    this perfect timing as I'm just starting my first solo session and using an urban adventure from SH. I would love if you would also do a wilderness & dungeon series for SH similar to this. It's great intro content for SH and I feel that content is lacking on UA-cam.

    05:42, the fray die killed one of the bats, and then the spirit companion killed another. 3 bats should be left for the enemy turn,or am I misunderstanding something?

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 4 дні тому

      Unless I am missing something, Ralva used her main action to summon her spirit, then she used her fray die on the skeleton and he took 1 HD of damage (she is allowed to use her fray attacks on powerful enemies since she is a magic-user). Then, the spirit companion attacked the bats and killed one.

    Do you roll for each centipede’s I thought you rolled for pack of creatures as if they are one?

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 4 дні тому

      In this case I attacked them individually because I rolled on the fight difficulty table (p.121) and it called for 3 rabble +1 veteran, so I needed 4 separate enemies. However, in some of my other adventures I have treated smaller enemies as pack creatures (ex: rats) where each "pack" would represent more than one creature, and I would have the pack share a single pool of HD. So basically you could do both ways, but to keep things balanced during urban adventures I would try sticking with the stats and number of enemies found in the tables from page 121.

    Can a plotline you scratch can came back. Exemple : with character return, you choose the magician and so defeat the magician is back on your list ?

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 18 днів тому

      Good question, I tried to find the answer in the rules but I couldn't find anything definitive. Here's how I would resolve this. In this example I would treat it as a new plotline. Ex: ''defeat the magician'' is crossed out every time it appeared, but you add one entry of ''defeat the zombie magician'' to your plotlines. This would be the way to do it if you are starting a new plotline when you roll for the character to return. But if the magician were to come back during another plotline (ex: Find the lost treasure), then it might work better to keep the returning character tied to the plotline you (re-)invoked him in. In this example, while the magician may have been its own plotline before, now you have to beat him again to get the treasure. TL;DR: 1. If the character returns during a turning point of ''new plotline'' then you can create a new plotline with a similar objective. 2. If the character returns during a ''plotline development'' then the character is now part of the selected plotline, so you will have to deal with them in one way or another to resolve this plotline.

      @@ValTheVideomancer as I want to use it in comics books super heroes ttrpg (if I found a system I like) I would want ennemies to go back. For exemple : spidey have stories where he beat Sandman in one panel, other in a full book and other in a full story arc. He even help spidey sometime. An in Batman as long you didn’t have a corp you shouldn’t be sure Joker can’t came back, an Arkham adylium seem a place very easy to break out from.

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 9 днів тому

      @@joellechanu7789Since you are looking mainly for characters to come back, the rules may work well as they are. Otherwise, you could always make a list just for supervillains, and when it feels appropriate to invoke a character from that list, you roll specifically on it. Since you never want them to be completely gone, you just never cross their names from the list. And if they get defeated/killed in the adventure, then you just say they are out for the time of this adventure, unless a meta plot point brings them back.

    What’s the difference between the first and second editions?

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 18 днів тому

      My answer may not be exact because I only read through mythic 1st edition, but as far as I know, they simplified the fate chart and tweaked a bunch of things, and they added the meaning tables. I think the first edition had a more complicated fate chart that allowed people to play the game more as a standalone rpg. • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer Місяць тому

      I have not played FATE, but it looks like an interesting system to read about. I am adding it to my list of suggestions! It seems like a good system for solo RPGing because the character sheet looks simple. Usually, it's good to use a simpler RPG for solo play because you spend less time in the rulebooks, and more time on your story. Also, I think I can still give you some basic solo tips. If you choose to play with the adventure crafter, you could check out pages 6-7, and use the system as an "adventure seed", or "as needed". I find it's a good way to get a lot out of those rules without ending up spending too much time on planning the story. Now, when you get to the adventure itself, I think it's good to have something to answer yes or no questions. In the past I have covered: the "Loom of Fate" (p.7) from CRGE, the "Fate Chart" (p.20) from Mythic (2nd Ed), and the "Yes or No? Oracle" from Scarlet Heroes (p.115). There is also a pretty good free oracle that I have yet to cover called "'(Another) Yes/No Oracle" by Gustavo Coelho. This kind of tool is pretty much necessary to play solo rpgs because it adds an element of surprise! Turns out, it's unanticipated events which make a solo adventure feel engaging and challenging like a traditional TTRPG with a game master.

    • @Shka_maru
      @Shka_maru Місяць тому

      Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna put them to use. And looking forward to seeing your breakdown of FATE core. The official site has the core rulebook and other stuff, FREE :). So much supplemental material to expound upon the core rulebook, I wish they included it.

