Ringwood East (Melbourne Railway Vlog 234)
Ringwood East is one of the numerous stations that have been rebuilt as part of the Level Crossing Removal programme. Located way out in the eastern suburbs, the new design is really well done!
Works have progressed significantly since this video was filmed.

*NEW* Metro Tunnel Construction Update Spring 2024 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 233)
Переглядів 32 тис.21 день тому
A progress update on the Metro Tunnel and Latrobe St tram works. Since the last update, there has been significant progress on the three remaining unfinished sites of Anzac, State Library, and Town Hall. While there is still a lot of work to do with the latter two, there are certainly promising signs. Also shown in this video is progress at Arden and Parkville, where major construction has long...
Malvern (Melbourne Railway Vlog 232)
Переглядів 560Місяць тому
Malvern is a busy inner-city station, very well served by 3 train lines. It gets a train about every 5 minutes into the city, even in off-peak! It's a lovely old-style station, but unfortunately has fallen into a state of disrepair, with the tactiles needing replacement. I did however, in the video, get mixed up between Malvern and Armadale. Daniel Bowen wrote an article about how Armidale need...
A Trip on the West Coast Wilderness Railway (Tasmanian Railway Vlog 1)
Переглядів 3262 місяці тому
In the wild west of Tasmania sits one of the most unlikely railway lines. Once upon a time, it was possible to get all the way to Hobart from Strahan and Queenstown, which are surrounded by untouched and extremely rugged hills. The West Coast Wilderness Railway operates services between Strahan and Queenstown, although it is currently not possible to go all the way through on one train. I decid...
Bunyip part 2 (Victorian Railway Vlog 34)
Переглядів 3762 місяці тому
The second platform at Bunyip is finally open. Well, it was finally open 2 months ago when I filmed this video, but I forgot to upload it, much like the construction crews seemed to forget about finishing the project at Bunyip and Longwarry! I was lucky enough to enjoy a stunning evening, with a beautiful sunset, and a constant chorus of corellas. Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Le...
Keon Park part 2 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 231)
Переглядів 8052 місяці тому
Keon Park is station on the Mernda line which has been rebuilt in a very controversial fashion. While Skyrail was definitely the best option for removal, the platforms have been placed extremely close to the existing apartments. These apartments predated the new station, but not by long - they probably should have taken into account that Skyrail was going to be the method deployed. Aside from t...
Parkdale (Melbourne Railway Vlog 230)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 місяці тому
The newly rebuilt Parkdale station only opened a couple of days ago, and here is how it looks! Unlike most of the Frankston line's upgraded stations, it is a skyrail one, which was very controversial among locals. However, as usual, I think they have done a really good job with the design, and once all the at ground landscaping works are done, it will look great! Hope you enjoy the video! Outro...
Can I Pass Every Melbourne Train Station in One Day? (Melbourne Railway Vlog 229)
Переглядів 40 тис.3 місяці тому
211 train stations, 15 train lines, but only 24 hours to go through every one on Melbourne's incredibly spread out and often unreliable rail network. Join us as we hastily explore the whole network, including seeing progress on level crossing removals and SRL! This would be a challenge on any day, but my friend and I picked one where one of the legs required a replacement bus, adding even more ...
Bittern (Melbourne Railway Vlog 228)
Переглядів 4763 місяці тому
Once the junction for the Red Hill line, Bittern is now a pretty typical, quiet Stony Point line station. It only has a single platform, although it does have a nice amount of greenery. Hope you enjoy the video! Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS release] ua-cam.com/video/K4DyBUG242c/v-deo.html
Hastings (Melbourne Railway Vlog 227)

I have always wanted to see a train use the Long Island siding, and in this video, I finally managed it. I start at the location of the siding, which is located between Tyabb and Hastings. After seeing the train, I head down to the station itself, which is one of the worst I have seen on the whole network! It's such a shame that such a large town has such an ordinary station. Tyabb (Melbourne Railway Vlog 226)

Tyabb is a very modest station on the Stony Point line. With only the single platform and a low-frequency service, it certainly isn't the best going around. Nevertheless, it is always fun checking out random Stony Point line stations. Hope you enjoy! Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS release] ua-cam.com/video/K4DyBUG242c/v-deo.html
Pakenham part 2 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 225)
Переглядів 6483 місяці тому
Pakenham is no longer the terminus of the line, following a project to remove 3 level crossings around it. Metro services have been extended to East Pakenham to allow V/lines to easily pass Metro trains on their way out to Traralgon. The new Pakenham station is very flashy, particularly from the outside. There is, however, still a lot of work to be done on the station, particularly on platform ...
