Actually Engel coolers are the original roto-molded cooler

I like that you mentioned the nylon webbing handle. Rigid cooler handles are a huge pain in a tightly packed trunk. This thing slips out easily, either with the webbing handle or the two recessed grab areas on the sides, and the smaller footprint takes up less space in the trunk or backseat. The other big selling point for me (aside from the Yeti reputation for quality and performance) was the internal height. I wouldn't get a cooler that couldn't fit a wine bottle vertically. This was the only cooler that I was able to find in the 20-25 quart range that could do that.

Have you noticed the bottom exterior getting very cold from the ice? Whatever it's sitting on becomes very cold from the cold coming off the bottom of the cooler. Makes me think it's not working as good as it should.

Sorry, maybe it's just the sentimental value, but the best cooler I've found is an old Igloo with metal hardware that my grandparents bought long ago. Over 40 years of camping and parties, and still going strong. That and my grandfather's Stanley thermos are two of the best everyday examples of "they don't make them like they used to".

For igloo, you can add some foam insulation sheet inside on the bottom.

My cooler still has ice in it after 2.5 years how may you ask? The answer it location location location

The Igloo had the least amount of insulation on top, where the sun hit the most. If shielded with a piece of newspaper on top with an air gap in between, it would perform much better. The best and lightest insulation would be what the Stanley cup uses.

The Yeti simply isn’t for everyone, so it makes sense to spend the money if you have a need for ice retention while sacrificing capacity. A cooler with less insulation is good enough for most people who just need it for a day at the beach.

We live in Florida and have Yeti 20 & 65 during storms we want the coolers to keep our life support item cold when we don’t have access to stores , we’ve been very happy with our Yetis 🏝️

For excursion into no man land for weeks, none of this cooler will stack up against cheaper, better, and smarter 12vdc fridge. Have been using expensive ARB fridge in my truck for years but Amazon has crap load of fridges that works better than Yetti and much more functional that keep your ice cream hard for weeks, or perfect temperature for beer and T-bone steak when you arrived at your remote destination. My fridge has 2 chambers; one for frozen meat, ice cream, and frozen vegetable at -20degF, the other chamber is for can fruits, fresh vegetable, and drinks at 34degF all for less than $200. Did I mentioned the fridge can talk to your smart phone for power on/off, temperature control, voltage of your battery?

Take any decent cooler, COVER IT with a thick, doubled up old blanket so the outside temp does not touch the coolers body.. you'll extend your ice time even more, just for using an old blanket.

unless you're going to be 50 miles from anywhere... another bag of ice is only a few bucks !!

I bought my husband two Yeti Tundras different sizes for Christmas and birthday and he loves them. Saved a whole lot of $$$ when my freezer died and my coolers kept my meat for daze!!!
