Kids on Crags
Приєднався 19 чер 2018
Scottish hill, waterfalls and beach walks with young kids giving hints and tips on what might be possible (a guide only every kid is different). Includes Munros, Corbetts, Grahams and any good fun hills as well as longer walks and time finding beaches. As always be safe and go well prepared.
Ben Vane (brilliant wee Munro)
Ben Vane - brilliant wee hill! We put this one off due to reputation for scramble, exposure and false summits at top. This was Munro 48 for the boys. Took 6 hours. It’s 914m and only just high enough to make Munro status, but it is a steep, rocky little mountain with real character and awesome views.

Beinn a' Chochuill & Beinn Eunaich

Great day. 6:30 with lunch. Brilliant hills and not too challenging other than awful steep route off. We would recommend going back the way you come up. Munro 47 for kids.
Beinn Chabhair
Переглядів 15614 днів тому
BEINN CHABHAIR - At 933m it's one of the smaller Munros but this was a big walk after 4 weeks off. The start via Beinglas Falls is very steep and eroded, and there is fair amount of boggy ground on the middle, moorland section as described by Walk Highlands. We had lunch after a late start at the falls. There is a reasonably safe ridge walk before a summit with cool views. Took us 7 hours. Watc...
Meall a' Bhuiridh and Creise (without the Creise part)
Переглядів 133Місяць тому
Meall a' Bhuiridh and Creise was the plan. Not taking the sky lift was also the plan. We took the sky lift which was amazing and we had to turn back before ridge over to Creise as too windy for our little guys. Brilliant day.
Càrn Mòr Dearg (and back)
Переглядів 269Місяць тому
Càrn Mòr Dearg up to Arête and back. 6:20 for nearly 10 miles. Didn’t do arête as we climbed Ben Nevis last year and kids are too young. Brilliant hot day.
Beinn Narnain, straight up kids scrambling and loop back past the Cobbler
Переглядів 255Місяць тому
Beinn Narnain - we did the direct ascent of Beinn Narnain which we loved as it was steep , good steps and rough and rocky scrambling towards the top. A brilliant day. Kids loved it. Be careful on rocky bits. Took us 5 hours for 7.5 miles.
Meall nan Tarmachan Ridge walk
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 місяці тому
Meall nan Tarmachan Ridge walk. Amazing but not for kids in our opinion! It started grey and rainy. Quickly got roasting hot. Ended up with sunburn! The rocky ridge traverse is brilliant and Walk Highlands say it’s one of the most interesting in the Southern Highlands. There is a short, avoidable scramble on the descent from Meall Garbh. We found it challenging and hence we wouldn’t advise kids...
Sa Talaia (Ibizas highest mountain).
Переглядів 952 місяці тому
Sant Josep de Sa Talaia: Ibizas highest mountain. We climbed to the top of Sa Talaia, the highest mountain in lbiza, with 475 meters, allowing us to enjoy the incredible views of the island of lbiza and the coast of Formentera. Good as today was hot but more cloudy.
Meall Garbh - completing the Lawers Range
Переглядів 1092 місяці тому
We finally finished the Lawers Range but completing Meall Garbh. Over 5:30 and 10 miles. We did direct route so it was steep.
Happy Easter from Stuchd an Lochain
Переглядів 1103 місяці тому
We came back to complete the second Munro after doing Meall Buidhe the first time. Stuchd an Lochain is situated between Glen Lyon and Gleann Daimh. We parked at the dam and walked left and quickly found the point to start the hill. We were over 4 hours. Views and visibility were amazing. Quite steep for kids this one and eroded paths on route up. Amazing day for Easter.
Ben Donich, Arrochar
Переглядів 953 місяці тому
Ben Donich with a tiny bit of snow. 4 hours for over 5 miles. Amazing hill, brilliant geology but watch out for the holes!!
Ben Vrackie (second time)
Переглядів 1444 місяці тому
Ben Vrackie lies above Pitlochry at 2,759ft (841m) in height, Ben Vrackie is a Corbett. This was our second time up as we didn’t have Finlay with us the first time. 3:30 for 6.5 miles. As with last time views disappeared as the weather rolled in. Great for kids but hold hands as you get closer to the final climb.
