I did this mod years ago I was wiping out water pump seal did a flush caught the fluid in a swimming pool and the bottom of the pool was full of sand put a filter on it within a month it was plugged haven’t had a issue with water pump since I change the filter about once a year now just to do it
Just bought an 01’ 7.3…going to install the S&B on it…what other upgrades do you recommend for my rig…going to use it for hotshot towing…thanks boss!
@@BayouBoyOutoorsCongrats! I would 100% buy a hydro tuner. Night / day difference. Since you’re doing hotshot I’d also buy a CTS3 to track your engine diagnostics/temps as well as buy a MIshimoto transmission cooler (2x the original size and it fits perfectly). You’ll thank me later for this setup!
@@73LiterTruckStuffWhat modes do you recommend to make a 7.3 louder and whilst more but still stay relabel
@@Nubako463 For a stock turbo the wicked wheel is a solid mod. Labor aside it’s inexpensive compared to a new turbo, creates a great sound and more HP from a stock platform.
Don't rev it up right after you start it or you'll end up having to replace it again... Give it 30 seconds or so for the oil to reach all the vital parts on a warm day and at least a few minutes on a cold day! At least if you value that new engine! You don't do that with a gas engine and you don't do it with a diesel, revving an engine up right after you start it shows the whole world you're a rookie! Do yourself a favor don't be a rookie in that sense...
Where'd you go bud. I just found your channel and going down the 7.3 rabbit hole. I also have a 01 F350.
😲...so im copying your truck. I also bed lined my entire 02 f350 😎👍
Hell yeah dude! That’s awesome!
How is this coolant tank holding up
Tanks holding up great but it has yellowed. I have a Mishimoto metal tank that I’m going to install
Thank you
Why a 203 thermostat?
So the engine was designed to run at 203 but when Ford dropped them in the trucks they made a few modifications and one of those was a lower temp thermostat. It’s commonplace these days to replace the thermostat for the originally designed 203 degree thermostat
@@73LiterTruckStuffis there an issue with running a lower temperature thermostat? I just ordered mishimoto lower temp which runs at 189…now I’m second guessing the purchase.
@@joshuafoster6764 No not at all my man. One of the adjustments that Ford did to the (tractor) engine when putting it in the truck was the thermostat. The engines were apparently developed to be ran with a higher temp then Ford put in the engines so dudes are swapping them out now is all.
I am surprised to see the fuel bowl in your intake valley.
Yeah it’s a larger upgrade that in time I’d like to replace for sure
Thank you for your video. I didn't know that S&B made an air intake for the 7.3
Welcome and I’m very happy with it as well.
Have you changed your Radiator yet? I'm getting ready to upgrade to a 100% Aluminum type
I haven’t added a new one yet. I have a Mishimoto trans cooler and I wanted to add a Mishimoto radiator at the same time.
"...for all those things to 'miracle' together?" Seriously? lmao. I mean, I get it; it's an air flow restriction. But being in park in freezing weather with a cold motor at idle is a miracle? Really? Nice rig by the way.
😂 I happen to love my sense of humor! Thanks for watching man! PS- it’s 80 degrees on Halloween weekend in VA. Not one AIH in site 😂
Definitely worth buying! Put one of these bad boys in my truck this weekend and I can easily do burnouts now 😎
Yeah she’s one of the best upgrades I’ve done to the truck
Don't like it looks like crap
Then make a better video and show me what right looks like stud…

Does that reflector get damged very easily while hooking up to trailer ?
It’s been a couple years and I’ve towed a bunch of cars and it’s still going strong. The only thing that changed is the black finish has shifted more into a faded OD Green color. Hitch still looks badass and works fantastic all around.
I just installed one today . Huge improvement over factory . Woke the old girl up and she sounds great
I’m so glad to hear you had the same experience as I did!
If you live in northern climates . Don’t do this mod . Unless you like smoking out the neighbourhood.
Hey Paul! Appreciate the comments, keep ‘em coming. I will say I didn’t see a difference in the smoke but then again I put in a remanufactured engine in a short while back so that may be helping things
replace the arm the spring is wore out , it happened to me
I used the code eliminator as instructed I'm still getting a code ??
I run my 7.3 in Alaska. Those rare criteria you listed for the AIH to be activated are pretty much every day for me half the year. The thing is tho....I still smoke up the neighborhood for 10 mins while she warms up. I dont imagine that little heating element does much to warm the huge volume of air that engine sucks in.
Yeah I agree. Imagine it was either an EPA concession of sorts or a good-idea-fairy gone wrong… either way it had to go 🤣
What did you notice for mileage and performance improvement? Not interested in the looks under the hood. Thanks!
I absolutely noticed a performance increase and better fuel mileage and it already had an aftermarket air filter before. S&B gave me nothing for the vid, I bought the filter as a regular dude and still love it so I highly recommend.
