Hot take but I prefer the third movie to the first one. Yea ik the third movie wasn’t really about patlabor and the main cast were background characters. But I think the overall plot was solid.

Me when i see extensive use of inbetween in modern anime and when people call it peak "Quality animation" Meanwhile 80-90s anime was just pure animation no inbetweens.

Whats more impressive is that, it was all done in traditional animation