    Really cool how you explain the mechanics in the context of the story, so we can see how and when you apply the rules and interpret the results, while the story keeps going, even if a bit slower. (I like it so far!) One thing I don't like about Mythic is the chaos factor. It seems this mechanic is self-reinforcing and inevitably leads to a dead end: the higher the chaos factor, the less likely you get your expected result, which in turn increases the chaos factor, and so on. The same goes in the other direction, so you either end up in utter chaos or total boredom. At least that's what it looks to me. Of course there are sometimes possibilities to nudge the interpretation in one's favor, but this feels a bit like cheating.

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer Місяць тому

      Thank you! And I agree that the chaos factor is a weak side of Mythic. I feel like it does not always fit with the mood I am going for in a given scene. What I usually do is to take a bit more control over the chaos factor than you are supposed to. I will still make it go up or down if I think the scene was especially chaotic or if I think it put order in things, but I will keep it as it is if I think it wasn't clearly one way or the other. I think it keeps chaos a bit more stable. Also, usually I will word things so the most dramatic or exciting thing will happen if I get a "yes", even if it's not always in my character's favor.

    I play BX and I don't need a "Frey die" or traits to make each character unique. All of this is just gimmicky fluff that you can already do in Basic D&D. For example, in my current game I have a player using a Dragonborne character. He can tail swipe once per battle and do a breath attack once per day. A lot more thematic than "Frey dice". Save your money and use your imagination instead. You don't need Scarlet Heroes.

      I'm not sure there is a "best" way. Progress tracker is an extremely general mechanic, so it can be used in many different ways. I don't know if it's possible to exhaust the possibilities. Consider two extremes: 1) inspired by Ironsworn: a journey requiring multiple segments of successful travel, pick the number of boxes on the tracker based on the length of the journey, and flashpoints could be opportunities where success means extra progress awarded (faster travel). 2) inspired by PUM (Plot Unfolding Machine): a progress tracker is used to identify the boundaries of the entire adventure (which might span several sessions), where flashpoints indicate major "plot twists".

    One of the best explanations of Scarlet Heroes and how to play rpgs for a newbie trying to play solo.❤

      @@ValTheVideomancer Something else I tend to have a problem with are threads, when are you supposed to interact with them and when aren't you? As I will be working towards resolving a thread when a random event will then interact with it. Am I only supposed to interact with threads when the random events tell me to, or can I interact with them as I please, given normally I expect players to always be trying to interact with "threads" so I find their presence as random events weird? Kind of like a gm trying to redirect the game in opposition to players interest?

    How do I convert feats to Scarlet Heroes?

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 3 місяці тому

      To make things simpler I would convert them into traits as much as possible. You can also add them with minimal modifications (like spells), and follow the normal conditions for gaining them, but it would make your character more powerful so you would need to account for that when balancing fights.

    Definitely going to use this system. Feels like it'll suit me much better than Mythic.

      @ValTheVideomancer 3 місяці тому

      Glad to hear my video helped you! Personally I like Mythic a lot, but it can get very overcomplicated. CRGE is very lightweight and elegant in comparison, I find it's just a bit more random.

    Poor Dario, dice was determined to make him the villain until the end. It has been a fun series. Looking forward to the next one! Maybe we get to see some Adventure Crafter next?

    Sariel goes through all of this only to have her sidekick steal the boss kill? Not cool, Marcus! You had ONE job! Great job on completing the series, neighbor! That must've been a huge creative undertaking to put all of that together and it certainly inspired me to create my own. Keep doing what you have fun doing!

    • @ValTheVideomancer
      @ValTheVideomancer 3 місяці тому

      Hey thank you Gabelin! Yeah, Marcus really proved his worth in those last few episodes xD. And to think just days earlier he almost got killed by that Kappa! I am glad to hear that this inspired you to start a series of your own! Honestly, what took the longest was generating and animating all those AI generated images! But now I am loving the AI images for illustrating fantasy adventures. In the next few months I will be going back to the rules videos for a bit, but I am already excited to make the next RPG story!

      I would give it a shot if I were you. Just like you I didn't care about the setting, so I just used everything else and it worked great. It's really easy to play fantasy settings, but with a little bit more work you could play other genres

    Great explanation of Mythic GME 2E! Probably the best I've found on UA-cam for now! However, I am not using it I prefer one or two pages oracles nowadays: One Page Mythic (removes chaos factor and puts meaning table and random focus into one table and is very elegant imho), OPSE (free, uses cards and dice which is pretty interesting and helpful even for hex and dungeon generation with its backside)... My favorite right now is the Dark Gods' Oracle at p98 Black Sword Hack which to put it simply is the One Page Mythic but with d6s (high is yes and low is no, with varying intensity) and d66 tables for meanings