East Pakenham (Melbourne Railway Vlog 224)
Переглядів 2,2 тис.4 місяці тому
Welcome to the newest station on the railway network! The level crossing removal project at Pakenham presented the opportunity to improve the interaction between V/line and Metro trains at the end of the line. Often, V/lines would get delayed while waiting for space at Pakenham. This new station allows for V/lines to easily pass by terminating Metro trains. This video is a bit of a strange one,...
Metro Tunnel Construction Update Winter 2024 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 223)
Переглядів 35 тис.4 місяці тому
Lots of progress has been made on the Metro Tunnel since the last construction update video that I made. In this video, I visit the 7 main construction sites - the 5 stations, and the 2 portals. Of course, most of the video is focussed on above-ground progress, particularly at the incomplete stations; the tunnel itself is essentially finished, with test trains able to travel the whole way throu...
Queens Way (Melbourne Tram Vlog 10)

Queens Way is a fascinating tram stop in Melbourne's inner south-east. Located in the centre of what feels like a freeway, it is only accessible from one side by a somewhat haphazard staircase. A Trip on the Bellarine Railway (Victorian Railway Vlog 32)
Skyrail really is so much nicer than trenches (Ringwood East vs Croydon)
Engineering in Melbourn is good , like infrastructure, Melbourn water projects. But architecture is absolutely imbecile. Buildings can not even be put in a chategories of architecture. I don’t know what schools those architects finished. Some rock and roll camp workshop.
To answer the question, i would suggest to show on the map with little arrows where thise entries are, when you go from station to station. You are asume g that people know city centre as their pocket. We do not .
Beast Pakenham
V/line would be the best because you could actually rest
I do love at 11:34 how you show an idiot pedestrian almost walking directly in front of the tram!! How hard is it to turn your bloody head? I think the only reason he stopped was due to the wind being pushed in front of the tram itself letting him know it was there. Geez! Some people are examples of that 'Dumb Ways to Die' song. It will be lovely to have a new rail system for the city but the essential project needed is the Suburban Rail Link around the city. Really there should be another ring just like it further out east with stations running north-south from Lilydale to Upper Ferntree Fully, so: down through Mount Evelyn, Kilsyth through to Lysterfield and further south. When I think of just how far behind other major global cities we are in terms of rail accessibility. Our rail between State Capitals and regional centres is a joke. How many federal governments commissioning reports do we need before someone actually puts pen to paper to sign off on a proper infrastructure bill which gives regional Australia access to cities via HSR? If a Labor government ever wants to topple the Nationals in the bush all they need to do is commit to safe consistent rail services at reasonable costs to ride and the bush will vote with their sensibility and knowledge that one party actually does something rather than just talk and promise never delivered projects.
Great video, Ty! Kooyong used to be called North Malvern? 11:04
As it's my local station, I will defend Ruthven - has had a nice resurfacing, extra shelter, the free grass space now has a substation on it. They should paint the building red like it was when it opened in 1963, though. It lacks facilities, but you know what does have facilities? My house, a few minutes walk away.
My judgement on this station is still the same as I did the review

Metro Tunnel Melbourne Airport Rail Link Suburban Rail Loop Western Rail Plan Geelong Fast Rail
Hurstbridge and Mernda lines Alamein, Glen Waverley, Belgrave and Lilydale lines Craigieburn, Sunbury and Upfield lines Cranbourne and East Pakenham lines Frankston, Werribee and Williamstown lines Sandringham Line
As of 2025, The Metro Tunnel was completed which included twin 9 km rail tunnels between South Kensington and South Yarra, 5 new underground stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac and it has the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines running through it. Also it has direct airport connection via the Melbourne Airport Rail Link which was completed in 2029 and included an upgraded Sunshine Station with a new regional platform and a new transport superhub, a rebuilt Albion Station on ground level on the Sunbury Line, a new Keilor East Station on ground level and a new elevated Melbourne Airport Station on skyrail. And as of 2043, the Suburban Rail Loop was completed which is a 90 km rail line from Cheltenham to Werribee via Melbourne Airport and 60 kms of it from Cheltenham to Melbourne Airport was built underground with 13 new underground stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood, Box Hill, Doncaster, Heidelberg, Bundoora, Reservoir, Fawkner, Broadmeadows and Melbourne Airport, 2 new transport superhubs at Clayton and Broadmeadows and SRL driverless trains.
