Important things to know before visiting Paris - 2024 Paris guide
Thank you for the delightful video. The past two Novembers, I have found great deals from Chicago to Paris and found a VERY inexpensive Airbnb in Le Banlieu both times. You have many good tips, and the next one I will do for next time is to buy Le Metro tickets on a Navigo card. I am wary of the sidewalk cafes and still have not tried one, but I love the street food such as crepes and kebabs. In Clichy, I stumbled on a place called "Flunch" last year and have had the same marinated beef pie (forgot the name of it) with their scrumptious salad bar all three times. Next time, my trip will be for months instead of just a couple of weeks.
Hi, Are you a local travel guide?
We don't run our own tours but we suggest some amazing tours and guides i this section of our site: loveandparis.co/category/paris-tours-experiences/
Good video ... I really looked at taking the RER B into Paris but with luggage I don't want to use the Metro to get the final mile to the hotel. Trying to drag luggage onto the metro in the morning is not my idea of fun. Plus there are steps to deal with at many of the Metro stations and it also won't get us all the way to the hotel. So you might be right about the taxi being the better way to go door-to-door in this case. I had thought about taking the RER B to Gare du Nord and then catching a taxi for the last bit to the hotel, thinking it might be faster but it's likely the part of driving through Paris that is going to be the slow part anyway. Last year when we did a bicycle tour in the Cotswolds we stayed in London for 4 days ahead of the tour. We took a hotel right next to Paddington Station so taking the Heathrow Express to Paddington was the easiest way. Then walk 200 feet to our Mercure Paddington hotel. Not quite so simple in Paris. I guess we could just stay in a hotel around Gare du Nord but other videos I've watched said that area is a bit sketchy. The hotel I want to stay in is in Arrondissement 7 near Rue Cler. The RER B won't help there, going to need to take a taxi anyway so might as well just take it from the airport and be done with it.
You might as well just book a taxi, much easier! We recommend this company for reliable, pre-booked taxis in Paris: www.book-online-transfers.com/en/loveandparis-airport-taxi
We just returned only last week, our plans were slightly dampened by the weather but it did not stop the fun. We can't wait to return in the new year.
Ah we're so glad to hear you had a great time!!
Great update, Lynn!
Thanks 🌟🥰
Thanks for watching! :)
Loved the video! All the information I needed was here! But I confess I had to prepare an expresso and an energy drink to keep my ears on the same rhythm with the beautiful and intelligent presenter!
Well thanks for watching anyways! You could always use the "speed" setting to slow down or speed up any video you watch on UA-cam!
Amelia, I was just in London 3 months ago and having to learn how to use the Tube. Where I live in the U.S. there isn't a good metro system so it was pretty new to me. The London Tube system was, as the Brits say, bang easy. What I really liked is that you could simply pay as you go with a tappable credit card! I could have bought an Oyster card and pre-loaded money onto that but then how much do I load? 20 Pounds? 30? I don't know. Say I load 30 and only use 20, then I have to deal with getting the unused 10 refunded somehow. Being able to use a credit card eliminates all of that mess. I see I'd have the same issue using the Navigo card ... how much to pre-load. But it appears with the Paris Metro there isn't an option to just pay per ride with a credit card. In my mind that is a +1 for the London Tube over the Paris Metro!
The good news is that it's very easy to load up more rides on the Navigo card via the app we mentioned :) Thanks so much for watching!
0:22 how about Paris Orly airport
Big Tip. The Metro is not mobility friendly. Lots of stairs. The RER system is accessibly by escalator or elevator at all stations. Also, you can take the RER from CDG as an express. The last station at CDG is Terminal One; the next station in Paris is Gare du Nord. This skips several local stations, which is great.
RER trains are generally very nice, especially the ones on RER D.
Big Tip. Visit Paris in the winter. No one is there. The Louvre Museum is practically empty. The weather is great, only a little bit cold. And if you get lucky like I did once, it might snow. It might sound corney, but Paris is very, very beautiful in the snow. Winter visit. The Christmas decorations are great, in particular, the window decorations at the big department stores. And last, every one of all ages look great in winter clothes; few people look great in a thong. But even fewer look great wearing a fanny pack, cargo shorts, and a Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt. Black winter clothes and a scarf are classic.
