I spent quite a bit on this laptop, so If was going to be a high end laptop I wanted to upgrade the RAM and NVMe to also be at the high end. We After having it for a week, I upgraded the RAM a...

Installing Fedora 35 On The Framework Laptop
I'm an over the road trucker trying to get into another career field. I have a laptop, mobile hotspot, and a udemy course. Do you have a discord at all for mentoring?
0:34 hmm those little black thing just under your thumbs are flaps you can use to pull up instead of getting your nails under there….much easier :)
Thank you for these videos. I was able to put everything together!😀
I don’t quite have a test but I do wonder just how far an SD card goes in/sticks out, mainly because I’m curious whether or not eg those BaseQi ‘stealth’ MicroSD adapters for MacBooks will get an MicroSD card mostly flush with the machine. The regular MicroSD card reader, besides being limited to UHS-I speeds, sticks out a bit too far to allow for me to be comfortable to just leave a card in there at all times. The lip of the BaseQI adapter sticks out as well (by design) but as it’s not the actual card that’s exposed that’s easier to take I guess the easy way to figure this out without buying a $25-35 specialty adapter is to measure how far it goes in and determine whether or not that’s enough for a microSD to fit on its side
I have one of these from my Macbook pro 13inch from 2011, I'll make a video on how much it comes out.
Nice, really good video.
Agree that it’s way easier to have separate physical drives, but never had the need to physically remove the other on install.
after you upgrade SSD and next step reinstall windows or just run pc and setup your windows
I feel like they should make a third option with prebuilt and diy. They should call it barebones edition as it everything is separated and you have to build the entire thing yourself for an even bigger discount.
Are those spacers 3d printed?
Are you interested in trying our SSD?
Can you test memory cards in kdiskmark?
I would have used micro sd cards, who uses full size cards anymore?
Framework has has a microsd card reader from the start. They just released the full SD card module, so I wanted to do a video on it.
Would love a comparison video between the 13 and 16. No one has done it
Great Suggestion! I'll work on it this week, and get it up this next weekend!
Awesome, thanks for this!
Why red hat ?
@@ChrisNoble-w9k Why Red Hat? Look for Jobs with Linux, and start looking at Glassdoor (or other sites). How many companies pay for Linux? Those who make it a priority for reliability, longevity and or security. Look for the salary of someone who has a RHSCA or RHCE verses other certs. This is just a couple reasons why I’d pick Red Hat.
Nice.
So undecided about 16 or 13
I'll do a video on a comparison with both this coming weekend. Let me know if there are question about either, and I'll include it in the video.
@@Jscar_Hawk I just got my 16 today actually. But main things I want to look into are screen response time comparison; screen usability in terms of how much that extra screen real estate provides from the 16 vs how much less the 13.5 is. The build quality difference. Battery life difference. Of course no pressure to cover these things, especially since I've already chosen the 16 myself, but I think in general those are some of the good topics that would make it a great video for people to compare. Also would be nice to have a lot of footage of the difference in size and form factor throughout
I am sure this is useful for people who handle full-size SD cards all the time, but this is honestly to sketchy for me to use.
I’ve got some UHS-II SD cards coming in, to do a follow up video on. To check out some of the rewrite spades comparatively to some of the other SD card readers I’ve been using.
Thanks for the video - you are the first one to share. Any chance you could record a benchmark video using UHS-I and UHS-II cards. I am interested in performance of writing and reading 64GB of data - both small files like photos but also large videos onto the card but more importantly from the card onto the harddrive. Thanks!
Just ordered UHS-II cards for testing. Give me a day for shipping and I'll get the follow up video on that subject!
@@Jscar_Hawk amazing 🤩
"Partway out"... that's more out than in! 😂
This is true, but I will say I’m glad to have an adapter that will now plug-in flush to my laptop versus having to have a net converter or dongle, I have to keep in my bag..
@@Jscar_Hawk looks like a really interesting laptop
Thank you! Big fan of the framework content, but please loose the music, at least during voice over.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll bring the music level down in the future.
man this thing is heavy but you can literally feel the quality
I absolutely agree
awesome, thank you very much for this in detail video. just received my framework laptop today and love it.
Glad it helped!
You missed an nvme cooler under the stick as well.
When I was setting up this laptop, I had to open and closed so many times and upgraded within the first week of recording, there are things that I did that was not captured in the video. Which reminds me I should probably go back and get those videos posted . Now I’m running a dual boot set up.
You meant for storage 2280, right? LOL.
Yes, that is what I meant. Thank you!
The time limit of shorts really dont help, these seem a little too vague
I going into detail in my hour talk… link should be in the description. Otherwise you can look for the home lab talk on my channel.
Turn the music DOWN please and speak up a little. TYIA
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll change that for the future!
Great, followed step by step without a hitch
Fantastic, glad to hear it!
G'day, Great video quick to the point and easy to follow. I am not too tech savy but am able to do small work such as these installations, I just have a question in regards to the software side of things; is there anything you need to do to the drive or the ram after installing it or is it simply plug and play everything's all set ready to use normally?
