AMA District 11 Weight Lift Challenge - Rogue Eagles - Day 1
Переглядів 2765 років тому
All five team members gathered to document our first attempts at lifting some payload with the Mini Apprentice. It will most likely take more weight than this to win the challenge, but it's a start! Our score so far is 76-3/4 oz - 27-1/8 oz. = 49-5/8 oz. The rules allow an extra 1/2 oz. for having a Junior on the team, so our final score is 50-1/8 oz.
U-2 RC Model Maiden Flight Disaster
Переглядів 478 тис.5 років тому
This is the first-flight on a scratch-built U-2 RC model with an electric ducted fan for power. The flight started well, but ended badly. Caution, strong language. The builder says he will build another!

How to Make STOL Wingtips from Balsa Wood
Переглядів 5525 років тому
Carving and sanding a set of STOL wingtips for a Super Flyin' King. I sell these as "rough-cut." It's up to the builder to fit them nicely to the end of their wing panels. Many thanks to Sharon Diaz for contributing a time-lapse camera to BTE. I love my new toy! This is my first effort at making a time-lapse how-to vid. Actual time was about two hours.
Todd Long's Kit-Bashed Great Planes F-15 Canard - Maiden Flight

Footage from the Sanderson Field RC Flyers Winter Build Challenge Maiden Flight Palooza, June 2, 2018. You will hear at the end some comments about the balance point. Far better to be on the nose-heavy side, especially with a radical re-design like this. Well done Todd, congrats!

BTE Venture 60 Demo Flight by Bruce Tharpe
Переглядів 8 тис.8 років тому
The designer puts his Venture 60 through the paces in this late afternoon flight. The V60 is not a 3D model, it's more of an old-school aerobatic sport model. Notice how smooth and easy it flies through maneuvers and how slow it lands. That's what you can do with a light-weight, big-wing design like the V60. The kit is available from Bruce Tharpe Engineering (BTE) in Rogue River, OR.
John Gaines' B-25 Maiden Flight
Переглядів 1,7 тис.8 років тому
This is a 1/8-scale B-25 with 101" wingspan designed by Nick Ziroli. This beautiful model was built and flown by John Gaines of Rogue River, Oregon. It weighs 35 pounds and is powered by two PTE 36 gas engines. This maiden flight took place at Agate Skyways, home of the Medford Rogue Eagles R/C Club, on Friday the 13th, May 2016. John was still fighting to get it trimmed when one of the engines...
Reed Emulator from CalAire - In Use at VRCS Fly-In, Medford, Oregon
Переглядів 1,2 тис.9 років тому
The reed emulator shown in this video was developed by Cal Orr to operate like an old-style transmitter from the '50s or '60s. Instead of joysticks, reed transmitters use switches - elevator on the left and rudder on the right (it also has a switch for throttle). The emulator plugs into a modern transmitter so it can be used like a buddy box. In this video, a group of RC pilots try out the emul...
Cliff Sands' Big Bipe "Le Goose" on Floats
Переглядів 7799 років тому
This is a modified Bud Nosen Gere Sport biplane with a Zenoah GT-80 gas engine. Weight is around 35 pounds. Flight video taken at the 2015 Danny Stanton Memorial Float Fly at Agate Lake near Medford, Oregon. As you will see, it took a few splash-and-goes for Cliff to get used to the extra weight and drag of the floats.

Warbirds Fly-In 2012, Medford OR -Civilian Planes
What happened? It was hard to make out the cause.
Actually, that's a good question. Not sure if the wing fold was a design flaw or if it was poorly built (or both!). Paul (RIP) told me he was holding some "up" elevator on the stick the whole time. When he finally had a chance to reach for the trim lever, he naturally had to release the stick. That's why it nosed over. He reached back for the stick and quickly applied some up elevator which overloaded the wings.
The sense of satisfaction building from scratch is very hard to beat…and whilst it flew, it looked beautiful
Beautifull plane !!! I was just thinking wich real plane would be cool to make a rc model and I can't think of something cooler than a u2
Fantastic! The crashes are the best part of this hobby!
Thats what happens when you wear white socks and sandals !
2:52 love that laugh as everyone acknowledges how goofy and difficult this type of radio is to operate and not just totally crash. Very cool buddy boxed reed emulation unit. would love to try one of these and see if I could have flown successfully in this reed era. thanks for posting
beautiful airplanes!
Give that plane a fail
They didn’t name the U2 The Dragon Lady for nothing. Hard to tame, that’s for sure. RC airplanes are like owning a car chasing dog. You don’t want to get too attached to them.
When getting into larger scale models it is worthwhile (and easy) to do a static load test. This model appears to be missing the main spar.
HISTORY REAL 😂😂😂
I am tempted now that you have an electric conversion for the kit. Just need to figure out what goes so this can come in 🙂
Thanks for your video so much Rick
You picked a fine time to leave me loose wing...
Outstanding, I need to build one.
Who had the controller, Gary Powers?
exemplary🙂
Damn, the old wing spar failure routine!
More fibre glass my ass! Flying in open toed sandals is the problem. I ain't never seen no pikters of Humph. Bogart or Kirk Douglas flyin in opn toed sandals. Lovely looking plane though fella. I fly in wellies, I get similar results!
Looks heavy and overpowered.
*Those who fear the Light, are kept in the dark.* "Let the Sunshine In."
I think a Soviet missle hit it.
One of the best planes I have ever owned, with such a light wing loading it would do just about anything you wanted.
Absolutely beautiful model! Looks like it flew really well before the wing let loose.
Francis Gary Powers: yup, pretty much. Although in his defense it's pretty hard to stay aloft after being SAM'd.
Bwhahahahaha 🤣🤣
Ouch... And this is why I don't fly balsa wood planes. It takes the fun out of flying when you can't take any risks because a single crash is complete destruction.
An RC Cuban missile, anyone see it.
Was Gary Powers flying it?
should have used gorilla glue lol.
This plane wasn't on Biden"s list of 16 things that Putin wasn't allowed to sabotage.
Well... at least he got it up for a short while
Unfortunate. Sounded nice in the air too. Must be that long duct.
Ouch!
Now he knows why they were nicknamed the "Dragon Lady".
Just like the real U-2: Not meant to make any dramatic/violent moves.
Try a smaller build next time, that way you can work out the bugs without loosing the bank! Also try to pick a model that was meant to be flown bank and yank, because he wasn't flying the fragile U2 carefully enough!😲😤😝💯
Wing's not supposed to fall off.
Battery disconnected....YUP....😬😳
Shot down by model S-75 Dvina missile?
Well Paul, what do you think now?
The Russians shot it down.
hahahahaha, oh that's a goodie. Had a few disasters similar.
Richard? What did you do?
Sorry for your loss! It appears to have received a momentary "down" command...Do you mind sharing what brand of radio you were using? I'm asking because I've lost 3 airplanes using the same transmitter (with 3 different receivers) to a similar anomaly, and I know I'm not the only guy in the club that's had the problem with that brand of transmitter. I won't name the brand, but they useD to make eXtremely good stuff. Their most recent radio equipment I refuse to fly.
So sad
Heartbreaking !!
Too much of Wing for That much of Thrust - The best of us hv all been here, lookg fwd to his Next Project & Maiden
I see the RH wing made it down just fine....
Bird strike!
