A Dean ML case should fit that guitar.
@@abbagil I did not even think about that. Very cool. Will check it out.
I am planning to buy one.
Cool demo Vinny...I have two RnRR's and trying to figure out what my next one will be (just put up my Revenge demo on my channel!) A Thunders is definitely in the running.
Why was the Floyd more popular? Edward Van Halen. Full stop. BUT - the Kahler's are better. Also - the big peghead isn't a bug, it's a feature.
I think the Kahler didn't take off in the 80's due to the quality (lack of) the early models. I have a 1984 Gibson Flying V from the Designer Series with a factory installed Kahler tremolo and locking nut. You really can't use the tremolo at all since it will put all the strings out of tune. This after I replaced the springs, etc.. It just does not work the way it should. Beyond that, I'm sure they have made improvements to the design over the years and I would take a chance on a newer model. I too like V's with Floyds. Dean have some quality instruments. I worked with them years ago on some promotional guitars and they were super-high quality Dean USA Explorer-type (Dean Z's). Fantastic instruments!
Kahler's were always better quality than Floyds. People just didn't know how to set them up properly. I did some work with Gary Kahler in the 80's on that, and the instructions they sent out with each unit improved performance overall.
@@chrispile3878 I had the cam and springs on mine replaced and a full setup a couple years ago by an excellent luthier. It plays great, I just still can't use the trem wihout it going out of tune. I'd appreciate any tips you could offer.
@@leftygtrplr6184 Are the nut slots low enough? Or is it a Floyd style locknut (often the problem)? A behind the nut locknut often solves the problem. Are the roller saddles rotating properly? If the 2 screws that secure the cam in the frame are too tight it can bind. I found that sometimes the ball end of the string unwraps during use - especially when pulling the bar up. I soldered the string wraps before stringing it up. Those are places to start. Good luck!
@@chrispile3878 It does have a normal nut and a lock behind the nut. That to me is possibly the problem. Maybe that doesn't lock as well as it should. Anyway, I will try your suggestions; thanks I appreciate it!
@@leftygtrplr6184 Let me know if you get it ironed out. I've been at the bench for over 45 years - Fender & Gibson authorized repair guy for a big store in the 80's and 90's. I'm the local whammy specialist.
Kahler has been my favorite since 83
@@MrNumber1gator I now see why. It’s a great design.
Sick V ! Love the red with white Binding . Also check out Coffin Case , they should have one to fit .
Ok cool. Yes will check that out. Would be cool for this V.
What a great video to have pop up on my algorithm!
@@PeterXChhanX wow. Thank you for the kind words and stopping in to watch. Much appreciated.
Sick guitar
@@None888. Thank you.
I've had a Mod84 for a couple of years now and it's the best sounding amp I've ever plugged into. The stock reverb is outstanding! I run mine through a Fryette Power Station to attenuate it down to bedroom levels. The attenuator allows you to get much better overdriven tones using compressors, boosts, and overdrive pedals. Love the video and your playing is great!
How do you like it now? I’ve always wanted one of those. I’m 54 now haha But still would like to own one
@@d.a.6608 well I’ll be 50 soon. So never to old for a V. I am really impressed with the fit and finish. It’s a really good guitar. For the money. I think it’s a great deal.
Good choice. Gibsons are crap since they started to pay their lawyers better than their luthiers.
I agree, they are hit and miss these days.
Everyone tries to compare these single coils to a Stratocaster and that’s not at all what the original intent was supposed to be. When you flip the switch it kills one coil and adds 1500 turns to the other coil. It’s supposed to be a single coil sound but no one said it was supposed to sound like a Stratocaster. As for what it is supposed to do - it does well! It gives you a true single coil sound probably more in the area of a P90.
Love that color! Reminds me of a red velvet cake....now I'm hungry for red velvet cake.....
@@POLARIS2 lol
The guitar looks great and all. The company though aaahhh, I dunno. Not much faith in them after the Dimebag thing.
