VW T4 - Changing the Speedo/Dials Cluster (VLOG)

UPDATE: The flashing oil light was caused by a broken wire running from the “W terminal” on the alternator to the instrument cluster. This lets it know how high the engine is revving, and it uses this information to choose between using the high pressure oil sensor (above 2000rpm), or the low pressure oil sensor (below 2000rpm). This could also explain why the rev counter did not work, but I di...

How to Replace the Gear Stick Knob - VW T4
@2:42 Put a switch there, eee I am JUST old enough to remember an acumulater swith for the MAIN battery together with a crank to turn the engine over if you battery ever went flat.
The curtains look great 👍
Apart from the thermostat seal is there a thermostat housing seal?
Is this the 2.5tdi engine?
Joe from United States good job it was helpful
What if the pump just keeps spinning hence te belt wont hold it steady? Nevermind I figured it out, but it happens.
Can this same method be done with a lithium battery? Cause I’ve done this exact same method but only difference is that I have a life po4 200ah lithium battery. It worked for a short period of time, but now my voltage drops from 12.8v right down to below 11v within 10 mins of using anything that’s wired into it. I know sweet FA about electrics and this battery cost me about £400. Which if it only worked a handful of times, seems to be a complete waste of money. I need help 😩
Thank a lot ;-)
dude you are so funny I love your videos and I also learn a lot :D.
Joel, the others all said it well, thank you for your videos, you did an excellent job!
Thankfully i found your channel I've saved plenty plenty dosh to spend on some other things for my van thanks so so so much even though its been 6 years since you put up 😉
✨✨🤍✨
Brilliant straightfwd stuff 😊
hi, is the reason that you had to swap the connector of the high pressure line because you purchased the 7D0 422 155 F and your one was the 7D0 422 155 ES ?
Great idea 🎉
Great thanks.
there is no tensioner in my van, so i suppose i have to slack pff the alternator?
Great video, I’ve just bought my starter motor and now feeling confident to change it myself ^_^ also the lush music really calmed me after finding out I need to buy a new starter motor ;) thank you 🙏
Do you not need a turret plate on the floor or is it ok to just put it straight through to outside will exhaust not get to hot and burn insulation under the floor cheers
could you have two leisure batteries (wire them in series for higher voltage to power a fridge etc, or wire in parallel for higher capacity?) with this split charge system?
simplified to a novice, nice vid thanks mate.
Personally I would just cut back to 'SOLID METAL' and cut and fit, your new panels to fit the 'SOLID ORIGRINAL' bodywork! dx
😊
I have this exact model, can you help on how to remove centre console? And door panels lol
Bang on. As for red earth cable just loop some black tape round each end to make it stand out
why didn't you check the shape and size before ordering the part? great vid though
I fell into the trap of assuming there would only be one design - lesson learned!
@@JoelsStuff been there done that! just when you think you know everything there is to know! lol
This is the video I needed to see. I wish you were going to go into smart alternators and how to navigate these.
Hi bud your video is a great help don't suppose you can send me the item number and where you got it from
Thats my Quest tomorrow, thank you!
i might go back to my splitcjarge vsr thing to see how much charge my lifepo4 gets .
hi.my vw t4 2.5tdi used to have a vsr charger .i fitted a dc victron charger well have 2 now 18amp and 30amp dc chargers but recently they stopped charging to their capacity only getting about 10amps for both of them don’t know why.my 105ah lifepo4 battery needs mains top up every few days .i have parallel my old 12amp dc charger too with an isolater switch as i connect the 12amp charger to my other agm battery 105ah to my stereo power amps 2 kenwood .so get about 16amps when all 3 chargers parallel.seems like waste of victron dc chargers 300£😂i checked wiring seems ok.
I've just ordered new glows plugs n stater motor. As my glows plugs where on there way out, i tired doing the whole spray into the air take. Worked once, then tired that again. Then ended up frying my stater motor 😅
What’s a DC to DC charger? Are they different?
Fair play good job im a welder and own a T4 which im in the middle of doing this ... not the easiest of things to do even for me but the end results are all worth it . Good job
@Joel's Stuff i. does this use more diesel or is it excess electric from the engine? ii. can this charge a lifepo4 leisure battery?
Hi, It’s just using excess charge from your alternator, at least with my setup (the belt is constantly running the alternator so no extra load is on the engine if you connect a second battery). If you have a smart alternator then it might switch on more often if it’s charging a secondary battery. I don’t know much about them I’m afraid. I’m not sure what a lifepo4 is so you would have to investigate that one
@@JoelsStuff lifepo4 = LiFePo4 = lithium iron phosphate battery
Absolutely brilliantly explained.
Hi, I have just cat B on my licence, when I pass cat D, I will receive any other category on my licence?
great vid, I need to do mine so this helps loads. although when flushing it's best to use de-ionised water It won't leave scale build up in your cooling system. Regular water contains hard water minerals which can leave a build up of hard water deposits
I bought my aab t4 as a non runing barn find. Imediatly changed the diesel filter, good service, repaired the alternator and starter motor, 4 new wheels and tyres, treated wing arch/windscreen superficial rust... after 2000km she burned 3L of new oil, had to rebuild the engine and now it's doing that cold nightmare. When we rebuilt the engine we already changed thw most difficult glow plugs, now that seems to be the problem. i read in one of these coments that somebody replaced/upgraded the glow plugs wires... got me thinking and problably will do that too. Thanks for the helpefull video and reaction coments Joel.
Really useful video, doing mine next week
Best way to do this is pretty much the same, except, have both wheels off the ground (not on ramps). When the pump is taken off and while the high pressure line is not connected, turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock left to right a few times to bleed the rack of the old fluid. When you refill, do the same to get the new fluid in and the air out. Do not let the pump run dry when you top it up and start the engine.
Thanks for the advice!
FSM!! Welcome brother
Excellent explanation now I understand much better.
I had the same problem..., unfortunately was more expensive that I thought . in the end was the injection pump
That’s what I’m onto now 😬
using a car battery is super dangerous. They emit hydrogen as they charge. You have it in an enclosed cupboard. If theres a slightly bad connection in there it will cause a spark and that van will explode. In NSW Australia alone, 24 people die per year due to this happening.
Not with a sealed battery - important to check though!
@@JoelsStuff a "sealed battery" is NEVER sealed. It has vents because it has to
As some said rivets can be drilled out
Great video, took my flooring up today and the 3 main rust areas are in the exact same places, for reference what were you charged for the 2 suspension areas?
Thanks! I paid a couple of hundred, which made me realise how much I saved doing the rest myself.
@@JoelsStuff Cheers, yea definitely worth doing as much as possible yourself, I'm cutting out and shaping up the steel myself to save money, not that the money will be saved as it'll no doubt go on engine repairs! Gotta love a T4 😅
I hate to say the obvious but only doing 3 is a bad idea for the long-term reliability. Plus those plugs didnt look bad did you test them? That 540 should start a diesel no problem.
he obviously had a bad injector...
@@cannaroe1213 look that way.
The injectors were fine. I changed all five plugs after this and it worked perfectly
@JoelsStuff Good to hear. Its more often than not that hard starting and odd looking plugs is caused by a bad injector.
My light stays on
It’s not doing its job then. If the light it on then you are draining both batteries when using electrical power. It’s either faulty or wired wrong
