BIB Tech Talks: Forging TPU
I needed to get these mounts shipped out, so I threw this together real quick.
All the durability testing I performed was on the finished product and not samples, but I do plan on doing a proper materials testing video in the future.
I have not perfected this technique as there are already improvements I'll be making on the next bushing design. Mostly in regards to molding in place.
Please feel free to spark a conversation! I'd love to learn anything I can from expert printers, injection molders, and bushings makers!

Impressive work! I've been 3D printing for about 8 years but never saw this car application coming. I've made myself a few car accessories but nothing as highly loaded as a torque reaction mount! I'm guessing that's what the Acura part is, looks about right given IIRC that car has a transversely mounted engine and there's usually a similar mount to the front sub frame.

@@ГригорийЛапшин-н1ц I mean, if you compare them to deflected disc there may be fewer part numbers counting a large disc stack, but there are significantly more engineered parts inside a spool and the tolerancing required to pull it off makes it extremely expensive. Super impressive man! Thank you for walking through this design, I was immediately interested from a Reddit post of yours. Super unique use case but if the performance is there, there could be plenty of other use cases. Wonder if attempting to patent the process is possible, but very unsure if there’s anything proprietary here… Great work, hoping to see the next leg of your journey when you get there & hear more about your time with Ferrari. Well done 🤘🏼

I also considered it for patenting, but it is a bit too general, and honestly I feel like it would be too much work on my end tracking violations down while also hindering developers from pushing more boundaries.

I still expect these to only last a few years since they're not rock solid and not rubber, but they'll have very consistent performance over that time period. The inner metal is over an inch in diameter instead of 14-16mm steel sleeve the bolt goes through. Much more area to load the PU so that should also help durability of the softer rates.

I used to design and test tires as part of my job. It only hurts the tires if they're under their glass transition temperature and get driven on. I'd expect the glass transition temp for a tire like these to be around 15-20F, but the car doesn't move. None of the internal structure can sheer when it's crystalized if there's no fast cyclic load being applied to the tire. They should do just fine! But I also don't pay much for these tires and will be going through quite a few sets as soon as its running lol.

SUPER Interesting topic !! im loving the video series. I have a question my car has bad counter steering, most of the time a have to pull the steering wheel back to center and it kinds of annoys me. im used to german cars, in which at virtually any speed you can let go of the wheel and it returns back to center. So, what I did was, installing a 30mm front offset on the lower ball joing (MacPherson) . KPI already looked good, but the balljoint tilted it a little bit more, I corrected the camber via a cam bolt on the strut/knucle. But it didnt completely solved the problem, I think I need a offset top hat to add more caster and also center the wheel on the wheel well. I have looked under a 3rd gen VW Passat and its strut in nearly vertical and the car still counter-steers perfectly. maybe its because I still have 175 tires and high offset wheels ~40mm. Can you tell me what you think is the problem here ??? maybe my steering rack is too tight, but my steering feels light still

For reference what is the year and model of your car, modifications, the exact OE tire and wheel size, and current wheels and tires?

None of what I'm doing is required to run awd. I'm doing this to make a big improvement to the handling potential of the suspension!
