Pifco Spinair Senior Oscillating Desk Fans

A lovely pair of circa 1970’s Pifco Spinair 12” desk fans in good working order. I forgot to mention in the video that the blue one needed fully rewiring and I also replaced the motor with another one from an identical green 12” Pifco Spinair that wasn’t in as good cosmetic condition. The blue one would’ve no doubt been destined for the bin otherwise!

Collecting an Awesome Pair of Blue Ice Fans
I have two of these too, both with original boxes but one is a newer one I’ve never seen before, I’ll get a video up soon
Gave me an idea how to fix mine, thanks!
Film ur blue ice 12”
Where did you get the other
@@Hinarifansandmore13 It was listed on Gumtree not far from me
Wow! Both of them are looking great together.
Oscilação de ventilador
I have the desk one now and I use on a daily basis and very powerful fan then the plastic cheap ones that push nothing out
@@england-football730 they are great fans, some of the last of the well built fans before they all went super plasticky
@@fanaticalfansnowadays there bad with the fans just break so easily
You can see how yellow the fan was prior to cleaning.
Do you know how take the back piece off?? Mine broken recently and it won’t spin 🥲 it only spins if I give it a push and then it spins normally. I bumped into it so I think it could be a wire issue or something fixable
Hey @@alanaoriley, you should be able to take the back off by unscrewing the oscillation knob on the top (can be tricky as it may try and swivel the fan in the process) and undo the screw on the back of the motor cover and I think that’s it!
Thanks for your video. I couldnt take apart the top assembly and u showed me how. Thanks!!
I have an Xpeliar Taurus T8 desk fan 🪭 😅hi
Ho
My poppa used to have an Identical fan. When I was about 5 I was just tall enough to see over their old sheds window and that is when I saw the fan, They gave it to me but unforchanetly my nanna cut the cord for safety, I am sure it worked fine. Still on the lookout for one, My one was branded Technicair.
@@Wattmaster2401 Nice, hopefully another Technicair may appear on eBay sometime as I’m sure there are a few still around
@@fanaticalfans Yeah, I live in New Zealand, So I don't use Ebay however Trademe or Facebook Marketplace are my best options. I haven't seen one for about 5 years now so they have definitely gotten rarer, Who knows, I may find one with the original box, Which would be cool
your nanna should of paid for the damages, i cant imagine how your pops felt
Still nice to see that you actually got one
Hi I like that fan
@@Kylesleaifrd Thanks, it’s quite a good air mover!
@@fanaticalfans thank you
Film the electrostar and stirflow
?
❤😢
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cool 👌 😂
I just recently obtained a Seasons by Valor as a gift from a close friend, if I had to Describe it in words...it's basically the Dyson Hot&Cold of the 1980s it's insanely advanced for its age
@@lukedavis436 it certainly is, they were quite ahead of their time!
A Quick Question, did you get the 9 inch electrostar and stirflow 12 inch from a joblot on marketplace
@fanaticalfans yes,I did ,what others where they
@@fanaticalfans I believe there was also a taurus and a clip fan
😂
Gosh what striking fans you got running there. I love the look of that 16 inch blue table fan at the back of the first clip!
@@Theutmostgeek Thanks! Yeah the blue one is really powerful - I did a separate video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/FpQ_xfNRZiw/v-deo.htmlsi=T6C_ilt5o7R-XxhG
A nice selection of fans you got there!
WOW awesome vintage fans bro great video man
What is the name of the plastic piece in between the motor and the gear mechanism, that is attached by 4 screws? That is why my old fan won't oscillate. I would hate to throw it away if i can just replace the part but I am having trouble finding it online.
Wish xpelair still made a product like this. Been looking for one of these for a few years now.
@@Theutmostgeek me too, they don’t make them like they used to that’s for sure!
I have an old Super deluxe 16" oscillating fan that has KH on the front of the fan housing and on the back plate it has model 166. Do you know anything about these? I need a new bent neck bracket for it and have had no luck finding one
@@stringbender247 I believe the KH stands for Kuo Horng, a Taiwanese fan maker that would have also made fans under the “Crown” name along with various other brand names… it can be tricky finding the neck brackets for these - I had a similar fan with broken neck joint and couldn’t find a replacement, if you know anyone with a 3D printer they may be able to fashion a new one for you
I’ve still got my blue ice 16” desktop fan from the late 90s. It’s the best fan I’ve ever owned and there isn’t much that comes close without spending an absolute fortune!
2:27 the fan is spinning backwards !
I started with you first tip and greased the bearings. That did the trick! Mine is working perfectly again. Thanks so much!
Nice job! Just in time for the summer weather ☀️
WD is the opposite of greasing a bearing. Use light machine oil instead
FlorenceBollardA3060 has the 12”. Beautiful fan, but wouldn’t trust it on the edge of a table. The grill shape reminds me of a HVAC cover found in shops or a Frost Drain cover.
That's just fabulous. You can easily see the family resemblance to the Elecrostsr. Much like Pifco family which came in many designs with common motor and components. It sounds exactly like a Starlet. Don't forget EFC, Foix and Indola also had square grilles in the 70s. Great video as always
Definitely, I’d almost forgotten about the EFC’s! Very happy to have this little Amcor in the collection, like you say it sounds just like it’s sister fan the Electro- Starlet
So cute
Do the finger cut test
why did u sell ur 16" blue ice desk fan??? i also found out i have your 9" b&q desk fan that you sold
Love it
Nice fan bro theres another amcor fan with circle normal grill head shape. With four grey blades
Very good video Matt I have never seen one of those what is the background of it we're was it made ?
Thanks David it was made in Israel by Amcor, possibly by the same manufacturer as the Electrostar fans as they were also made in Israel
It looks like an exhaust fan, cool!
That is one interesting designed fan. Have not seen a fan that looks like that before, it stands out from the crowd for sure. Also there were other manufacturers as well as xpelair that used square grills on their fans such as indola with their TF8 and most TF10 models, Calor also sold fans with square grills and some limits used more restrictive square grills. But overall square grills are unusual and rare to see on a fan
That’s true, I had forgotten about those other square grilled fans as they are so rare nowadays and hardly see any!
@@fanaticalfans Yeah I do not blame you for forgetting about them since square grills aren't used often in fans
not just those brands, i seen GEC use those and pifcos
I saw this on eBay!!
Well spotted! I was so intrigued when I saw it I just had to buy it
I've got this exact fan. Bought new when I lived in the UK sometime between 1990 and 1994. Made in Turkey and dual voltage so with a plug change it has worked perfectly in the USA since 1994. Like yours the plastic coupling for oscillation was broken and in several pieces. I glued it back together then encased the entire part in "JB Weld" which is a two part epoxy like substance that is machinable and extremely tough. These days you should be able to 3D print that oscillator connector. I'm not a collector but this is the best fan I've ever owned. Very quiet at all speeds, well balanced, very easy to clean with no tools required to open the cage or remove blade and oil impregnated bronze bushings never need oil.
I couldn’t agree more, these RAKS fans were built to last unlike the modern rubbish made in China today… I hope to hold on to this fan as it is a life saver during the summer months
Hey I have one of the table fans from the 90's which have broken timer and needs some servicing on the motor. How about you come to my country in South Asia and have a look at it. Hehehe.
Haha would if I could! I found the replacement timer on eBay, they are pretty cheap and usually easy to find, if you can get a replacement timer for your fan it’s really easy to swap the broken one out for the new one
