If you look at it as a stand alone game and ignore all the controversy behind it it’s objectively better then some older pokemon games such as yes red and blue

Idk why im leaving a review here but there it is. Saw some reviews saying PLA is better than Scarlet/Violet, everywhere i looked it said "PLA is amazing!" got it and played whole morning, and "spoiler" i realised game is never gonna get good... aparently there is a battle tower kind of thing after story that i cant be bothered to look up. 1st of all i apsolutely loved start of the game, this early world setting, setting up camp kind of deal and making impact on town progression, getting mons,mats and quests/requests are fine in my opinion, . Then i got to a part where i realised there is litteraly no battling even with competative move customization, everything youre doing is just throwing balls at random things in a half empty/full world and that is litteraly the extent of gameplay. Game is nothing but a very grindy demo test for their new game type, models and their 3D engine... Story is nice altho it can be a LOT of reading at times that can start feeling burdensome. Personally the lack of any battles makes the game pointless in my opinion becuse you have no real point to getting mons other than completing a list and im very very disappointed i got this game to get a grindy chore simulator, i dont play games to get home and do chores, get on a game and do more chores...Game is on a same level to Pokémon Snap to me, this is for someone who has too much time on their hands and doesnt respect it. They can like that, but my opinion stands

Great video, it's nice to see a more critical take on these games and to point out the glaring flaws. In my opinion, these games are _super_ overrated.

I’m glad to see someone ripping into these games as they are some of my personal least favourite Pokémon games and have many flaws people love to ignore.

I think you need to do a better job explaining your reasoning because you say a lot of subjective things objectively like they’re objective things. Most notably I have no idea what you consider good/bad amounts of grinding you said you thought some of the EV training stuff made grinding too easy but then you complained about every other grind being too much throughout the video.

I had fun with these games. I especially loved the big spectatle of the gym battles. The games are certainly not perfect, but no pokémon games are. I think in time people will appreciate these games like they did with black and white

The game while not perfect has tons of good ideas that need to keep realised in the franchise.

I just realised that Crystal is the ONLY third game to not change gym leader teams. Definitely a huge missed opportunity

Amother issue with the split path, is there is 100% a logical route to take because you get Fly after defeating Chuck. This saves you a tonne of backtracking. Interestingly, they nailed the split pathing in the first gen. I've played gyms 6, 7 and 8 in Yellow in different orders, for example, and it doesn't break the game. In contrast, there really is no reason to defeat Pryce before Chuck, aside from preventing Pryce from being a joke.

My three problems with the main game plus the DLC: 1 - there is no battle facility at the end. I only play solo so having accessing to all these cool things, making pokemon stronger with nothing to do with them in the end makes this experience feel worthless. 2 - the colors are too washed. This game looks really ugly and I bet if you put a mod to saturate the colors a bit you will make the game look better. 3 - the grind. There is just way too much grind, especially in the second part of the DLC. I have a life, limited time and so many games I want to play. I cannot spend hours in Pokémon SV just to grind some points to get another starter or to invite another professor to have someone to battle with. For me, the entire Pokémon SV package is a mixed bag.

We were angry at them for giving us so much content thats why they chose to barely give us anything in the switch era

Swsh - kind of bland but very enjoyable, artistic and gave much QoL. Bdsp- killed my soul PLA- revitalised my love for pokemon, so happy it exists, while not perfect. ScaVio- apart from the story (main game), suffer from tons of things that make the game unenjoyable to me, cant wait for the next game as i feel there is no way i will like it less than this. Pokemon models and story for the most part (DLC gave us almost NOTHING while it had so much potential) are what kinda salvages this tragedy....

I put the scarlet game cartridge recently into my switch and immediately remembered why I stopped playing that game. Thank you for this. This was my intuition. I did not buy the DLC. That turtle will show up in a future game eventually, maybe even Pokemon Go

Scarlet and Violet are not the best games in general. I'd much rather play Sword and Shield. The only Paldea Pokémon I actually like are Archaludon and Hydrapple, who are my two favorite Pokémon. Most Pokémon in Gen 9 are just reskins of older Pokémon.

The only thing I wish was different about the Indigo Disk was for the game to have you start from scratch. No items, no overpowered legendaries, nothing but you and some pokéballs. Catch your team, train them up and battle the Elite 4. I was so pleasantly surprised to see this idea present for Drayton's trial only to be disappointed when it was dropped for his battle.

