We are amateur bicycle mechanics and amateur vloggers who enjoy fixing up old bicycles. we repair bicycles, keeping them on the road and out of landfills. We appreciate input on our bicycles or on how we are repairing them. We are learning as we go. We are not authorities on bicycle repair.
Do you have a bike that I can film and upload to my UA-cam Channel? I'd love to film your bike if it's a unique, cool or a vintage bike. If you live outside of that area I live in you could film your bike and send it to me and I will put it on my UA-cam channel.
I could film you talking about your bike or I could just film the bike as I talk about your bike.
The condition of said bike does not matter. I might even help you fix said bike if you like

Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
#vintageschwinn #DYI #community #BikeKitchen Tonight we began to put the 1973 Schwinn Varsity Sport back together. We removed the head tube and bottom bracket cups to paint the frame. Tonight we put the cups back on and put in the bottom bracket and attached the large chain ring and pie plate chain guard.
1973 Schwinn Varsity Sport - clear coat of paint
Переглядів 7592 роки тому
#vintage #clearcoat #painting #krylon Today we finally finished repainting the frame on the 1973 Schwinn Varsity Sport. We thought the yellow paint created a surface that was soft or easily marred so we put on a clear topcoat. We chose the yellow color to match the color of the bike when it was donated since we were originally going to touch up the paint. Instead, we painted the whole frame. Th...
Vintage Peugeot with Cottered Crank: Bottom Bracket Dilemma
Переглядів 1 тис.2 роки тому
#communitybikekitchen #vintagePeugeot We encountered our first challenge in the 1970's Peugeot restoration. We attempted to remove the cotter pins using a couple of methods suggested on UA-cam videos with no success. Even after one of the cotter pins was drilled out, the bottom bracket spindle was seized in the crank arms. Eventually, we cut off the spindle and removed the cup-and-cone bottom b...
New subber here ! cheers from Nova Scotia , Canada !!
That looks to be a Maverick not a Klein.I must assume that Klein bought the right to use this design from Paul Turner before 2002. I may be wrong but have no recollection of Klein using that design yet the tubes are a little different with a lack of bend on the seat tube and that headset looks like a Klein for sure. Paul Turner vowed to stop making the ' maverick " design in 2001. I say save it until you really find out its' history. cheers
axle bend maybe
I'm not a purist or whatever so imho it's probably good for who it's for and what their likes are. Admittedly it's a little different... But, I bet it's tough as hell and fast for well paved suburban streets. Idgaf about what people say about it, 😂 I'd ride the fuck out of it personally!😅🎉
Factory 5 speed? Doesn’t say cruiser 5 on the guard and not atom rear brake
Ijenem van ès remek gèp a Garry Fisher bicò kissè nehèz terepem is 😊😊
I have ‘74s. One is a 5 speed and one is a 10 speed. Very powerful and smooth riding bikes.
Sounds like the freewheel might be haunted
😢I need to replace the front v-brake noodle on my wife's Sirius elite bike. Will any noodle on Amazon work?
no
How to buy this
The Bike is in Eureka, CA. It is my neighbor 's bike.
How much
He is asking $350. But, if you want, I can give you his number? He has not road it much. He is 85 years old. It is now not an 82 like it said in veido. It is on Craigslist Humboldt.
How much$
i rode a gary fisher kaitai for a couple years before it got stolen, the GF mountain bike is pretty high end, the frame are excellent and mine came with a rock shox fork, i see the bikes in the vid both have lower end derailleurs altus and acera x, but the one has the rock shox so parts are mixed between pretty good and basic
If I end up not liking the bike I just bought, I think I’m gonna try one of these. Why am I now just finding this?
I'm not kidding.. this is the most wonderful bike review ever.. I smiled.. I chuckled.. I understood..
Thanks for your rewiew. I'm sad to say Salsa doesn't make the Journeyman anymore.
Can’t give you a thumbs up if you don’t even know how to use the app! kHz is kilohertz. Don’t waste our time with ridiculous reviews.
cool, my wife has got the red and silver wahoo and I just took it to the shop today for upgrades, found some old XT front and rear derailleurs, deore LX v-brake arm, and it will be getting hollowtech bb, 9 speed cassette (12-36), sram chain, crankset shimano 44-32-22 (before was 42-32-22), alivio shifters and brake levers, it also has a disc brake in the front..I think wife will be happy. turns out the hubs were never maintained and she run for 10 years on rusty balls lol, it needed new cones for the hubs and balls too
I’m restoring one that I just recently picked up at a bicycle swap meet. Poor thing looked like it had been sitting inside a garage for twenty years…..it’s all original!
