Spend intimate deliberate intentional daily time with Jesus. A candle/light with a framed photo of him, at night... Chanting/repeating: * I love you * Thank you * I invite you * I need you * I welcome you * How can I serve you? * Let me serve you * Let me serve your name * Let me serve your holy kingdom - Our thoughts/feelings create reality! - Fuck manifesting *THINGS*. Manifest peace/love. And watch the miracles unfold! - In every memory, in every moment, look for, and find: the love and the gift. Those are the only things that are actually really real. - Self love is EVERYTHING!

10 years ago a therapist said my brain was too active for therapy so she did neurofeedback with me. I did it for months and I honestly do not know if it helped or not. Unfortunately the therapist did not explain to me the why or how of it. And gave me little instruction. So in my thinking I am playing a video game and I am trying to move this object with my brain. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Being a non trusting person (DID) I need someone to explain with details why I am doing something. Looking at the brain scan it is very true that that my brain seems to come alive when there is a emergency happening yet otherwise I have trouble thinking or remembering what I did yesterday in a relaxed setting. I have gotten better through doing right brain activities.(I have no problem being the first one out on the dance floor in front of people) Yet still will have a panic attack going grocery shopping.

I’m very interested in seeking this treatment out but also, I can’t help to think about what would happen if this were offered to kids in every single school in the country? How would our world change if we could help treat the traumas that kids suffer and how could that change the world of the future by ending the cycle of trauma? I can’t help but to think that this could change the entire world for the better.

I have a question. Is Neuro therapy effective for bipolar disorder? I have a 29 y/o granddaughter that suffers with this to the point that she is unable to manage her life. (Makes poor decisions, can't hold down a job, etc). She used to be very intelligent and dynamic, but has really decline; even graduated college with a double degree. She needs help desperately. I am a little familiar with the great results of neurofeedback only because another granddaughter was treated with it for her ADHD, and has had amazing results!! I would love to have more information re: bipolar disease and this treatment. Can you give some insight into my search? I would be be very appreciative!

Hi JoAnne, Thanks for writing. Clinicians that we work with report positive results with many conditions, including bipolar. As you would likely agree, getting into the details about treatment and therapy in a particular case is beyond the scope of a text thread like this. If you are interested to know more about how clinical neurofeedback could help your granddaughter, I would recommend reaching out to an EEGer clinician who may be able to offer some guidance. -Lars

I've heard Seaburn say many times neurofeedback needs to go with therapy. I believe her. I'd like to know more about how or why they need to go together and where I can find a therapist to go with a neurofeedback provider.

Hi Sam, There is substantial research evidence about the importance of the 'therapeutic alliance' (which you can find on google scholar), but a simpler way of thinking about it is the way that Sebern Fisher describes it elsewhere (in another video on this channel) that relationships are a vital foundation of human health, and that what a 'good-enough' therapist does is to provide the way for us to develop a capacity for healthy, fulfilling relationships. The brain-training (neurofeedback) guides the nervous system of the person training into lower arousal, less reactivity, less fear, more calm and more balance, but the relationship with the therapist is a pivotal part of the person being able to integrate this awareness, these new perspectives, into their outlook. Hope that helps. -Lars

10 years ago a therapist said my brain was to active for therapy so she did neurofeedback with me.

It’s worrisome that therapists wouldn’t include culture if they are considered “trauma informed”

Last night, after four and a half weeks, I have finally completed reading the book, The Body Keeps The Score. As a 43-year-old female adult of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse from both of my parents, I finally felt as if I was understood, as to what I was feeling, more so, as to what I was experiencing from the inside out. Not only did this book give me some clarity and insight, putting my experience into words, it is also giving me some hope as to the sort of treatment, I can access in order to help heal myself and stop this loop of negative feedback, I have been experiencing for the last 40 years. The bottom line is it has truly giving me some hope, now that I have found this mind-blowing treatment of Neurofeedback. Over the years talk therapy has not been as helpful as I would have wanted it to be, medication has not been as helpful and at this point, as a single mother of three kids, I'm truly willing to try anything to stop this vicious cycle.