Ben Vorlich, Loch Lomond
Переглядів 2944 місяці тому
Ben Vorlich, Loch Lomond - brilliant Munro in the Arrochar Alps. It reaches 943 metres (3,094 ft). It lies between Loch Lomond and Loch Sloy. It took just under 6.5 hours including lunch and long crampon stop as very snowy above 600m. Nearly ten miles. Our kids 39th Munro and they loved it.

Great informative video, thanks for the details on parking/route to take etc. 😊
Took our 8 year old up those two today based on this. Well done and keep up the great content.
Amazing. 👏 How did they do? Did you come off the steep side?
@@Kidsoncrags Yeah, took the best part of an hour as the rain came in. Everyone coped! 🤣🤣
Love it. Was it as steep as we thought it was? Thanks for message 👍
Lol…yes. You’re stuck between a rocky side and a hard descent though. Don’t know if we fancied coming back down the rocky side again to go down the bealach way! 🤣🤣
Another brilliant video, well done boy’s and mum & dad too , looks a good walk for a couple in their later years that love the hills. Thank you 😊🌟
Thanks so much from the team x
Love the video ! Was great seeing you on the mountain, and that rocky steep descent was rough 😂
Amazing, Finlay should have ran them with you lol. Did you come off the steep side?
Fabulous wee video👏👏👏
Thank you ☺️
Another great video 🤗 well done getting to the top through all the bog 🌟 thank you for sharing again👍
Glad you enjoyed it. It’s great to get some comments and let the boys see them
@@Kidsoncrags your boys deserve all the encouragement they can get, they do so well 🤗
Well done. I'm glad I climbed it from the other side at Derrydaroch farm now I've seen that bog 😂 Amazing views at the top 👍
This sounds strange but we eventually enjoyed the bog. It wasn’t cold so we laughed most of way down. Boots need jet washed lol
Great vid, I'm the other fella who met you guys on the way down. Both tops were too windy to hang around so lunch was delayed until the bottom. lol. Good luck on your next adventure 👍
It was a pleasure to chat with you. What the next hill you have planned?
@Kidsoncrags got a few planned, Possibly the 4 around Tyndrum, possibly split into 2 trips though. What's next for you guys?
@andyhill580 Beinn a Ghlo perhaps or Dorian.
@Kidsoncrags Beinn a Ghlo on my list for this year.. . Did Beinn Dorain in September tho... amazing views, you'll love it 👍
Me and my friends at 4:25! We were enjoying our lunch break.😆 Kids are amazing climbers!🥳
Brilliant - what a day we enjoyed. Just perfect 😍
Nice to meet you all, im the fella who turned back with you the wind was far to strong on the top, good call always another day, good luck in the hills for the future
It was a pleasure meeting you and thanks for the advice. Also it was brilliant seeing you get down faster than the ski lift 👍
Well done guys, great work, take care
Thanks 👍 it was amazing fun
lol youre so scottish, looks like a great day out with the little ones though they will remember this, keep up the fun times, i have no idea why im here though youtube recommended it
Aww thanks 👍 good on UA-cam 😂
Great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍8
Thanks 👍
That was a great video. Brought back happy memories for me on my Munro compleation. Happy birthday on Friday Everly. Love Linda & Brora. 🐶
Thanks so much Linda. We wouldn’t have been up there today if we hadn’t watched your final Munro round summit and got the advice about CMD. We appreciate it. The boys are all saying hello 👋 ❤️
This is great .. where's this place ..
Hi, it’s Arrochar alps. You park at Succoth just by Arrochar. 👍
@@Kidsoncrags thanks .. it's beautiful.. I wish I could do the isle of Skye hike. It's my dream. Thx for info.. 👍🏻
@@kaleemjan4899 Skye is on the list for when boys are older 👍
@@Kidsoncrags I would love to see you guys doing Isle of Skye...