On the South Morang Line as of 2018, the Mernda Rail Extension from South Morang to Mernda was completed and it included 3 new stations at Middle Gorge, Hawkstowe and Mernda. Middle Gorge Station was built on ground level and Hawkstowe and Mernda Stations were built above ground with skyrail. And that train line is now called the Mernda Line. And as of 2019, the level crossing at High Street, Reservoir was removed by building a 1 km skyrail with a new elevated Reservoir Station. And as of 2023, the Hurstbridge Line Duplication was completed which included around 3 kms of duplicated tracks between Greensborough and Eltham and around 1.5 kms between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen. Around 4.5 kms of track duplication in total between Greensborough and Hurstbridge. Greensborough and Montmorency stations got completely rebuilt and Diamond Creek Station got upgraded. Then, as of 2027, the level crossing at Ruthven Street, Macleod was removed by building a skyrail over the road. And then, as of 2028, the rail tunnel under Greensborough Highway was extended a few hundred metres longer and a new multi-deck car park was built at Watsonia Station as part of the North East Link.
only metro station with its direction after its name. the railway line was in the spot you thought, it was basically identical design to keon park two entrances but with only one overpasS???
Concourse looks a bit like Greensborough's
Can Tecoma be next?
damn that's a lot of grafitti
Welcome to East Ringwood, the “security “ guards are asleep most of the time.
I am not going to lie but I think Beaconsfield is also a pretty bad station since it doesn't have too much shelter and it doesn't even have the PIDS for the next train information which is really annoying.
Yeah, it definitely wasn't far off these lists!
@ I also really wish you could make a similar video but for the worst tram stops in Melbourne or a part 3 since I really enjoy these videos.
I don't think I'll make a part 3 anytime soon, because I think I've flogged this horse enough. I was thinking about doing the worst V/line stations though! I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos!
I feel like next time in melbs, I want to a do a full 901 ride from Frankston to airport…. Or if there’s a much longer bus, tell me haha
Omg, you'd have to be pretty brave to do that. 5 hours on a bus is pretty difficult, let alone one that isn't designed for journeys that long that stops and starts frequently. Good luck!
Have you done any videos on the SRL? Would be interested to see and hear your take. Great Vids! :)
I haven't done any on it yet. Thanks for the suggestion. I might look at doing a video on it once the uni sem ends!
2 weeks ago, one of the diggers on franklin street hit a water main and it looks like every worker had to evacuate cause the water started flooding the tunnel. Not sure how much that delays works, though.
What happened with Joe Barr (John Holland boss) saying that it would be ready by September this year? Is 2025 an election year?
Awesome really enjoyed the trip and well done Nick keeping you company and all that running 🚂
Thanks!
I wonder why an upgrade for Parliament etc wasn't coordinated with new stations? Poor Parliament has same paint job since it opened! It's held up magnificently but really needs some TLC. Even a proper ongoing maintenance program would have mitigated the complete overhaul it now needs
I live near Latrobe and use those trams all the time. For AGES no one used them, they were very empty. Now there's the upgrade - they are packed all the time! The students finally got the memo! Lol it makes me laugh.
Sorry you had to lurk inside Maccas. Can't you see anything from the foyer of the Westin Hotel?
I did get up to level 10 of one those buildings last time to film. I think it was one of those weird unis in the city. It wasn't open this time though. Westin Hotel could be an interesting idea for next time!
as someone who rides a tram down st kilda road from flinders st to near anzac station every day for work, this will be a game changer! the trams are super crowded, get stuck in traffic and take 15 minutes to travel down the road. I can't wait to ride a train!
Are the trams not segregated?
@@Tonydjjokerit they are, but there's so many of them that they start building up and there's a traffic light every 100m. It's faster to ride a bike or escooter down that corridor.
@@kadafi4lyf Yes but with G7 They will stop ytou in their tracks as they have a vested interest in keeping the rest of the world poor! BRICS doesn't have that. All it wants is stability and everyone in the world to benefit!
@@kadafi4lyf Some upgrading is needed!
Capping beams run across the top of piles and provide structure above a platform to be built on. They also transfer the load of the above structure to the piles
That was the comment I was looking for! Thanks
Great getting the technical details on the updates! Thanks for putting these together.
My pleasure!
The temp bridge was still better than the bridge at Jacana.
Hahahaha you're not wrong!
burnley station never fails to give me the unnerving feeling that I'm in a twilight zone episode
Hahaha
3:13 - FYI, boollook is a Bunorong language word for swamp, so the name of the park is actually just "Swamp" in both English and the local First Nations language. ❤💛🖤
Fascinating!
Ah… that was a “fun” day. Here in New York it crashed the system we use to keep track of what crews are on what trains and what trips they’re making. They had to break out the pencil and paper method from times gone by. It didn’t actually affect train service, just the tracking, and someone compared us to the 2004 “Battlestar Galatica”… can’t crash a computer you don’t have…
Hahaha. I'm pleasantly surprised that train systems worldwide had necessary backup systems that stopped from being caught up in this too badly
Thank you! I often wonder what's happening underground (and else where) whenever I travel past any signs of construction. By the end of journey, I've added it to the hundreds of other things I'd like to know (time and attention being limited). Stumbling across this video was well worth the time and some of the photography was a pleasure - who knows what time of day or night you've lurked about an empty city to get those super shots!
