The Sheriff's advice for Home Defense
Howdy Sheriff. I'm torn between picking up a 357 lever gun or an EXTAR EP45 for my next firearm. I just watched your video on the Rossi 92. Between the Ruger/Marlin and the Rossi, do you think the premium for the marlin is worth it?
Thank you for the video. Shotguns are a true weakness of mine... Have been since I was 12 and my Dad & Grandad bought me a Remington Wingmaster in 20 gauge from the local Western Auto (yes, I'm that old... It was before the World went absolutely scooters) so I could go field hunting with them. I can tell you this, out of all my collection now at age 59, my first choice as a grab-&-go firearm is my Browning BPS Micro-Midas model 12 gauge with a 20 inch barrel, mag tube extension and Tru-Glo fiberoptic sights on the rib (all added after the fact by me). It has an all steel receiver, double action bars, wood furniture, TANG safety (the way GOD intended!!)... Plus it loads AND ejects from the bottom (like an old Ithaca 37) so if you're a Southpaw no problem!! I've run everything from Mini-shells to 3" turkey Magnums without a single misfeed on it for ten years and counting!!! I wish everything and everybody in my life was that reliable!!!!
Is your barrel 223 wylde, or 5.56?
@@brettdoney1307 5.56
Awesome video I like the 27 pellets buckshot. That is what I got in mine
I have no problem with Glocks, I carried the G22 for work eighteen years. I own a Glock 45. But for a conceal carry I chose the Sig P365X macro. It has better sights comes with cut out for optic if you want one but it has 17 round magazines. And it is around same size of the 43x.
I’m intrigued on the 32 now
Good video. We have a Mossberg 500 with #8 bird and a Maverick 88 with rifled slugs. That birdshot can lose its lethality after passing through drywall is a factor in these decisions. The slugs are for anything otherwise.
Life is more important than law. If Harris gets elected on Tuesday citizens in record numbers are going to carry with or without a permit. This will be out of fear for their safety.
Lacks enough ammo, as even you were trying to run it, when it was OUT.
get an AR-15 far superior and safer for home defense
Thanks for the update! Praying for you and full healing in Jesus name! ✝️🙏 I received a miracle in my back and love praying for others for the same blessings! New learner to all things guns to protect myself as a woman! God bless you!
Living on a farm and in the country might be different from living in the city.
Just bought this rifle. Can’t wait to get it out on the range next weekend. Great vid👍
what a wind-bag
I am forced to use black powder .45 revolver. So I keep all my black powder guns loaded and ready to go. Total of 4 guns equaling 16 shots. I live in a small apartment and won't miss.
Active NY LEO here. I love my 19, but there's just something convenient about a snub nose. I have a 22 mag S&W snub nose I intended for the Mrs, but turned into just a range toy. I stumbled upon this video because I wanted something small and concealable I can keep at my vacation home, stronger than my 22 mag, but soft enough for the Mrs to be able to handle. I had my reservations about Taurus, but after this video, I might just get myself one for Christmas. Thank you for the video!
Inside your house... low base bird shot in 12 or 20 guage will do just fine...and you won't kill your kid on the other side of a sheet rock wall with it either. a shorter stock ( youth model or cut down) gets you easier handling, and allows a bit longer barrel. do not discount a single shot shotgun either.
Too much recoil. Follow ups too slow . Ar all day
Most encounter in home defense situations would be about a 8 to 15 ‘ distance , there you are trying on a paper target at about 50’ , that’s a much different spread , I would load 3 birdshells first and then 00 .
I just bought a mossburg 500 20 guage. 22" barrel length, 39.75" overall length. Im female so I was wanting one thats shorter and lighter. I got it strictly for home defense. What kind of ammo should I get for it? Ive been told different things by different people so Im thoroughly lost.
I attended one of the several NRA Law Enforcement Instructor schools at the Sheriff's Department in Mexico, MO in 2011.
@peterkolovos3079 I was in one of the 2007, and one of the 2010, and one of the 2013 classes. I would have been there every day for every class though, as I would have been the range master during that time.
Actually, no glasses on 😂
You have covid, don't spread it, it isn't necessary.
A 32 makes holes. Holes are bad.
