  • I have done over night fishing trips in the past, but none of them can compare to this trip...

    The Red Deer River in Southern Alberta is such a beautiful and unique waterbody. The river is clear and warm, there is erosion and hoodoos surrounding the bank and most of all, the fishing is incredible. There are plenty of big fish, but also a lot of diversity. It is by far, one of my favorite rivers, of all time!
    In this episode, me and my dad arrive late one night to the Red Deer River. Our immediate goal was to set up camp as the night was rapidly creeping up on us. After deciding where we'd stay the night, I decided to head down to the river, to see if I couldn't catch a last minute fish. To my surprise, I got two different species. After the sun completely set, we had a fire and then called it a night. Early next morning, our good friends Jonah, his dad and Sean showed up. We had arranged to float a long ways down river with the goal to attempt to catch some fish along the way. Stay tuned to see how the rest of the day panned out!

      @MainstreamAngling cool! I'll keep a lookout for it. My mom sent me this video, because we wanna go for walleye, but haven't had much luck recently. She's pretty much my mentor for fishing, though my uncles in Newfoundland introduced me to it when I was 8. I hope they're hungry when we arrive!

      @@rickandmortyfan649 Very cool! Fishing is a great activity to do with family! For the walleye your best bet is to fish the deep pools by slowly hopping a 3 inch swimbait along the bottom. Best of luck out there!

    Awesome video guys! Gets me pumped up for summer. One thing you might want to note for future fishing on the Red Deer River, bait is illegal upstream of Tolman bridge, including those scented Powerbait Power Minnows you’re using (aside from maggots, which are allowed so people can fish whitefish). Would you guys have caught as many with unscented ones like Jackall? Almost definitely, but just wanted to make sure you guys, or anyone watching your videos, don’t get fined if CO’s roll up on you and you’re unaware.

    • @MainstreamAngling
      @MainstreamAngling  4 місяці тому

      Absolutely! Gonna be having to get back out to the Red Deer River soon! All the plastics I used in the video were unscented. However I appreciate you bringing this to my attention!

    Are there any fish you can keep in that river?

    • @MainstreamAngling
      @MainstreamAngling  3 місяці тому

      The regulations are based on the location pf where you are fishing the river. But downstream from a certain area there becomes an open limit for pike and walleye. And I believe that you can keep goldeye everywhere. I’m m glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for commenting!

    Landing nets are worth their weight in gold...keeps angler's fingers out of the fish's gills

    • @MainstreamAngling
      @MainstreamAngling  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree in the usefulness of landing nets, we had forgotten ours. But with that being said, the way we held the fish was perfectly fine. I agree to not touch the gills as it could result in the fish having respiratory problems in the future. However, the way I was holding the walleye was by the gill plate, which does not harm the fish at all. I’m a big believer in conservation and I have quite a bit of experience holding fish like this. I appreciate your concern for the fish but I assure you they were all release very well.
