He scored against best bowlers of every era from 1989 to 2013. first man to make 200 possible in ODIs, took whole team to 2003 world cup alone, Most matches, most centuries, most half centuries, most runs... records speaks for itself. take best 3 bowlers of every decade and ask them best batsman of their time.. only one name comes- Sachin Tendulkar. Here's my problem with the 'I wanted to play at the highest level of the game' BS. The idea that they all left Ireland for England because they want to play Test cricket is an idea that's both laughable and deeply insulting to the rest of the cricket playing world. So many folks out there would like to play Test cricket. They don't get the opportunity that the Irish players get with this ridiculous setup the Irish and English boards had. What is the implication they're making? That they didn't want to stay and get Ireland, their team, to Test status? That they didn't want to put in the work? That they somehow 'deserve' to go play for another team because they'd like to play Tests? What does that say or mean to the thousands of other players from other nations or through history that put in the hard work, day in day out, likely knowing they'd never get to play Tests themselves, but that some day maybe because of your work, your team might? Is Ireland that bereft of a national identity? Ridiculous. Absolute, 100% unadulterated garbage mentality. At least Joyce and Rankin had the good grace to come back once they realized they could now come back to a team that had got to Test status despite them abandoning them, all ready and willing to come play now that the hard graft was already done.