We go every January. Love it.
November is pretty good, too especially for airfare from O'Hare directly to CDG.
Merci beaucoup!
De rien!
It's actually easier than presented. I've lived in Paris off and on for more than a year and a half and I've NEVER needed an app. The maps work quite well and the Paris Metro is so logically laid out!
It's super easy once you start to know the lines etc. but the online maps can help with the best route!
The Promenade Plantee is another cool place Parisians like that many tourists don't know about.
I normally take uber but I will try and take taxi now. €65 is not bad. You are so right, the last time my Uber driver was lost for a good 30 mins. It seems like he doesn’t know where the airport arrival was. Never again. Thank you for making this video
Slower phase next time please. You're in the train already, we're still buying tickets 😂😂 Helpful tips anyway. Thanks!
OH!!! SLOW DOWN, PLS. THANKS
Thanks for your feedback! We will pass this on. In the meantime, you can alter the playback speed to slower if that helps 💙
As a Parisian, the most important one is to pay attention to your environment! The pickpocketters are easily spottable once you know the "standard behavior" in the metro and if they see you noticed them, either they will flee or change target. You can have things in your pocket (I always have), but only in the front pocket of the pants (their opening is less wide and more complicated to force). NEVER EVER put anything to your back pockets
Thank you for your great tips....❤
What are some behaviors to look for ?
@@JatinBhatiancsu Pickpockets act in gangs, usually with little on them (a shoulder bag at most). They are rather young and of Eastern European appearance, some group of girls are very well known by police or RATP agents. Isolated cases not corresponding to this can also be seen but they act more by sticking and putting their hand in the pockets / bag. Or by stealing the smartphone just before the doors close. If you're Asian, I also recommend protecting your camera if you wear it around your neck.
A group of tanned eastern european girls dressed in a missmatched way in real early mid 2000's clothing looking around or seemingly scanning their surroundings is an instant avoid and clutching of the pearls lol @@JatinBhatiancsu
Bravo - wonderful video! - and agree with all the advice #AlwaysRERForMe
100%, you know!
The last time I bought a ticket for the train into Paris from the ticket machine I remember that you had to use coins. At that time they didn’t take paper euros. Has that changed?
Think you can use paper notes now!
Im aslo feel the speach is speed , ❤
You can slow down the playback speed a bit. Set it to 0.75 and it's more like a normal rate. 😁
The fake taxi scammers at CDG are awful. The airport should put up signs pointing at where they stand directly on the way to the taxis that say "These are scammers, ignore them" 😆
Love the city been there city of love Will surely visit it once again
I would never trust the virtual tickets. I've seen peope have trouble validating and with Metro police vecause of phone service issues. Nothing beats a paper ticket or a Navigo card
I was waiting to know where is the place for Uber and bolt cos I was very confused…but looks like there’s no designated place and that’s really sad
Near the taxis, they call it "VTC Pickup". Extra confusing to find because there's a gauntlet of scammers just before you get to the right place.
@ ok thanks… the scammers were following us and it was really stressful…
@@sweetygeorge3214 That's terrible! They can be really pushy.
Is the video going form Paris to CDG coming? And the best ways if you have early morning flights out.
Just do the journey in reverse! You can use Google Maps to help with times and locations. Depending how early, you can get the bus or rideshare :)
@LoveandParis_ Not everyone starts at CDG coming into Paris. Will definitely use Maps.
What about the Air France bus? When I lived in Paris I used it all the time because the Air France bus that I used to take stopped at Porte Maillot and Place de l'Étoile.
No longer operates 😢
@@LoveandParis_ Oh, that's a shame! It was so convenient. I think there was also one that went to Montparnasse.
Thanks a lot, this was super helpful!
You're welcome!
