After THE OIL MACHINE: Transatlantic Discussion
On February 2nd, 2024 Bullfrog Films invited audiences to an exclusive screening and discussion for educators in the U.S. and Canada, featuring a compelling new documentary shedding light on our dependence on fossil fuels. During this event, audiences got to watch the full film, meet the makers and find out how to bring this program to their campus during the spring semester or Earth Month. This video is a recording of the live discussion after the film.
THE OIL MACHINE highlights the complexities of how oil is embedded in our society - from high finance to cheap consumer goods - and brings together a wide range of voices from oil company executives, economists, young activists, workers, scientists, and pension fund managers demanding change.
We are in the midst of offering a series of special academic screenings at US universities and colleges in partnership with Twin Seas Media. These events include screenings followed by virtual conversations with the Director, Emma Davie, Producer Sonja Henrici, and film participants such as Executive Producer James Marriott, who are based in the United Kingdom. Campus-wide stand-alone screenings, for which you create your own discussion panels, will also now be available.
THE OIL MACHINE is a powerful catalyst for meaningful conversations that raise awareness about the environmental impact of oil and plastics on our planet, inspiring dialogue and action. The film will strongly resonate with environmental studies programs, business schools, law schools, energy institutes, environmental policy and management, and sustainability initiatives on campus. With a global and UK focus, the film is deeply relevant to US audiences.

This is all a waste of time. In order to turn this around we need to deindustrialise and give up expanding economies. Personally, I am working on my flexibility so that I can kiss my ass good-bye.

Without the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, we would now have famine and war for food! Polar bears are increasing in number, great barrier reefs are growing at record levels, sea level rise is constant, deserts are decreasing, average life expectancy is increasing, fewer people are dying of cold, forest fires are decreasing, hurricanes are decreasing, etc. So what does science say is the ideal temperature? How much of the temperature increase is natural? Why is climate research controlled by political interests and money?

I don't have to be so careful. Global warming is being caused by human use of fossil fuels and other human activities. This anthropomorphic caused global warming is causing a change in the climate and weather events we experience.

Anderson states that severity of weather events in worsening. Yet look at hurricanes - the MOST severe of weather events. The pacific basin is down, while the Atlantic basin is in a cyclical EO surge in numbers. But 2023 has been an average hurricane season, despite all the caterwauling and media hype. Thus, Anderson is wrong.

Fossil fuels created the unprecedented economic growth that led to the anomaly that is the modern world. It's the modern world that keeps you safe from warming. Safe from everything. Meanwhile millions of people live in abject poverty. All climate policies induce further poverty. Poverty is a vastly greater threat than warming could ever be.

I think climate crisis needs to be addressed. However, I’m not sure methane and other gaseous hydrocarbons should be banned. All plastics are made of these compounds. Fertilizer can be Nader with these compounds. Certainly we should control emissions but they’re far too important to ban. Methane burns clean so the co2 from burning methane can be used to fertilize plants. The more important aspect is methane is naturally occurring and if the methane from melting tundra is harvested we can feed and fuel the world. It it’s banned then this melting tundra will just release its methane into the atmosphere, where it warms 80x faster than co2

I am the first American to serve a sentence for a nonviolent civil disobedience on the climate crisis(2009). It is sad that Sir David is unaware of the evidence presented by British PhD Dr John Campbell that excess deaths in the developed world have e skyrocketed since the COVID vaccine rollout. Does Sir David realize that pregnant women in the US who held certain jobs were mandated to receive the COVID vax even though the UK does not allow pregnant or possibly pregnant women to receive such?

To much S#1t....so littke time!! What crisis? What transition? What Clean sustainable energy? Look around EVERITHING you see is Carbon and Petroleum derivates...further more oil emissions represent only 0.015 % of all warming forces (Oceans and Soils boita respirantion ara many many times larger than oil emissions)...We have only extracted 0.4% of the volume and reserves I the planet...what we do not have enough so far are the minerals and rare earth metals. Electricity in only a part of the energy humans use. If there were any chance to transition to solar and wind we have already be "transitioning' if these industries exist is only to reap off SUBSIDIES!!! They themselves depend on oil and coal and gas to exist...just how dumb do you need to be to not know these simple FACTS!!

  • @williammykura2342

The transition to renewables will inevitably have overlaps with legacy oil and gas skills - offshore turbines, marine support activity etc - so there are many transferable skills. However the writing has been on the wall for oil & gas decline for the past 2 decades and the industry should be well prepared for the change. Legacy industry CANNOT be used to delay or obstruct the transition away from fossil fuels, and reference to ‘demands’ in this document is unhelpful. The industry should be well prepared for the change, and if not then redundancies and decline will inevitably follow.

This is all nonsense. Extreme weather events are lessening. That’s as you would expect if the world is warming because the temperature gradient between the poles and the equator is reduced. We are not heading for a three degree rise, that is only stated in the climate models which are just that, models. After monitoring the models for more than thirty years we see that the models are wildly exaggerated. And do they adjust the models to mirror reality? No. They just double down on the nonsense. If tipping points were a danger then why did we not suffer from them many times in the past when temperatures were higher than today? There is no climate emergency and there’s not going to be one.

Nothing has changed from 2001 except advances in extraction technology. Not finding more reserves but draining the reserves faster. The geology has been well understood for decades. New discoveries are rare small and expensive. Fossil fuels and most metals production will be in decline within a decade. The metals needed to transfer to low emissions are not available. Catastrophic global warming combined with declining fossil fuels supply. 95% of food production is fossil fuel input. Search camwest and why are we still building roads.

It is true what Sir David King says, this would be our only chance of survival, therefore there is not a snowballs chance in hell surviving this. And we are not talking about 2100! We are talking about near term, like 2023 October for this blue ocean event in the arctic, and then the methan bomb will go of because of latent heart effect and loss of albedo.
