Visionless Designs
Приєднався 8 січ 2020
Welcome to my channel, where you get to see all the things I can’t. My name is Damien Devereux and I lost my sight in 2013.
After a lot of practice and sore fingers, I found a way of keeping a part of my old forestry job by taking what I used to make and turning it into furniture; through this, I managed to find ways around my disability. With a lot of patience and help from my family, I was able to prove that no matter what your condition is, you can still achieve.
A few years later, my company, Visionless Designs, was born. I specialise in making rustic furniture. If you would like to see some of my creations, please feel free to visit my website, Etsy store, or social media pages.
On my channel, I hope to show you how I, as a blind person, work with my tools and machinery. I will be doing product reviews and videos of me improving/building things for my business. There will also be videos of me showing off some of my products - because I’ve got to eat something other than sawdust…

Does size really matter? Testing different sized router cutters to level timber
Today Damien trials using different sized router cutters with his spindle motor, this is to see if a larger cutter at a slower speed is better than a smaller cutter at a faster speed.

A Guaranteed Way to Kill Woodworm in Your Furniture Without Chemicals
Переглядів 15 тис.2 роки тому
In today's video, Damien shows a way of killing woodworm in already built furniture using his kiln. Due to the size of his kiln, he can put in multiple large dining tables, bookshelves, chairs, benches, etc. He has also tested this method on pieces of furniture that have been treated differently (ie. varnish, oil, lacquer, resin). In today's video, Damien upgrades the CLC (Cookie Levelling Contraption) again. With this upgrade the dust capture rate is increased massively and will not need a high end extractor to function. This also opens up the opportunity to make a much larger levelling table. Links to his other social media and shop - www.visionlessdesigns.com www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Visionlessdesigns vision...

Thank you, some useful observations other reviews didn't mention
Sir, you are a true inspiration ❤❤❤
“Bigger is better” somehow I thought that would be your conclusion but watching your testing was good content. The CMT ORANGE products (in my experience with their saw blades) are in the superior brand category. That is quite an impressive machine you have!
Thanks, I'm inclined to agree the CMT Orange products seem incredibly good value and worth the money.
Nice kit I like the options of changing the shelf orientation. Is this available in the USA?
I like that new work surface.
I just discovered your channel today searching for dust collection and WorkMate videos. So I subscribed and began looking at all of your work starting with the intro video. It will be fun and informative watching your content! Thank you.
That is a nicely done upgrade. I’ve a very old WorkMate 300 that I made a 3/4”x4’x2’ light duty top with a 2x4 spanning the center section that the WorkMate clamped in place. These tool aide are able to accommodate many enhancements.
nice rework, interesting suggestions
Desnecessário ficar assim com a mão esquerda tão próxima da lixa, instigando outras pessoas a fazerem igual. Não vai perder a mão, mas pode machuca-la
ele é cego e é assim que se sente onde está o trabalho.