My dear, if you want more subscribers, speak slowly. 😊
Thanks for your feedback, we will pass it along to the team 🙂
Could you please advise if you can get a larger taxi from CDG, for 4 people with 4 suitcases and the cost? TIA
We recommend Welcome Pickups for this. Just put in your details and they will provide a quote: www.book-online-transfers.com/en/loveandparis-airport-taxi
Yes. The taxi attendant will find a car suitable for your party. Just get in line and you will see the attendant directing the taxis and assigning parties to them. The cost is the fixed rate price depending on whether you are going to the left or right bank.
Thank you for thhe updates...much helpful
What about apps like Bolt for taxi. They are a lot cheaper too.
Yes, Paris does have Bolt too :)
Speak slowly to let people understand what you say.
Yes. The key word is slowly, not loudly. Some people tend to shout when they're trying to be understood 🙄
For me I needed faster so used 1.5 playback
You can change play speed. I am fine with 1.25
Thanks for your feedback! We will pass this on.
Thanks for your feedback! We will pass this on.
We were in Paris a few years ago and we were so disappointed with the food. Then we started to venture around smaller neighborhood streets and the difference was night and day.
wow, glad you ended up finding some great places!
Very useful…..probably shows how long ago i travelled but am assuming AIr France airport bus to Etoile no longer operates. I was a big fan of RER but as with London some underground connections are much less convenient than others …..Chatelet I recall being a very large station
We never saw any
My family is visiting Paris in Dec with 3 toddlers. Will bring a stroller as obviously they will get tired walking. Pros and cons of bringing one?
Many Métro stations don't have a lift, so you'd be taking the stroller down plenty of stairs if you choose that travel option. Some streets/tourist destinations are also quite busy, but there will always be room for a stroller, so if you think it will be easier - definitely take one :)
@LoveandParis_ Merci!
thank you for showing La Villette. i have always wanted to visit this place but wasn't so sure. thanks
Any time! We hope you get to go
Thank you for a great video. Super helpful tips!
You are so welcome!
Thanks, great info!
No worries! Glad it was helpful :)
I’m sorry you’re speaking too fast that I could not enjoy the video 😢
Thanks for the feedback 💙
Dont eat if they basketwork chairs out front a rule for most European cities.
Boulangeries : fine for buying bread etc. But it is bad manners to eat walking.
So let’s just keep secret places secret, for crying out loud.
we are here to help you explore like a local 😉
Thank you, I understand where you are coming from, but I already explore Paris like a local, having crisscrossed the city on foot, by bus and le Metro many times over. I prefer the sense of satisfaction I get when I make my own little discoveries, tho’ obviously there is a place and a demand for what you do. Ah well, to each their own. Bonne chance et bonne journée🍷!
is paris worth it? I heard amsterdam is better
I mean, I think we are a bit biased to answer that, but... PARIS 💙
So many better cities in Europe to visit with far less scammers
unfortunately, they are everywhere...
Hi, We have a 2 days plan to visit paris next month end. Do you have any suggestion or guide us those 2 days. We're 9 people actually.
Hi! We have plenty of ideas for things to do in Paris in this section of our website: loveandparis.co/category/paris-things-to-do/
Bonjour, Amelia! In your explanation of the 1-4 lines, you said something that I could not understand. Had to use to CC and it read, "three bis". Frankly, what are these? THANKS!
Bonjour! It's one of the metro lines that are further out. If you're just visiting - it's likely you probably won't encounter it 🙂
@@LoveandParis_ Thank you!
We bought a variety of pastries there that were super delicious. (And am a frequent visitor, returning to Paris annually.) Their millefeuille was one of the very best I've ever tasted.
So glad to hear!
Great tips! Just one comment: we would never call the "Saint Ambroise" quarter by this name, for Parisians it only refers to the metro station. Except for a few of them, we mostly never use the administrative quarters' names. They are basically used only by the police. For us this portion of the 11th arrondissement is known as "Oberkampf", the main street in the area and the name of its southwestern metro station.
How did we miss the cheese museum on our last trip? Now we need to go back. Thanks, Amelia!
You won't regret it!
