For things like salad I'll pick up the lettuce ect dip it into my dressing or dribble the dressing on the portion. For things like yogert or the like I use the lid folded once as a spoon.

It's such a great skill to use chopsticks. You can use anything if you know how to work chopsticks. It's harder to find fork shaped objects around 😅

Just be warned! Those knives can cut deep if you aren’t carful.

Use my fingers if I can or use whatever I can near me to fold into a spoon . Anything with a fork tho I gues is now finger food 😂

Super helpful for this high school teacher possibly looking to take on two sections of 6th grade English. I teach at American schools outside of the US (currently in The Netherlands) and am so sad that the violence or threat of violence is such a reality for you and teachers in the US. I taught at a charter school in SW Florida from 2004-2017 and didn't feel that, but the country has grown angrier and more divided recently. Keep it up - you seem like an awesome member of our teaching community!

Teachers are not “the problem.” However, of all the factors that affect student outcomes, the quality of the teacher remains the number one factor. Like you, I know that in high school, it is extremely difficult to overcome learning gaps caused by a lack of fundamental literacy skills, but nevertheless we have to try. I think your frustration is common and this is becoming a nationwide problem that some schools are trying to address earlier on in students’ schooling (new science of reading training, etc). I know you are having a positive impact on the skills of your students! 👍