Ram should be recognized automatically so you shouldn’t have to do anything via software. Worst case scenario it’ll be long the first boot after you have installed the ram since the bios is going through and mapping it. I hope that helps answer your question.
@@Jscar_Hawk That's great to know I won't need to do any software updates. I will be ordering the FW16 soon, may I also ask with a mini corsair mp600 2230 did you have any issues with the height limitations for the WD 2280 on top? Also do we get the bottom mousepad spacers for free with the laptop and only require to pick 2 spacers for the above keyboard modules? Thank you for your time & clarification :D
Sooooo, you changed to Linux (I'm assuming) because of privacy reasons and then use Discord (with some of the worst TOS out there?)
I’ve been using Linux as my daily driver since 2012 (when Ubuntu 8.04 was released on CDs). Privacy is not the only reason why you would switch to Linux. I’m also a huge proponent of self hosting. Neither of these were the focus for this video. This video was to show how easy you Can get started with a podcast running on Linux for close to nothing in cost. With other services like Riverside FM, the like casting you $20+ dollars per month, I wanted to show folks how to get started inexpensively. If you’re interested in finding out how to do this without using somebody else’s services or cloud or hosting your data, I’d be happy to do a follow up video.
I have been excited about Framework for years now, still not buying because they don't ship to nor support outside of very select and privileged nations.
they're still a small company, it's a tough business to make headway in, hopefully they keep growing and expand globally
So the highlighted slots are where you DON'T put the usb-A right?
Do the color panel and LED matrix also work if placed at the bottom, or only if next to the keyboard?
Unfortunately, no those panels do not work for the touchpad area. It’s a different design and layout. I can follow up with the UA-cam short to show you the difference.
Mate, the spaces and keyboard have pull tabs. No need to use your nails.
Legitimately thought this was part of the aesthetics and not meant for that purpose…. Thank you for pointing it out!
This is awesome, thanks for showing
Amazing video! Loved it. No need for finger nails, black pull tabs instead. Much easier. :)
I see the module connectors are USB-C so can't you use those holes as a normal USB-C?
wondering the same here
Сотни видосов про этот ноутбук и абсолютно на каждом все собирают стандартный вариант. Ноутбук даёт видимо то что никому и не нужно с этой модульностью клавиатуры
At time of shipping, you only had one or two options of keyboards. Now after about six months or so, you have the ability to go through and select and get shipped different types of keyboards.
Ive gone into the process completely blind. Never watched a video to put it together. I wanted to truly test it. And its easier than i imagined. Amazing design work.
Hey I’m 19 years old I always wanted to break into tech. I saw someone talk about Linux sys admin and tbh I don’t know where to start. Can you please guide me which programs I should start on so I can learn. Thank you!!
Getting into anything IT means that you’re going to be constantly learning and staying up-to-date. So if you’re a lifelong learner and enjoy keeping up with things that IT field is a great way to jump in. I’ve got a video “Stay RHELevent in your homelab” that goes into a deep dive with suggested resources and how to get started
Where can you NOT install the usb C ? I currently have all USB C and just don’t want to install one in the wrong area for now.
I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but you can install USB C modules in all 6 slots, but some of them will be USB 4 speed and some will be USB 3.2 speed
MacBook doesn’t lift off. Apple better
My screws on the same model look diffrent. It's a tiny hole and flat. I can't get into this thing.
Can you do 4 panels color shift?
Four panel color shift is not possible because it’s a different set up on the bottom. I’ll create a short to show the differences and link to this comment.
Thanks for the vid, would have liked to have seen you boot it up etc... Never seen an SSD taken apart like that, i found this vid because I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM to 32GB, but like you, installing an SSD puts me off because of reducing the air flow, now I would definately do the same as you, thanks!
I love you
bravoo
Great tips !
Glad you think so!
I don’t get the obsession with installing so many games tbh.
It a good amount of games. It works for me.
@@Jscar_Hawk - You have a short attention span dude?
@@Kohanasglade It's not an ADHD thing, it's a depression thing. If you've ever heard that “kids are easily entertained”, it's because their brain wasn't stressed enough yet for serotonin receptors deterioration to kick in, so the slightest amount of it keeps them satisfied. If you're happy playing one game from start to finish, it's great! Means your parents paid just the right amount of attention to you growing up, and your job didn't suck the joy of life out of you yet - your mental health is more or less okay. That's not the case for 90% of society. With the constant stress of adult life, your fight or flight instincts kick in when there's a deadline coming, or your boss is in a bad mood - not really a situation you can fight your way through or run away from. So you have no choice but to endure it, and it's slowly destroying the chemistry in your brain. Cortisol keeps building up and finally reaches a level so high that a single joyful activity isn't enough to produce an overtaking level of serotonin. You're easily bored, disappointed, nothing seems to satisfy you. Therefore, you either succumb and dig yourself an even deeper hole, or you surround yourself with as many entertaining experiences as you can, and switch between them rapidly to create the feeling of “something new”. Which creates its own set of issues in the long run, but it's helping for now. Welcome to adulthood.
