Exploring And Fishing The Waters Of The Kootenays!
Over the course of five days, me and my good buddy will explore the pristine beauties of the Kootenays and attempt to catch various different types of fish that call these waterways their homes!
#fishing #adventure #britishcolumbia #kootenays #multispeciesfishing
Right of the bat, I'd like to give another massive thanks to Jonah and his family for taking me out to this wonderful location and housing me over the past 5 days! You guys are truly incredible and I am extremely fortunate to have had this opportunity to spend time with all of you!
On day one, we had a quick little fishing session at Kuskanuk Harbour on the south arm of Kootenay Lake. It is there that we were able to hammer out a bunch of different species of fish. Then the second day is when we did a lot of exploring in the old mine sites along the Pend Oreille River. We also were able to finesse a large quantity of Smallmouth Bass to bite out drop shot rig. The next day was our urban fishing mission. We got access onto a private dock in Nelson and did more multi species fishing in the west arm of Kootenay Lake. I also was able to hook up to a PB at this spot. Then, we head south to Christina Lake for day four. It is there that I was unsuccessful in catching a Largemouth Bass, but was extremely successful in catching some quality Smallmouth Bass. And for the final day in BC, we head back to Alberta but stop at a roadside lake, Erie Lake. It is here that I was able to catch the Largemouth Bass I wasn't able to get at Christina Lake. And along with the beautiful Largemouth Bass, I was able to get onto some good size Pumpkinseed Sunfish. All-round, it was a truly unforgettable trip and I am glad that I am able to share my experience with all of you. Enjoy the video!

    It's my favourite place too. I've worked there. I've harvested everything from Puget Sound king crab to sea cucumbers and gooseneck barnacles there,.. And I caught my two biggest halibut there within 30 minutes of each other - a 77-pounder and a 101-pounder. That halibut you caught looks close to my 77-pounder. Maybe bigger. Not to mention rockfish and yelloweye. I gotta get back there.

      The regulations are based on the location pf where you are fishing the river. But downstream from a certain area there becomes an open limit for pike and walleye. And I believe that you can keep goldeye everywhere. I’m m glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for commenting!

    Amazing with how productive fishing is there, the walleye seem to be growing pretty fast in that lake by telling from previous episodes. Lately, I haven't been able to find walleye this late spring, except for a 10-pounder I got in May. I've been getting lots of nice thick pike. Crackin days this year.

    What lure or bait do you use for gold eye fish?

    • @MainstreamAngling
      @MainstreamAngling Місяць тому

      My go to for the hot summer days is a two and a half inch soft plastic swim bait. Work it along the bottom and you’re sure to get bit. Depending on the water conditions, natural colour for clear water and bright or dark for murky water.

    Awesome video guys! Gets me pumped up for summer. One thing you might want to note for future fishing on the Red Deer River, bait is illegal upstream of Tolman bridge, including those scented Powerbait Power Minnows you’re using (aside from maggots, which are allowed so people can fish whitefish). Would you guys have caught as many with unscented ones like Jackall? Almost definitely, but just wanted to make sure you guys, or anyone watching your videos, don’t get fined if CO’s roll up on you and you’re unaware.

    • @MainstreamAngling
      @MainstreamAngling Місяць тому