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. sub & 👍17
Well done!😀💯👍👍 I would think carrying a pair, or at least one hiking stick would help her confidence. Sticks certainly are a huge help if one slips or stumbles. Keep at it young lady. You willlove it. I LOVED my time in Scotland in 1997. I did three Munroes. Slioch, Bein Eighe, and of course Ben Nevice. DO NOT feel bad about the "bum shuffle". Been there and done that many times :) including this hike on Mt Reynolds in Glacier Park. 😎😎 The very end of the video is at the summit 9329ft ua-cam.com/video/mHvzCRPsdNc/v-deo.html
Thanks so much
Well done you two 🎉
Started searching for clips up the mountain to see what we had missed out on…. Lo and behold stumbled across you guys!!! Jay enjoyed watching his pals
Hey buddy, yes this is the guys account for their hill walking. Be good to hear how you guys are doing. Say hello to the boys from The boys. 😂👍
Lovely warm holiday 😊no crampons needed there 🤗. Love the new haircut , thank you for sharing your walk 👍🌟
Thanks so much , pool day tomorrow ❤️
Brillaint well done. Thanks for the tip as I've done the first one. I need to to Meall Garbh and An Stuc. So I can miss out the first one. Well done again Alan
Yeah albeit it felt just as tough and long at the time 😂
We did Stuc from Lawers to avoid the steeper scramble with the boys also.
@@Kidsoncrags I bailed out on Ben Lawers after bagging Beinn Ghlas last year. I am considering doing An Stuc via Ben Lawers next time. And then maybe continue across to the other two Meall Corranaich and Meall a'Choire Lèith. Charlie McCartney and his brother did all 5 of them this way. I'll tackle Meall Greigh and Meall Garbh seperately probably from Lawers Hotel. Just hope I can get Skye, my Golden Retriver past the stile?
@karlejnarch we did Meall C and CL as one route. We did Lawers to An Stuc. Well worth the visits 👍
Brilliant 🤗 your boys just love the outdoors and make it look so easy to climb a mountain, well done everyone 👏 . Thank you for sharing the route and parking. Weather so very changeable. 🥾🏴
Yeah it was a lovely day but freezing on top and changed in seconds
Hi, Thinking of doing this tomorrow, can you tell me when this was filmed please? just to get an idea of snow conditions. Great Video, I have now started taking my 6 year old granddaughter up some munros, she is loving it too.
Yesterday
Conditions are pretty good, boggy lower down and few deeper slushy sections. Snow is fine. We used spikes but not needed for most
We have an instagram as well as the UA-cam to show good ones for kids. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for replying, I will probably give it a go tomorrow. Wont have the little one with me tomorrow, she will be too busy eating easter eggs😄😄. I have followed you on Instagram too, always good to get ideas for reasonably "easier" munros for kids@@Kidsoncrags
Super wee video guys, it was great to stop and chat yesterday, love the kids enthusiasm! The Aberdeen guy
Lovely to meet you 😊👍
Love your videos, love that the kids go with yous ❤
Awww thanks. It was their idea and they love it. Scared of the day they don’t . Thanks for comment 👍
Well done on climbing ben Vorlich the snow looks very steep but very fun 🎉love Sophie Olivia mummy and daddy 😊
Big thanks from Finlay and Everly ❤️
Great video, looks like you all had a good day, take care.
It was awesome, such lovely weather
Great video, great views 😃 Looked like the boys really enjoyed it. What a nice family day in the hills. ATB Karl
It was an amazing day. Thanks for the message ☺️
Nice video mate. I go up Croy Hill every now and then as its only a 5 min drive from where I stay. I take my son up a few times. I done a video on this last year with my son and had my drone up at the top. The other hill Barr Hill towards twecher is really good. More roman stuff up that. Take care Alan
I’ll take a look buddy 👍
4hours 15 up and down?? Easy enough to follow ? Planning doin this Sunday
Yeah very good path. Especially if you. One back the way you came. The loop needs more consideration. Enjoy
It's a nice wee walk on a sunny day. If you had carried on to the rail bridge you would have got to the famous inn mentioned in 'Kidnapped' by RLS and 'Antiquary' by Sir Walter Scott, its the Hawes Inn not the Ferry Tap. Another nice walk from South Queensferry is to Cramond through Dalmeny estate. Time it right for the tide and get over to the Island as well.
Absolutely , like the route to Cramond also. Thanks for the pub info I said that from memory 😂
Brilliant video mate. Just subscribed. Your videos will help me give ideas where to take my 6 year old so too. Take care Alan
Brilliant and exactly what we all want 👍
Great video, thank you! What do you make of the weather at the moment? I was hoping to go up to the Cairngorms this weekend, potentially for an overnight stay. I am not sure if it will be too cold, too wet, or both! I am thinking of seeing what happens but any advice from the pros would be greatly appreciated (the kids, ofc!)