@@73LiterTruckStuff Thanks Much!

I start from all the way down to the flame and rebuild from flame up
I regretted doing this with fiberglass wrap immediately afterwords. it got small fiberglass fibers all over engine bay and on me every time i worked on my truck, so itchy. so i got some 5.9 diameter pvc shrink tubing and put 2 layers over the wrap and heat gun shrank it, and it it sooooo much better. no more fiber glass issues.
I will say I haven’t had the same experience. This specific wrap even held it’s color which I didn’t expect. I’ll take the wins where I can get them 🤣
Just curious but what was the total cost of the reman 7.3 and labor to pull out the old one and install the new one ?
Literally the price of the truck. I had the option to spend 2k and put all back together and try and sell it at a loss or spend what was the amount I paid for the truck for it to have a brand new engine with some bells and whistles strapped on it. I said screw it and got the new motor because I love this truck.
bowl valve
I agree better to have a filter to catch debris than to allow it to continue to accumulate. Love the Ford Blue 👍👍.
Appreciate you!!
So what did you do to gain more clearance from the power steering pump bolt that rubbed the pipe? Also where did you get that rubber seal on the back of your truck between the bed and tailgate?
Chuck, thanks for reaching out and i appreciate your support. The original wrap was much thicker then the blue wrap that I installed so that bought me some space and I ensured I adjusted the pipe just enough when I was clamping it down that it wasn’t rubbing after this install. As for the rubber seal, that was actually an Amazon purchase! Super easy install.
Has the Blue wrap faded white ?
@@chuckparson6712 Belive it or not, it’s held it’s color really well.
@@73LiterTruckStuff Do you have a link to buy it through your channel ?
Do you know the difference between a e99 and a late 99 7.3 ?
I feel like there’s a follow-on question you have to this comment
I don't have that type of release clip on my 2002 F350... in fact, I couldn't find a release clip at all...and now it's starting to rain. Will have to research further. Your video was quite easy to follow, but my wiper arm is not like yours.
Dorman 42647 Front Driver Side Windshield Wiper Arm Compatible with Select Ford Models a.co/d/8XchLQg
Quick check on Amazon for a 2002 ford f350 showed Dorman (not OEM) had drivers & passenger side wiper arms in stock & they are the same type as mine. Hopefully these fit your truck.
How come u had the turbo whistle like that? It sounds more like a 6.0 ...Is there something u did with the turbo or replaced it ? Plus u got great sense of humor non filtered 👍🏻😊
Appreciate ya! I have a “wicked wheel 2” inside the stock garret turbo and an S&B air intake with a 5 inch straight pipe exhaust. Makes for some great sound.
Any new videos of 7.3 coming up soon?
That’s the intent!
I had the same problem with mine rubbing against the power steering pump. I wound up buying a new pipe from Riffraff and wrapped it. Avoiding all the mess.
I really do love riffraff products. Paying a premium premium price for a premium product is the right answer if you’re into the build for the long and quality haul
@@73LiterTruckStuff I think I have about every part Riffraff offers for my 01 7.3. Just got done with the CS2 tuner and gauges. It shows boost, EGT, fuel pressure, oil pressure and coolant temp.
@@vincebotkin1960 Gettin nothing for this from RiffRaff I can tell you that.... I feel the same way! ha! There have been times I've bought RiffRaff parts and realized later I didn't need them because I had already bought the parts from another manufacturer and just hadn't installed them yet, ha! Great company tho- I love what they stand for.
I'm just now watching this video 2022. I hope it works for me brother I have a 2002 f 250 7.3 same windows issue rolls down but it does not roll up. I just ordered the parts from O'Reilly should get it tomorrow.
Dude, best of luck. The only other thing it could be is if the electronics are pinched in the door jam area. So if the windows work with the door open and not when the door is closed, you have to crack open the boot the electrical wires run to from the dash to the door and repair the frayed wires. Starting with the switch though is a great place to start.
Talk to much

@@73LiterTruckStuff what is the proper way to mix it. Because my 99 7.3 says I should mix it 50/50. Im assuming you mix it with water. So 50% coolant 50% water?
4 in stainless steel no Hub bands. Discard the rubber and you're all set. Put one over the dimple from the nut to protect it they look good too. Can get them anywhere plumbing supply Home Depot Lowe's check it out
Appreciate that feedback for sure. Great idea, I’ll look into that ASAP!
Having trouble with all 4 windows not working, checked relay is good.....in the past I have had a delay with the radio, and windows working....any ideas
Suggestion would be to check the wiring harness at the hinge point of the door. Open the door, slide the plastic boot back to expose the wires coming from the cab into the door. Over time as we open/close the door, wires will break at that pinch point. Best of luck!
