VW T4 - Changing the Speedo/Dials Cluster (VLOG)
Переглядів 24 тис.3 роки тому
UPDATE: The flashing oil light was caused by a broken wire running from the “W terminal” on the alternator to the instrument cluster. This lets it know how high the engine is revving, and it uses this information to choose between using the high pressure oil sensor (above 2000rpm), or the low pressure oil sensor (below 2000rpm). This could also explain why the rev counter did not work, but I di...

What’s a DC to DC charger? Are they different?
Fair play good job im a welder and own a T4 which im in the middle of doing this ... not the easiest of things to do even for me but the end results are all worth it . Good job
@Joel's Stuff i. does this use more diesel or is it excess electric from the engine? ii. can this charge a lifepo4 leisure battery?
Absolutely brilliantly explained.
Hi, I have just cat B on my licence, when I pass cat D, I will receive any other category on my licence?
great vid, I need to do mine so this helps loads. although when flushing it's best to use de-ionised water It won't leave scale build up in your cooling system. Regular water contains hard water minerals which can leave a build up of hard water deposits
I bought my aab t4 as a non runing barn find. Imediatly changed the diesel filter, good service, repaired the alternator and starter motor, 4 new wheels and tyres, treated wing arch/windscreen superficial rust... after 2000km she burned 3L of new oil, had to rebuild the engine and now it's doing that cold nightmare. When we rebuilt the engine we already changed thw most difficult glow plugs, now that seems to be the problem. i read in one of these coments that somebody replaced/upgraded the glow plugs wires... got me thinking and problably will do that too. Thanks for the helpefull video and reaction coments Joel.
Really useful video, doing mine next week
Best way to do this is pretty much the same, except, have both wheels off the ground (not on ramps). When the pump is taken off and while the high pressure line is not connected, turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock left to right a few times to bleed the rack of the old fluid. When you refill, do the same to get the new fluid in and the air out. Do not let the pump run dry when you top it up and start the engine.
Thanks for the advice!
FSM!! Welcome brother
Excellent explanation now I understand much better.
I had the same problem..., unfortunately was more expensive that I thought . in the end was the injection pump
That’s what I’m onto now 😬
using a car battery is super dangerous. They emit hydrogen as they charge. You have it in an enclosed cupboard. If theres a slightly bad connection in there it will cause a spark and that van will explode. In NSW Australia alone, 24 people die per year due to this happening.
Not with a sealed battery - important to check though!
@@JoelsStuff a "sealed battery" is NEVER sealed. It has vents because it has to
As some said rivets can be drilled out
Great video, took my flooring up today and the 3 main rust areas are in the exact same places, for reference what were you charged for the 2 suspension areas?
Thanks! I paid a couple of hundred, which made me realise how much I saved doing the rest myself.
@@JoelsStuff Cheers, yea definitely worth doing as much as possible yourself, I'm cutting out and shaping up the steel myself to save money, not that the money will be saved as it'll no doubt go on engine repairs! Gotta love a T4 😅
I hate to say the obvious but only doing 3 is a bad idea for the long-term reliability. Plus those plugs didnt look bad did you test them? That 540 should start a diesel no problem.
he obviously had a bad injector...
@@cannaroe1213 look that way.
The injectors were fine. I changed all five plugs after this and it worked perfectly
@JoelsStuff Good to hear. Its more often than not that hard starting and odd looking plugs is caused by a bad injector.
My light stays on
It’s not doing its job then. If the light it on then you are draining both batteries when using electrical power. It’s either faulty or wired wrong
Hi ive same problem. You said blue coolant at the end of vid ?
what a great informative video for a novice like myself. thank you
Thanks 😊
Thanks for the explanation and great use of graphics and equations of physics. Here why u should seek an expert advice ua-cam.com/video/TAEzCcayI0g/v-deo.htmlsi=_lVkdJ3y3_x0hbgG I like the last part of the video, some times it is not needed. Personally, I found it is cheaper and safer to buy external battery, charge it when it is needed with smart charger the night before trip. All I need the battery for is lights and fan out of the SUV. So always look for what you need. Thanks
Great video, best I've found on the subject, thank you so much!
Th fuse is to protect the circuit, not the appliance. T 2V power socket is, I think rated for 12A. You could plug one dual-socket USB charger into it, or with ana adapto, two or more. You wouldn't put a higher rated fuse each time. Think of house wiring. I have a fuse for my over, and another for everything else. and I regularly plug 2400W power boards in with four and more outlets
Got both mine to do. Eeeewwwwee. Lol.
What electrics can you power off that ? Must you buy a pure sine invertor to power bigger stuff ?
You can also remove it non-destructively by drilling out the rivets with a 4.5mm drill bit, for example!
Don't prise panels apart like that , you will distort them. Drill out spot welds, to prevent distorting the flange of the panel, there are special drills for this that just drill one side out, or if you have to drill through , then use a piece of 'non ferrous metal' such as aluminium or brass, behind when rewelding. The weld will only attach itself to the steel!
This helped me a lot today. Thank you so much :)
Great video thanks for sharing
Hi mate can you tell me what gauge/thickness yours wires are going to the fuse board from leisure battery, and from lights etc thanks 😊
should be g12 oat coolant bud
Excellent video, thanks. I have exactly the same problem in my 22 year old T4. Didn't know about pushing the key but will do that until the replacement switch arrives. Thanks so much for your clear and concise remedy to this problem
Thank you!
Getting the 3pulley bolts off is a twat.
Very useful to known mines started playing up. Fixed it What a bugger to get the screw out .. defo need offset Allen keys Thanks Joel interesting and informative
Good job you are so stupid 😂😂😂
Turn the wire feed down it'll work better
Another little cracker. Cheers Joel.
Just bought a T4, so, have a sub and I'll be no doubt going through every 1 of your vidz. Happy days.😊
Hi Joel, Just entering the "interesting" world of T4 ownership and looking forward to all the wee jobs I have to do! :p Can I ask how you bent the metal for the flooring? Is there a handy wee trick or something to bend it round? Cheers man!
Hey! I just used an angle grinder to cut out the shape, then hammer and vice to bend it into shape. There are all sorts of wonderful metal bending/forming tools out there but it’s not something I know a lot about. Good luck!
another nice video joel and if it wasnt for it i wouldnt have known about the difference between green and red fluids either so its great that the community are sharing their knowledge on here. watching this really makes me wanna adjust your driver door though, that swaige line not lining up is really annoyying me🤣
Me too! I tried a few years back to bend and weld it back to the right position but gave up 🤓
@@JoelsStuff bend and weld? There's quite a lot of adjustment on the doors without having to do that, how come you were having to reweld?
Had a flashing oil light on my 98 T4 it was the spade connection onto the oil pressure switch on the oil filter housing. If its not that try a new oil pressure switch.
great to see people still driving these and keeping them alive. just picked one up for £500 and it's serving me very well :)
I got mine for £1100 for a temporary run about and I love it!
Thank you. I have a Skoda Yeti and made one with a groundsheet/tarp; was ok but prefer your material. So will be getting......in hope that it is the same...... I am more primitive and use cable ties to secure to the roof rail. Looks like it really is waterproof. Thank you again
Hey guys. I changed the saitch and it still doesnt work. It gives contact but wont start… I have it hotwired and when I give electricity manualy it starts… Could it be some rellay?
spot on that, cheers mate.
Got same problem after watching your video, think I will put mine in the garage many thanks for making the video
Great video its been really helpfull thanks alot
genius idea! Thanks for sharing this! :)
No problem - the table is still great after a few years!
Does your alternator have a slip pulley or is it a fixed pulley?