I honestly enjoyed dlc a lot the sotry was good especially the mochi mayhem i was laughing the whole time. I didnt enjoy the story or gameplay of swsh dlc that much it was kinda weird only part i enjoeyd was the calyrex one. Personally sv is one of my favourite pokemon games with bw and hgss even though i dont have any nostalgia glasses for the older games i only played them on emulator but i still liked and i replayed them just before i got shield and later violet and i liked the changes in the newer games but i like open world rpgs so that kinda tracks i love that you can finally jump and i can go anywhere i can make a new route anywhere and i reallly like that you can skip trainer batlles and most importanly picking up items i hated in all of pokemon games when you pick up an item its stops you dead in your tracks and its kind of imersion breaking but in sv i actually pick up almost everything i see because it doesnt ruin the flow i have and the same goes for unskipable trainer batles

I wouldnt call it deceptively bad since absolutely nothing in it even interested me, s&v werent bad games at all but they killed my interest in pokemon.

I got the game and dlc for free so it's definitely more fun for me

not fixing johto level curve really hurt it

Very happy people are pointing this out about Gen 2. I've been replaying Gen 1 & 2 & after completing Blue & getting onto Silver, I did notice a massive change in unbalancing, specially with the level curve. Never noticed it that much as a kid but it's really stood out to me as of recent. Started to notice it when I got to the part with facing TR in the underground base thing. Facing level 18 Rattata's over & over when my team is mostly level 30+. It's just not fun & has no challenge. I guess it can benefit from getting into a habit with using weaker - lower levelled - Mons that have been recently caught in your team, to give some variety of growth & that. Which is what I ended up doing at that point. But the game just randomly throws higher levels at you & then have to revert back with the bulked team you've spent the whole game until that point working around. A lot of people who have these traditional play styles with these games will strongly dislike Gen 2 if they attempt to play the same way. Still had fun playing through it though. But yeah, I can see how we tend to let our nostalgia blind us from Gen 2's flaws.

I mean 12 y/o me playing this game didn’t give a damn and enjoyed every bit of the 300+ hours I put in on my first run. Adult me can agree with you but that’s the beauty man, these games were never intended for adults with higher thinking

I still think it's funny that people call you a contrarian for not liking hgss and pla even though you brought up legitimate reasons that I as a person who likes pla agree with. I can't really speak for hgss tho as I could never get into the game. The first 20 or so minutes or so was just non stop walking with there being only a single trainer battle. It was slower than usum imo

one obscure fact I know about this game is that if you release a Pokemon you obtain via password, they actually reappear back in the overworld for you to collect again! they aren't permanently gone, and you can collect them again :3 I love just running through the stages and seeing if I can find Legendaries, it's a shame my first file corrupted but I have a new file now which I completed yea I wish Shinies were in this game too, it'd make running through stages just that bit more exicting

They really did NOT have to restrict players to such a small arena, I feel what made the Rumble series so unique was the fact you could explore a bit and collect more toy Pokemon to add to your team. U just streamlines the experience way too much, basically.

If you are into Pokemon Games and u really want to play a brand new good and fresh game play Pokemon unbound, its a hackrom from third gen pokemon but a whole new story with lot of content and very difficult with a few game modes! its amazing and my fav hackrom game and it could be an original Nintendo pokemon game because its really well made

23:20 what do you mean couldn't do if they tried? Pokemon mega evolve for free in mainline games, they don't rely on some moxie mechanic, unless you're talking about unreasonable passive stat boosts which there are in totem battles in mainline. PMD kids always have to rub dirt in the eye of the main series when talking about PMD, when PMD owes everything to main series. And with that being said, I'll attack PMD. PMD is a snore fest of a game with tons of broken mechanics that you've already mentioned. pray tell how in the world is PMD harder than main series in this particular case when you can floor wipe entire rooms from the first step? You already mentioned this and you contradict yourself and say Pokemon are harder to fight here. I hope you realize that main series has its own rogue lite in the form of battle tower and other facilities that puts you in a situation where you can't rely on forcing your way through items, especially wands that can stack in PMD. You have to rely on raw strategy dealing with completely random encounters. Also the models fit the environment, they are stylized with them, there's nothing wrong with the 3D models in Pokemon games, 2D sprites in GBA games are blurry.

The fact that simply disagreeing with the popular opinion is enough for Pokémon fans to label someone as a contrarian shows that they see things in a very black nad white mindset. Like, have you considered that your favorite game/gameplay style does not work for everyone?

Also if you battle every trainer you meet the xp issue isn't that bit of a deal. I'd see it only being an issue if you skip trainer battles

Gen 5 had the absolute worst xp system barring black/white 2 in black tower or White forest

With how much everyone else seemed to love PLA, I wanted to like it too. But it just felt meh. I enjoyed bits of it. But the parts I disliked (like the fucking nonsensical battle system), really weighed on me. And frankly, I didn't like the game enough to actually finish it. Now I kind of want to boot it back up to see how I feel after a bit of distance, but rn I'm too busy doing stuff in the Pokemon games I actively enjoy.
