    The Highland Clearances had nothing to do with the Jacobite Rebellion or the acts of proscription. The clearances were perpetrated by Landlords moving tenants off their land because it eas more profitable to graze sheep than rent to tenant farmers. The former Clan chiefs were among the first to carry out these acts !

    How many of the Jacobites were there from choice and but because of the harsh clan system. For the poor if you didn't go you were likely to have your home burnt and any animal that you may have owned killed, therefore leaving your family to starve.

    Queen Margaret and Prince Edward did not go to Wales before Tewkesbury - they were on the way there when they were forced to stand and fight the Yorkists. Was Tewkesbury a cavalry battle? Surely it was largely fought on foot.

    As a Highlander, I despised the name of *STINKING BILLY CUMBERLAND* from childhood and I *DESPISE THAT BASTARD TO DATE.* That murdering bastard and his *BAND OF OF MURDERERS* slayed Highland males, women and children regardless of their age. BUTCHER CUMBERLAND allowed his troops to go around the Highlands killing at will, which was his way of allowing his men who "fought hard" for his father, a bit of fun and recreation.

    The Highlanders did incredibly well to even close with their enemy. They reached Barrel's Regiment , the left wing of the Government force, but the broadswird was no match for the bayonet. Cumberland handled his battle pretty well. Pity about the atrocities which followed. Some of them would have done credit to an SS Einsatzgruppe 200 years later

    Excellent video, thanks. However it is my view that the UK was very lucky that the Stuarts lost otherwise we might have been stuck with an absolute monarch like Kaiser Willhelm II and Tsar Nicholas who contributed significantly to the disaster of WW1 - at least it was up to our parliament, not an incompetend head of state to make the decision.

    The Catholic v Protestant excuse was the gloss put on this by the victors, the AngloState. Lord George Murray and most other leaders did not wish to invade England. Their desire was to end the illegal imposition of the Union and put James back on the Scottish throne alone. However, Charles wanted the English throne and England needed to keep Scotland as their colony to help pay their National Debt run up by continual warfare abroad. Hence, Culloden.

      Sadly, your ignorance proceeds you. You are wrong. An arrogant. Let me tell u how. The majority of the Jacobite rank an file as well as a lot of its leadership were non juring Episcopalians. Google it right now an see I am correct. You, like so many other arrogant know it alls, blathering the same old govt lies told hundreds of years ago. By 1745 less that 5 percent of Scotland was Catholic. This is literally just propaganda pushed by the govt to keep dummies like yourself from discovering the truth. The prince was right. To add insult to injury, I'm an American. Imagine that, an American of Scots decent having to teach a supposed Scotsman his own history. How sad. There is more to their success than just tactics and weaponry. They had personal interest in protecting Roma and their families from barbarians. Julius Caesar wrote about the Gauls, that they had human sacrifice, and one so gruesome that they made a huge wicker effigy of a man that was hollow, and filled it with men , then set it on fire as a sacrifice before they went into battle. They were so depraved that they needed to be destroyed and brought into subjection to civilized people to prevent them from making atrocities upon them. That is motivation enough for an average man to fight. But Rome was more than that, much more. Apostle Paul wrote that the Authority that exists is ordained of God, and everyone must be subject to it, for they are God’s ministers , who don’t bear the sword in vain. Rome was that Authority. God Himself , therefore , provided the authority and the strength to bring the barbaric nations into subjection to Him. That’s why Rome was a light and a supreme power , regardless of the other gods they held .

    The acts of Proscription had nothing to do with the Highland Clearances. The Disarming act and the banning of highland dress for men were an attempt to quell the martial habits of the Highlanders. Dismantling the power of the Clan chiefs aimed at ridding the Highlands of its feudal system . The much later Clearances were a purely economic maneuver by landowners intent on repurposing their land for profit . Sheep paid better than people .

    • @historyunboxedofficial
      @historyunboxedofficial 8 місяців тому

      Very true. I didn't mean for it to come across as the Act of Proscription to be linked to the highland clearances. I was just trying to get across the dismantling of the clan culture and highland way of life for the century or so following Culloden

    This policy of Cumberland although harsh did what he had hoped. The raids and attacks into England stopped we became Britain and started the greatest time in the history of these isles. Where we got together ended the common worldwide practice of slavery and began the industrial revolution that helped in combating poverty and starvation. The world is a better place because of the events at Culloden.