Thank you - that grip tipping out is a deal breaker for me. The elastic in the middle of the back and the back strap are real positives, so I wanted to like this. Rattling is something I wouldn’t have thought of but would really bug me.
Whole lotta common sense here.
You ejected the first shell out before you started shooting nthats 7. And your a sheriff
What about the .32+20 Winn?
I had a Big Boy in 327/32 H&R . It ran like a top with the 327 and hung up occasionally with the H & R just like yours did. Like an idiot I traded it.
Wendell Nickerson here. Just found your channel. I carry the same model in stainless. Lt Joe and I live in Omaha where I retired.
Thank you sir I really enjoyed your video I live in Edmondson Missouri by Lambert Airport
Saw one in the gun store the other day. They were asking 1088.99 Not exactly a budget price for a budget gun. I have a Henry that I love and I had a Winchester 94 but let my neighbor talk me out of it. The only thing i didn't like about it was the loop lock. I love the look of the Rossi but the price is keeping me away from it.
I read years ago that 00 to 4 buckshot is good for self defense. But you have to go out and train and make sure you know what you particular shotgun does. Every single one is different. I suppose a super computer could model all the variables of multiple pellets going down a barrel banging each other smashing the barrel scraping the lead balls ( get copper plated too) but since the barrel changes each shot I doubt it. So take the gun out and try it out and KNOW what it does. Its vital. Garand thumb did a big video on buckshot and bird shot.... Just choose Buckshot 00 to 4 and your are covered. If you are pulling the gun out for social purposes you've no time to fool around. Oh also know that what you have IN and/or ON the gun is all you'll likely to have for that encounter. So... Get a side saddle or a card etc. Oh and a light too because unlike the bad guys we have to KNOW what we are shooting so...
Every state in the Union has the Castle Doctrine.
Agree brother 👍✌️
27 leaks, that's a lot. Great line. In my home the distance isn't nearly that far......not that much spread.
Joe Biden famously said to get a shotgun for home defense. He was HEAVILY ridiculed by right-wing gun nuts... but he was right.
I wish that people would throw away the word "need". The question is not, "Why do I need a permit?" In a permitless state, you DON'T need one. The question should be, "Why is a permit recommended when it's not necessary?"
Over 2500 rounds through mine in 6 months. Broke the extractor, Springfield Armory replaced it (warranty) and she runs fine. My weekly shooter.
I agree with you 99% you are a professional right on the money
00 Buck works too! I’ll pick up some #4 shot!
I guess none of that advise applies to me, as I am living in Canada and here, if you hurt your home invader with your fingernails, you're in deep trouble...
I try to make the most of both worlds. On my bedside table is my S&W Governor loaded with 3 rounds of .45 Colt and 3 rounds of 410 Hornady Critical Defense. And leaning against my bedside table is a 5+1 auto loading shotgun - 12 Ga 00 Buck. I have a Mossberg Shockwave I used to keep in the bedroom but when I bought the autoloader it got moved into my truck supplementing my .45 1911 as another truck gun. I also have a Stoeger coach gun (12 Ga SxS) I keep in another room in case I absolutely need it. Agree, shotguns make so much sense for home defense yet seem to be left out of most media discussions on the subject.
Thanks for the update, I am sure that we all appreciate it. Fun watching you working out with Apollo . Good boyeee.
Glad your doing well. Enjoyed a nice day in Mexico recently. Had VA appointment, went to Grafs and had breakfast at Stacey’s. That was some good grub.
@@AMXSShirt Great place for breakfast. I hit Stacey's quite often for coffee with the old guys that are there every morning. Big table in the front room corner - I call it the "Old Ba$tard's section".........
@@SheriffMattOller if I ever run into you, coffee is on me (for all the old guys)
Our man Apollo moves great for an old semi retired guy!
if you are most likely under attack : don't drink any alcohol and install a burglar alarm
It's this and the previous video that put me over the edge to buy mine. I think it's the most accurate shooting gun I have. Very pleased.
Also thanks for updating us I was wondering about you the other day and then you posted several videos. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
Did this change the way you currently carry your edc
@@rds479 it did for the first couple of months. Now I can wear belt holsters again with no problems.