Kids are in bed lol. I’d stay lower down for now. It will be freezing. Be prepared for deep snow and some of the most inhospitable weather in the UK. I’m sure Finlay would say - be very careful, maps, expert level A+ and Everest gear lol ❄️😉
Hi I’m Sophie I’m age 8. A question for Finlay and Everley? My sister, mummy, and daddy and I just wanted to know what camera you use we love your show
Hi Sophie, This is our most favourite message since starting the wee channel. We just use an iPhone 13 on landscape and use Video Up app and it moves nicely into UA-cam widescreen. We try not to move too much or quality isn’t as good as UA-cam buffers it. We might get some cool stuff one day like a go pro and a drone if the boys keep enjoying it as much as they do now. Finlay and Everly say a big hello 👋
Thanks for the video. About to set off with my kids to climb it so good to know what to expect (we have crampons ;)
Let us know how it goes? ❤️
👏
What a great page,we were the couple you met on the way down😁
Awww thanks, lovely to meet you guys. We have a page on Insta also with same handle .
That looked absolutely amazing! I love a temperature inversion but have very seldom had one on the hills. I'd have definitely wanted my ice axe with me for that. My Ben Lomond experience is unusual. It was my first Munro - climbed overnight. I've been up it three times but I've never been in Rowardennan. All my climbs of it have been from the east side, joining the main path about 2/3 of the way up.
Brilliant. It’s our second time and kids really like the hill. Good experience in the colder conditions also.
The same god light I saw when I was on the train going by years ago. Amazing. Nice hike everyone!
Brilliant the boys done so well in the conditions, fantastic views . Thank you for sharing 🤗❤️
Our pleasure! It was amazing. So proud of the boys.
Just after you said "that's just a tree" there was a quick shot of something scary. I tried to pause the video a few times but I couldn't. Probably, like ghosts, you can never prove monsters in a photo.
Well done on getting both walks in with the boys! Great views! We love maspie den, our boys loved the spooky tunnel more than the actual waterfall! 😂
😂 brilliant, it’s amazing place
That Siren Head looked really scary!! 😦
The things that UA-cam introduce 😂
🤣 hopefully the scary monster didn’t get you 🫣. What a great walk to keep the legs moving and the boys loved it by the sounds of things 🤗🌟
Thank you 🤗 don’t tell anyone but we are all safe and well ❤️
Hi m8, im the chap you where speaking to just on the way down (with my wee girl, boy and dog trying not to get pulled down the hill lol) glad to have had a wee look for the channel, cheers 👍, Dan.
Lovely to meet you Dan. Some good ideas for the kids. All the best buddy.
Happy new year folks & happy birthday pal. Amazing to see the difference to the Conic. Needed the path upgrade as it must be the most popular hill in Scotland due to its proximity to Glasgow & the west. Look forward to watching you’re adventures in the new year. Enjoy the Prosecco 👍🥂
Thanks buddy and happy new year 👍
I've been up Conic hill a couple of times with the kids ( long time ago). It's a shame the weather wasn't a bit better, the views are amazing on a clear day...Happy New Year to all the family. 🙏👍
Lovely Hill. We still had a lovely walk and one we will do time and time again I’m sure. HNY. 👍
What a great wee channel!💙 We bumped into you on our way down today! Afterwards I kept thinking you guys were familiar and I'm pretty sure I briefly spoke with you back in the summer, on a roasting hot day doing the Glen Lyon horseshoe! Anyway...well done on today! I'm away to Google those awesome Spiderman gloves your youngest had on 😂🙌🏼
This has to be our favourite comment to date. So lovely to meet you. The Glen Lyon day was one of our best. X
Great video guys with lovely views, all the best for 2024!
All the best for 24 👍
For its size, Meall Fuar-mhonaidh is a great viewpoint. Glad you enjoyed it. Ben Wyvis catches the cloud, and I've been on it in cloud when everything else in all directions was clear. I think I'd climbed it 6 times before I got a view from the summit.
