Cool car! My brother had an '87 Daytona that'd been modified...I think it was a Shelby model to start with but it'd had the head redone and a different turbo....about 224 hp I think it dyno'd. It was a little beast. Dodge had the unequal length half shafts so one would wind up more than the other and try to torque steer you into the weeds. I drove it a few times and it was really fast. Just like my buddy's GLHS Omni was...you could spin the front tires up to about 45-50mph. My brother wrapped the Daytona around a tree. This one would be a complete monster. I'd like to build one! I'm working on putting a Redeye into a '70 Charger.... Cool video dudes!

I had an '87 back in the day. These cars are extremely light compared to modern cars. I imagine driving this being like being a newbie motorcyclist riding a 1000cc hyperbike. So much power to weight.

My 88 Daytona shelby 14:36 Z had 174 hp this thing like what triple the horsepower yes if I can build one of these and drive in the street in California, I would car brings back all the good memories. I had dark leather interior. The seats were so dang comfortable Daytona blue with Tops fun little cars.

My first upcoming project is going to be a crashed N10, only front damage and the engine is already dropped. Love these Datsun's and am currently wondering what engine to drop in it.

Small block chryslers sound fantastic magnums included especially on duel exhaust and with the right parts can go pretty darn good.

In 1979 I convinced my mother to buy a new Datsun 310 GX. Ours was exactly the same black/red as yours. This was around the time Datsun was changing its name to Nissan. So, at one time you could go to the dealership and they’d have cars from the same manufacturer, the older models would be Datsuns and the newer ones would be Nissans. I grew up in a major East Coast US city and we were among the first persons on our street to have a foreign car. We got lots of compliments on the car! One of the things that attracted us to this car was that it was front-wheel drive (FWD), which was uncommon back then. I don’t believe that Toyota had any FWD cars available in the USA then. We lived on a hill then, and when it snowed some neighbors couldn’t get their RWD cars to go up the hill -- we could. The car was slow as it had only 58 HP! That was low, but not ridiculous as it would be now. I thought it had great cornering. When leaving red lights other cars would try to pass me on curves and would spin out as they couldn’t corner as well. The car was very reliable, and my mother has had five or more Nissans since then! Back then cars didn’t have nice manufacturers radios like they do now, it was common for people to remove their car radios and have another brand installed (maybe Kenwood, Alpine, Yamaha, Sony, etc. ) for better sound as the standard radios then sucked. That Kenwood did not come with that car. That hatchback didn’t have a privacy panel, anyone could see what you had in your trunk! One time I got pulled over for speeding, and while we were talking to one cop, the other had a flashlight searching our closed trunk for illegal items! Nissan didn't include A/C in the car, the dealers had it installed on the dock and it was only mediocre.