Beautiful guitar!!!! 😍 😊 I like that it has a Kahler whammy instead of a Floyd Rose!!! I'm still glad that Dean is still around!!!
I am really digging the Kahler. It’s a nice design.
Awesome looking V and rocking the beard too great to see you back
Welcome back to UA-cam , that is a beautiful guitar. Sounds awesome. Another great Vinny the Axe video🎸

Another Great video review. Bad ass looking guitar ,I love the color. It looks longer than Gibson scale that was a big surprise.
Thanks my brother. Yeah the body and headstock is an optical illusion. It looks long. Well, it is I guess. lol. 😂
Nice V. During the first few seconds of this video I thought a bearded dude had hijacked your channel
@@BeantownToBigD lmao.
I always like a glossy finish however..... that red is cool in matte finish. I was enjoying the intro tune and was playing along on the bass. Rock'n'Roll!!!!
@@LoopGoop22 thank you so much. Have a great weekend
Rockin' the V and rockin' new beard to boot.
Nice guitar!!!
@@trailcamdailey thank you.
Cool axe, Vinny! I’m usually not into “V’s”, but this one is different enough to catch my attention. Sounds awesome.. like the opening jam. Cool beard
@@curtisturney3467 Thank you sir. It is an eye catching V for sure.
I don't blame you. I've been switching to low and medium output PAF pickups in my guitars lately. With modern amps and pedals, I don't really see the need for hot pickups anymore. And I absolutely do not sweat pickup spacing.
I have the big and the smal one. Try the Rodenberg Gas 808 ng or the sl-od infront.
That cocked wah tone of the JB that made me stay away from it…. I had them briefly on my Ibanez, and I took it off immediately….
Great video! I have been really loving Alnico 2 humbuckers in my strat style guitars lately. An interesting note on the Duncan Holdsworth Pickup, the current one, as sold from the custom shop, the 17k version is not what Allan ever used. His pickups were basically a Duncan 59 but both coils had screws, no slug coil and a DC resistance of around 8k-ish. David Phillips @RACKDOCTOR from L.A. Sound Design has great info on this, he has an 8.5k Duncan Holdsworth pickup in a guitar he demos on his channel. No one seems to know why they sell a 17k version, that i have seen.
@@DanCareaga that’s very interesting info. I could not understand why the AH SD is so hot. I thought that weird. But I figured what do I know. lol. Awesome information. Thank you for stopping in and watching and sharing. Have a great week.
Vinny, appreciate the video. I had my lutheir install a duncan distortion with my HSS. Probably already a poor fit but i too had distortion at low volumes and it sounded nothing like the clean tone on the Duncan website. I was insistent eith my luthier (to the point i think i rubbed him the wrong way), but you mentioning what sounds like similar symptoms still has me questioning things. You mentioned the wiring diagram was backwards - are you saying the JB wiring diagram on the duncan website is backwards? I just dropped off the 78' today to the luthier and sending the Duncan Distortion back to amazon. If the 78' sounds like trash, then my guess will be out of phase
@@Sparksnorthern yes the pickup is out of phase. So reversing the wiring on the SD will put it in phase with the fender pickups.
Glad to hear this. Have a sterling Cutlass ct50+ which is HSS. Started with the duncan distortion but the difference in output is so extreme that i couldn't get it dialed in right. Swapping for a 78 - literally dropped off at the luthier this afternoon - and it seems I made the right choice.
Im thinking about switching out the duncan distortions in my Jackson SL2Q. We just dont play that much metal in the bar gigs, and Im not really a fan of them anyway. Too dark sounding and subpar articulation. My Jackson is a mahogany body, maple neck through with ebony fretboard and thin quilted maple cap, Winterstorm is the color. 25.5 scale, floyd 1000, 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way toggle. I love the guitar, but hate the factory duncans.
Simple Answer: NO
No, you made a damn good choice...
setting please!
These amps really hate overdrive or distortion pedals but LOVE boosters. Try a clean boost in front of it like the TC Electronic Spark and it sounds even better !