How is the restoration going?
@@egoebb ….amazingly well, all original drivetrain, brakes and cockpit. Finally dialed in the wheels (trued) and shifting has improved since I have lubed anything that moves. Chain finally loosened up but I may just go ahead and put a gold ZTTO chain on it to be safe. Should have it back on the road this weekend. Thank you.
I have the exact same bike.
I was under the impression You were going to show steps of breaking down the front hub,,and reassembly. Even watching You truing the wheel would of been good.
how to get the rusty quill stem bolt out??
w bag?
soryr but the music was way too loud. cant watch the video
You could just turn it down. Music is only at the start and the end.
Gary prefers road bikes anyway to a mountainbike.
i have that exact bike
What size tyres? Looks great!
Trek 970 had 'em.
It appears impressive seems like there was a lot of travel on the front suspension the fact that the back was tight I believe it's good you could just adjust it to your liking at least it's not a pogo stick it also had some nice features the trigger shifters the rear derailleur the derailleur hanger as well and the back frame of the bike was aluminum not steel that's higher said some decent tread and the price back in that day was quite reasonable I watched it twice I missed the pedals but I imagine there alright as well I would definitely consider I used one depending upon how it rode
Hola como saves que es de ese año, hello how did you didn't know the year. I have one but the year I don't know
How do I remove a Schired of badge screw with out striping the thread if you can please help I’d appreciate it
I bought a Salsa Journeyer Apex 1 a couple of months ago. Love it.
I like the “drive” and “non-drive” papers to note specs and keep parts separate. Nothing more frustrating than looking at a pile of mixed bike parts and trying to remember where each part goes.
There is alot of quality built into every aspect of this bike. I may change the rear cog to a 26 tooth, which will require a slightly longer belt. The brakes are better than my Tektro disc brakes on my other bike, that was a surprise. The brakes are like tge first time you get in a car with power brakes, really a plus. Welding and paint make me think " No wonder the bike industry went to Asia from the U.S. and Europe.
Is it possible to get a parts list for this project? I've got a 4500 that I've been planning to tune up it's just a matter of finding the right parts. Thank you!
What size and number of bearings does the BB need? I need to replace mine
What color did you get? The Hudson blue?
Yes, that is Hudson Blue, and it is a cool bike.
I just picked up the same bike used from my bike shop, they had it as a rental.. and I agree! This bike is excellent! I got mine for $500.00! What a steal. I am very happy with it. I upgraded the chain ring and cranks to 1X 9 GRX, with Dura Ace BB. The BB is rock solid, stiff, and rides amazing. nice little review
I would love to see a photo of your bike. I would love it if you would make a short video of your bike and let me post it on this channel.
@@VirtualBikeKitchen good idea. perhaps. thanks for encouragment
First two letters of the serial gives you month and year of manufacture.
“For as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to own a Salsa”.
Sell it to me
I don't have it anymore. I will give you the green Peugeot.😀
There are Genesis and Genesister. The Genesis were men's bikes and Genesister were made for women. Different sizes, angles, etc. That's what I was told when I purchased one of these bikes new in 2001, I still have it too. = )
Send me a photo of it.
I just got that silver and red yahoo but mine had discs and a few upgrades. I absolutely love it
What removal tool did you use? I’ve got a 70’s Varsity and need to remove the flywheel to service the bearings. My LBS doesn’t have the right socket and I can’t find a definite answer online. Thanks!
I just get this bike yesterday, same spec same color :)
Hi, I just get this bike. Is it worth of some money?
yes it worth money just need to find that person
What size bolts to secure the bag on the top tube?
Same as whater bottle bolts😀
Super nice
What rear rack is that? Thanks in advance.
Bontrager rack and Bontrager Trunk Bag
It would nice if you included that you used a 24 spline cassette remover tool for French freewheels used on Schwinn bikes from the 60's, 70's and 80's (i.e. Normandy, Maillard, Sachs, Peugeot, etc).
👏👏👏 belíssimo quadro de bicicleta. O estilo antigo nunca fica velho.