My pleasure. Yes, I certainly was stumbling around the city at obscure times to avoid the crowds!
I'm guessing the contractor makes a small profit every night they can keep those diesel lights on...
Love your work.
Thanks!
I don't watch news but electromagnetic radionation from a train would not affect a hospital any more than a mobile phone would. Vibrations are the issue, trains are still running 1/2 speed under the hospital because of it. There are many highly sensitive instruments (like MRI) which have been seen to be affected by the trains vibrations. There are instruments with similar issues caused even still with the 1/2 speed trains at other facilities along the works lines.
Regarding the new streetlights being up and not used yet - The supply Authority - Citypower in this case - won’t book a connection until the electrical work has been completed and signed off and a Certificate of Electrical Safety issued. Only then it will go into their schedule - which usually takes 3 to 6 months from booking. Customers - even big ones like the State Government, are left with no alternative but to use diesel light towers while they wait as they can’t connect one Gen in to run the lights as this then effectively cancels the COES issued as the wiring would be disturbed. It’s a big cluster bomb and I have to work with this every day with what I do. Great update - appreciate your time to make it. 👍
That is so interesting! I would never have known. Something really needs to be done about that sort of rent seeking behaviour. It's so harmful for us not only financially, but environmentally from having to run those dirty diesel generators. Thanks for that great insight!
I wonder how much it would be to put a basic manual transfer switch in vs the rental costs of the towers. That said, I'm unaware of the supply authority rules there. I suppose the lights are on a direct unmetered connection anyway
I regularly travel on trains purely for phun 'n' fotos. I am really looking forward to exploring the new system, and your updates serve to increase the anticipation. Many thanks.
My pleasure!
Absolute waste of time and money imo
Why and what do you propose?
14 billion dollars has been spent for a few people to go from one end of the city to another, when there are already trams going every minute. Didn't need to be built at all.
@Bodhished That is a nothing answer. A few people? Clearly, you do not know what you are talking about. Those trams are packed. You are not looking at the big picture. The Swanston Street tram corridor is congested. By building the Melb Metro, some tram routes can be redirected to serve other corridors such as William St and Elizabeth St. In fact, they are going connect Eliabeth Street with Flinders, so some routes can extend eastwards.
@@mjcats2011 it's costing roughly $3000 for every person in the state plus $150 per year interest. Vast majority of them never use this corridor. It is already serviced by trams. They are going to destroy the economy by doing things like increasing taxes to pay for the massive debt. This thing will not be profitable in and of itself and will net drain more money over time.
@Bodhished Still no argument. Lots of people use that corridor that's why it is the busiest tram corridor in the world. Providing infrastructure costs money, your argument is just baseless. And again what is your proposal?
This project is taking too long and too many disruptions and traffic issues.
I used to use North Richmond station coming back from Kew, I have never felt more unsafe anywhere else in Victoria and I regularly go through the city at night.
‘Arrive into’…???
Franklin Street should remain closed (No access to Victoria Street) Franklin Street should be a winter garden
What is the sectional RL of the Rail line under Punt Road? Will it limit and prevent a future road tunnel under punt road? The location of Anzac stations is a mistake should have been located closer to Toorak Road. A missed opportunity could have and a should have included a local underground shopping. . St Kilda Road should not be the municipal boundary. As a minimum Queens Road should be the boundary. Ideally the State Seats of Albert Park, Melbourne and Phrahran (Possibly Richmond) should be Part of the City of Melbourne. The closed bike lane on State kilda RD should re removed.
The last bit of the Metro Tunnel does indeed cross Punt Rd. I'm not aware of any plans for a road tunnel under Punt Rd, and I think it would be a silly idea anyway. We already have one of the densest freeway networks in the world!

A fascinating and well presented report. Although I am on the other side of the World in Britain, it is interesting to see what is happening in Australia. It looks good. The mention of interference with medical equipment is particularly interesting as I have just read something similar about the South Wales Metro (currently under construction with discontinuous electrification). It seems that the tram-trains will be using battery power whilst passing medical facilities in Cardiff. One question- What track gauge is used by the Metro and also by the trams.
It's wild that they choose to reopen Franklin and not just use it as an opportunity to kick cars out of an area. Just unpleasant to think there'll be another wait to cross a road directly next to a station.
Thanks so much for this! I can't wait to go exploring. I'm old enough (just) to remember when the city loop first opened. How things have changed since then!