Did you sell the Magnatone?
@@Blaha_haha I actually traded it for some gear
I sold mine kind of miss it haha
How would this compare with the Knaggs? If you had to pick one?
@@timothybean9706 rock and roll relics is built well and plays great. I was not a fan of the Mojotone pickups I would say that I prefer the knaggs more if I had to choose. Knaggs is a brand new style finish and the RnR is a relic so you have that difference as well. Can’t go wrong with either. RnR is a harder resale than the Knaggs in my opinion. So I would say I love the knaggs and would pick this over the RnR hands down.
@@VinnyTheAxe that’s great to know! I’m saving up for the “ultimate” p-90 guitar and was going between a RNRR Starfighter, Knaggs Kenai, Novo Serus P2, or Gibson CS 54 LP Custom. Right now, seems the main battle is between the Knaggs and Gibson!
@@timothybean9706 I think I know what you’re going for. I would stay focused on a Gibson Lp special or Jr. or the Knaggs. I would say the custom shop special or jr are great. If you get a good one. Bang for buck the Knaggs Kenai will hit the mark, unless you really need the Gibson logo on the head stock.
Love the tone you are getting great looking guitar
I have been getting into Magnatones and I love it! Thank you for the wonderful video!!! ❤
@@fatseaturtle thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.
Who is here after seeing Aaron Rash’s video???
sounding great! subbed
I’m sold on this one, was looking for a 100w, but would be too much for home practice and recording. This sounds amazing 👍
@@metalworx4765 you won’t be sorry. One of the best amps , if not the best amp I ever purchased.
That sounds glorious...
Just bought a 2024 US Paul’s in Black Gold. But I was hunting for one. I went from “one of each” AKA a tele, a strat, a Les Paul. A LP Jr, a Ric, a Hollowbody, a Jazzmaster to buying a Core Limited PRS 594 in 2019 and selling everything in search of more PRS. I really think Paul is in his “Golden Era” like Gibson was in the late 50s. Now I have three US PRS - a SC594, a Silver Sky and a Paul’s. Along with an HSS Strat from HS and an Electric XII, I’m all set.
Awesome collection to be proud of for sure.
I played one today in a guitar shop a shit that is a beast I'm going to get one soon
Does jublee have 70w cab as well ??
@@Gauravsinghrf the 2x12 ‘s are 140 watts and the 1x12 is 70 watts
Just bought one in vintage cherry, but for other Knaggs fans, there is one EXACTLY like this one on Sweetwater's used gear site.
@@mcheustis how do you like it ?
@@VinnyTheAxe It's due Thursday or Friday. But, I do love my Knaggs Kenai-J with a single P90, so I expect the SSC -J to be just as good.
I've NEVER got along with the JB. So many of my favorite guitar tones are recorded with it (Jake E Lee, Dave Mustaine .etc), in fact It sounds great on a record but I've just never liked it. It's too hot for PAF style/classic tones and it has all these weird EQ Spikes at around 1-2.5k that just make it unpleasent for metal tones imo. Not to mention that flubby low end that makes palm mutes sound kinda lifeless. Again a lot of people have made great sounding tones on it, I just don't like the way it sounds when I plug into an amp and play. It's never worked for me. The Dimarzio Illuminator is a much better all around pickup imo, but it's all down to taste. How do you like the way it feels when you strike a chord and palm mute. That's where the JB fails me. Yeah it sounds good in a mix but I just don't like it when I'm playing by myself. The thing i really hate about the JB is people act like it's the end all be all of pickups, just buy one of those and throw it in there and forget about it. Screw that, try as many pickups as you can until you find the one that makes you want to pick up your guitar and play.
@@loydthabartender5794I totally agree. Palm muting with the Jb just sounds weird. It’s not tight percussively. It’s really hard to explain. I think its fault is that it has too much power. I wonder what a low wind version of it would sound like? Yeah so many pickups out there, and a lot of good ones to try for sure.
Yes definitely!!!🤘