When you ran into this problem I'm thinking that why not just use hose clamps. Back in the '80s when we were rapping everything under the hood we would use stainless steel hose clamps and mechanics wire. There's a few tricks with the wire that holds just as well as a worm clamp. I love your theme under the hood. I have bled for blue since I was 16. 100 years later that's all I have. I'm getting ready to pick up another 7.3 next week that the body is in okay shape but the bed will have to be replaced or completely rebuilt. I was looking for a winter project and I came across a pretty good deal when I have f-350 with 200,000 MI and a 5-speed. It's the original owner and he has never done any modifications to the engine. So I'm planning on pulling it out and rebuild it over the winter and start messing with the body on nice days outside. I really enjoyed watching your video I made sure to give you a big old thumbs up and hit the subscribe button. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
Hey I really appreciate the engagement. I hope you have an amazing build and have as much fun as I have working on these rigs. More vids to come for sure.
Should’ve checked it before reinstalling it
Learning as I go!
So the most difficult steps, removing and attaching the bottom hose isn’t covered.
Appreciate the feedback Blake. I used a clamp tool, widened the clamp, slid it out of the way and pulled the reservoir right out. The same was true in reverse. Maybe my hoses and clamps were on the newer side but that part was a 60 second job for me. I do recommend the clamp remover tool, makes it way easier then needle nose pliers.
@@73LiterTruckStuff I ended up in pain using my fingers. But it worked, and then I felt very manly. LOL Edit: For those interested, lift the reservoir up enough to move the spring clamp down from the reservoir nipple, then work the hose loose being careful to keep it pulled up enough to prevent coolant from spilling out. There's enough give in the hose to allow that. Do the reverse when installing the new tank. Then curse the lame engineer who designed a built-in cracking mechanism in a cyclicly pressurized reservoir.
@@Blake4Truth Welp… that’s one way to do it! Great job gettin’ er done!
I noticed your windshield sprayers look like they have BPH (swollen prostate). Put some water with white vinegar in your spray reservoir and it should clear that up
TJ! Thank you for this feedback. Drivers side barely pushes fluid, passenger side is much better. I bought a gallon of “cleaning vinegar.” Questions: 1.) Do I need to syphon out the window washer fluid first? 2.) What’s the ratio of vinegar to water? 3.) Do I just keep the nozzles on spray for a while? Let it sit? Thanks again for the advice!
@@73LiterTruckStuff I installed new nozzles. Very simple and world of a difference. I wouldn't even bother trying to clean them
@@CHRIS_NYC Yeah I need to order up some nozzles, where did you get them from?
I also have that re-routed hose and that filter is right on it. I’ve noticed that filter gets pretty warm. Have you had any issues with that?
I haven’t had any issues at all with the Sinister Diesel coolant filtration system but you’re correct, she gets HOT! 😀
Hey just put it to you buddy but your mechanic screwed you, he forgot to drain the oil after the oil rails at the top of the block and so he cranked it up and blew your motor up with vaper lock those that promise you have was just an o-rings and then they ended up pouring oil into your block they did not spend it by hand to get the oil out and blew your motor that motor is bulletproof man you got screwed
Hope that’s not the case but always a possibility
I'm interested on the white fuel filter do you have a video so I coud install it thanks great video thanks
So what you’re seeing in the vid is a coolant filter that’s white. It’s made by sinister diesel and the white filter is made by wix. The oil filter I’m currently running in the truck is a K&N, also white, easy to get off and on because they add a notch at the bottom for a socket but moving forward I’ll go with Ford Motorcraft on most parts & fluids since these trucks prefer Motorcraft over anything else. Hope that helps.
Great video. Same issue here. Called O'Reilly and they have the same part for $112.00. Question...where did you get your front seat covers? Thanks again for your video.
Appreciate the support. Reference the seat covers, the ones I had on in that vid I think was a simple Walmart purchase 😀
@@73LiterTruckStuff nice. They look good.
Good video. Thanks for posting. I’ve got a 2003 F250 and the insulation in mine is even worse. What purpose does this liner even serve? I’m in AZ. My 2013 Ram 3500 doesn’t have a liner.
Crazy as it seems, the intent of the insulation is to keep the hood cooler so the hood paint doesn’t get negatively effected.
@@73LiterTruckStuff If that was the intent it didn’t work.
@@justinhayward42 Yeah… I hear ya there!
@@73LiterTruckStuff I have also heard that the reason for these blankets is to suffocate a fire, supposedly the pins will melt and allow the blanket fall onto the engine and that will at least control a fire till you can get to it. that's why the OEM ones are made out of fiberglass. Also to control the engine noise as these 7.3L engines are freaking noisy as all get out! Just what I have heard so take it for what it's worth.
@@bluesnake1747 Thanks for that info my man! I’m sure that’s correct as well!
Put "Ford" reman in mine... same black paint! Was forced to strip and repaint the turbo & pedestal, the intake pipe assy, the hpop and reservoir. Really brightened up that 7.3.
I would have loved to had the time and ability to spruce up the engine more before dropping her in
