People have the impression that it was a Scotland v England battle but there were actually more Scots in the government army than on the Jacobite side including the Lowland and Border regiments as well as many Highland clans opposed to the Jacobite cause
crap !
Plus there was around 500 English jacobites mainly from north west england
final stand ?? we are not done yet !!
Crap!
Genocide against the native aboriginal people of my Country.
Soon we would be wrapped up in government tartan and sent abroad to do to other native peoples what the British had done to us.
Thankfully, like all other empires, that one has come and gone.
Scotland shall be a nation again.
My 7th great grandfather was at Colloden on the English side. He was a Native American, Squirrel King of the Chickasaw tribe. He was visiting England and living with his friend, General James Oglethorpe. He would have been elderly at the time so I'm sure he didn't participate in battle, but he was there with his friend.
After the Highland clearances, many Scots came to the Colonial American South and being third class citizens, married Native American women. I therefor have ancestors who were present on both sides of Colloden.
Very interesting and fantastic that you know that part of your family history. I don't know anything further back than the late 19th century of my own
I think it's the only victory the British Army doesn't honour, especially with what happened in the appalling aftermath.
Missed out a fair part of the battle details.
Are you positive it is the final stand of the Jacobites? There is still discontent amoung the Scots .
The word Jacobites derives from the Latin for James i.e James II/VI. There may still be discontent among some Scots, but they aren't Jacobites 😊
@historyunboxedofficial oh but it matters not where the name drives from , it's a desire that rumbles in the belly of the man that wants the freedom to be the Scot he has always been .
I doubt they want to put a Stuart back on the throne!
The Gael has influenced the world in many ways, always will do.
The Highland Clearances had nothing to do with the Jacobite Rebellion or the acts of proscription. The clearances were perpetrated by Landlords moving tenants off their land because it eas more profitable to graze sheep than rent to tenant farmers. The former Clan chiefs were among the first to carry out these acts !
Do you know if there is no mention of the Battle of Falkirk? And what is with those terrible and wholly inaccurate AI paintings?????
The Highlanders did incredibly well to even close with their enemy. They reached Barrel's Regiment , the left wing of the Government force, but the broadswird was no match for the bayonet. Cumberland handled his battle pretty well. Pity about the atrocities which followed. Some of them would have done credit to an SS Einsatzgruppe 200 years later
How many of the Jacobites were there from choice and but because of the harsh clan system. For the poor if you didn't go you were likely to have your home burnt and any animal that you may have owned killed, therefore leaving your family to starve.
Excellent video, thanks. However it is my view that the UK was very lucky that the Stuarts lost otherwise we might have been stuck with an absolute monarch like Kaiser Willhelm II and Tsar Nicholas who contributed significantly to the disaster of WW1 - at least it was up to our parliament, not an incompetend head of state to make the decision.
I liked this, but man AI has a way to go.
Glad you like it ☺️ I agree that ai has some way to go. Although I try to only use ai to enhance the video. I use it for the voiceover, as I don't like the sound of my own voice (although I did have to voice some of this video as the ai couldn't pronounce culloden 😂) and then use ai images where either I can't find an appropriate clip or existing image.
I cringed visibly at the muskets, cannons and swords.
Why do you you insist on using these ridiculous AI images which represent nothing in actual history ? It completely undermines what is otherwise a reasonably accurate depiction of the battle !
This policy of Cumberland although harsh did what he had hoped. The raids and attacks into England stopped we became Britain and started the greatest time in the history of these isles. Where we got together ended the common worldwide practice of slavery and began the industrial revolution that helped in combating poverty and starvation. The world is a better place because of the events at Culloden.
I am glad you think that was beneficial. Maybe for Little England but not for the unfortunate Scots they slaughtered.
@@JohnMcMartin-pc7rb It was not England v Scotland!
@@marypetrie930 I love winding you unionist’s up. Someone always takes the bait.🏴
@@JohnMcMartin-pc7rb As i said it not only saved many future Scots but also a lot of English Farmers and civilians that the Scots before this loved to terrorize. The life under the UK of both sides improved massively after this joining that only someone who has no idea of before and after could not see it. Don't cry on about the defeat and what happened after, because of course after Scottish victories everyone shook hands and then went for a pint together. Grow up man war was hideous and atrocities occurred from both sides.
@@JamesRooney-li4eu That’s your version of history. I don’t agree with it. 😃🤪
The only point you need to take away from this battle is the Protestants won over Roman Catholics.
Tripe. This was more than that with many European nations involved,it was political not religious. The Princes army had many Protestants in it.
It was religious. The British government didn't want a catholic on the throne.
Sorry bro,why do you have to bring the story to its conclusion even before it started? That has brought to an end all expectations and thrill of watching your video for first timer like me.Iam out !
Sorry about that. I was told in one of my earlier videos that leaving the intro on a cliff hanger was too clickbaitey so I was trying a different way of introducing the video
Most people who are interested will know what happened, it's the run up and reasons for the defeat which are interesting.