Can a festool dust extractor work with this if I have a dust port adapter
I wouldn't think so. The powermatic sander requires a 100mm dust hose attaching to it and an extractor that has a 100mm port or greater that is rated for fine dust. I'm not aware of any Festool dust extractors that have 100mm ports and going from a smaller hose to a larger hose will not provide enough airflow to catch all the dust. And this thing produces a lot of dust.
bro i've got so much respect for you ! you made my day better, you prove that the human spirit is really incredible and that if there is a will there is a way, i can't even begin to imagine what life must be like for you without your eyes and yet you make it look so easy ! thank you !
that is a really nice system
As a blind woodworker and engineer I find this fascinating. Is the VFD unit a custom design or an off-the-shelf model?
Hi there, we bought the spindle motor and the VFD separately to give us more flexibility, here are the links if you would like to take a look: VFD - www.omc-stepperonline.com/bd600-series-vfd-5hp-7-5hp-3-7-5-5kw-8-5-13a-three-phase-380v-variable-frequency-drive-bd600-3r7g-5r5p-4 Spindle Motor - www.omc-stepperonline.com/square-spindle-motor-air-cooled-380v-3-5kw-18000rpm-300hz-er25-collet-cnc-engraving-router-milling-grinding-machine-stepperonline-cnc-vfd-motor-380v-ac-spindle-4-bearings-gdz93-82-3-5c4 the feature set of the VFD is pretty overkill for what we need, but it is nice to have access to all the additional features.
@@VisionlessDesigns Thanks! very interesting. Probably overkill for what I'm looking to build and I don't have three-phase electrics, but very interesting setup nonetheless. I'm working on a CNC that can take simple text input commands, for example "move to 0, draw a circle 50 mm diameter 3 mm deep" for simple prototyping.
I purchased this, tried it in a few projects, and returned it today. I don’t know what was wrong with it but it was leaving a horrible finish. Scratches everywhere.
Nooice!
Nooice!
picked up a free B&D clone bench. I liked & sub'd
would prefer no sun glasses & hat
The name of this site is Visionless Designs. Think about it, he is blind so might be a good reason for the sun glasses.
Sun glasses are a way of trying to let people know I'm blind, hat wise I'm always wearing a hat, if I'm not wearing my Aussie hat then I'm wearing my top hat.
Thanks for the update, good discussion of the variables when fiddling with the original design
Looks like an excellent upgrade. I'd really like to do something like this on my own workmate plus but the problem I have currently is the only storage place is up on a wall and even at stock weight it's pretty tricky to put it up and down. I made a separate worktop that clamps into the workmate jaws to extend it's working surface. This works well for some projects but of course I lose the function of the workmate vice and I have to store the extra worktop separately.
I had a couple of old workmates where the original tops failed. I modified them to just foldable work surfaces with 19mm plywood and one I welded a metal top so it became my portable welding table. I made a heavy steel horse with my vice at one end and a pipe vice at the other, yes I don’t have the variety of bench dog clamping abilities but in what I’d I don’t need it. I do like what you have done with your top.
I just made new jaws for mine out of 5 x 2, been like it for 25 years and been a great success. Enjoyed your process.
I have a few Workmates. They're all different models. I don't have one where the vise flips up though. They made so many different models of Workmates.
That's the same thickness and wood I used to upgrade mine. Works great. Thanks for sharing.
Great info Thanks for posting Could the fixings be screwed in the troughs of the sheets or not
Some people do, but then you are heavily relying on there being a good seal in the gully as that is where all the water will be pooling up and running down. It would also add something for leaf debris to start building up on and possibly block the gully. My granddad has this problem with his roof.
@@VisionlessDesigns Roof now finished a d looking real good
You're an inspiration. I'm fully-sighted and fully able for my age (I wear glasses and also ache after a hard day's woodworking) but I get frustrated when I can't get something right. I can't imagine how you do so well and also cope with the frustration. I'm trying to find words to praise and encourage you without making it sound like you're "lucky" to be blind. I envy your mindset, but not your condition!
WHOOP-DOO-DOO!! Great review man 👍🏽
really looking forward to seeing the progress with this

Hi could anyone tell me what fuse this take s please
Sorry that this is very late. For anyone else that wants to know, the 230V version uses a 13A fuse.
erm.....arrrrr.....errrm..... arr
You did very well. A lovely job. I have taken note how you did it. I have been looking on other UA-cam channels and they do not show a person on the roof. Now I know how it is done. Excelent job. I have a eyesight condition as I do not have Binocular vision from birth. I am also frightened of Heights. Even at shed height. I had my felt put on by a friend. it has ripped half off due to the winds we have had in South Derbyshire, In England. Have a lovely day and all the best Ron.
why not bottom and up ventilation?
We moved the lower vents to directly underneath the heater so that the cold air was immediately heated and allowed for the pressured difference between the top and bottom which in turn forced the moist air out the top of kiln.
@@VisionlessDesignsso what's the best setup based on your experience and experiments?
Thanks for some great ideas !
Hope this gets read out to you Damien I'm a Carpenter and joiner and have been working in the trade for over 40 years and i find this craft hard at times as well when working on my own i have my full site but mate you are an inspiration to any body who thinks they can't do it wow wow you have blown me away i to have a channel on youtube and wish you could have seen our journey were i make all the things for our farmhouse here in France working with lovely timbers like oak, chestnut and currently working with tulip wood and red sequoia to make some windows and doors any way thank you for sharing your journey all the best Budo at french farmhouse diaries
Great video. I've been using my unit with bags, but the AFC always comes on regardless. I was wondering whether there is a way to switch off AFC by default and only turn it on when needed. It would save having to use two buttons everytime.
I agree it would be better to have a switch rather than a button, as then it wouldn't forget its settings the moment the extractor is turned off.
2 year no video..Hope you are allright m8!
Sorry, I got a bit too busy with work and got side tracked but I'm trying to get it back on track now!
I must say that I think you are pretty amazing to do what you do & your explanation of this first video is second to none & I will definitely be watching more of your videos for when I want to learn how to make things.
Thank you. I appreciate your upgrade idea.
Fantastic in depth review mate! Thanks! (High fiber porridge 🤣)
You are certainly big on sound effects 😅
can you show me how does this unit works?
is it effective?
does it work?

A problem I’d never considered before with a great solution, thanks for the education 🙂
Loved the intro :) £250+ for the kit - ouch!
thanks, great review with many tips and potential issues that might occur during actual work. Cheers!
Damien, you are an inspiration! i was just browsing through reviews for B+D work benches as i was planning to buy one. and stumbled upon this video. and honestly I was feeling strange why are you no looking into the camera while you are speaking. Fooling of me not to realize until you said or not reading the name of your channel. I am beginner to wood working and you have made a great impression on me. Please keep up the good work and keep posting more videos. BTW this is a great idea and i am going to do the same on my new WB. cheers!
