Making A Steam Box and Wood Bending
hi. well i built my canoe, redwood model. it is beautiful, although it has some imperfections. Now I am starting to build another one, this time for sale, so I need to perfect the building process :). Please tell me what thickness you cut the slats and what set of cutters you used- maybe give the manufacturer and the rounding radius. I am continually impressed by your canoe. Greetings
Congrats on your build! I ripped the cedar into 1/4” thickness and used a standard 1/2" Shank 1/4" Diameter Flute and Bead Router Bit Set. I’m not sure of the make but suggest you get a good quality carbide set. (1/2” shank has better stability but if you only have a 1/4” router then that’s will work as well). Let me know how your next canoe turns out and enjoy the build. Cheers.
A wooden wonder 😮
NOTHING less than a masterpiece !
Awesome!!!
Thanks for watching! I glad you enjoyed it.
Such a great build! Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed watching it.
Any clue where I can get a shoal keel for my hunter 25?
That is a good question. These keels are encapsulated into the hull so that would be a big project. Perhaps one can find a H25 at a wreckage yard? They are built in Florida and probably most numerous there. Can I ask what happened to your boat that a new keel is required?
A true craftsman.
Thank you very much! I found the SS carriage bolts on Amazon. The diamond washers, I made from SS flat bar. In addition to looking cool, they are tapered to allow the head of the bolt to lay flat on the slopping gunwales. Here is a link to the bolts a.co/d/59dC7Hz Thanks and I hope your canoe build is a fun one.
Extraordinary craftsmanship. I'm looking to do a similar project and as much as I'd love to pour this amount of passion into it, I'll be doing a more generic build. Though, one day, I'd love to reach this level. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you very much. Enjoy the building process and of course the sauna experience. Cheers.
What did this cost you to build?
Thank you for the question. Not including the trailer (which has been upgraded to a tandem axle now), total, with the stove, was around $7800 CA. All exterior Cedar was reclaimed from my house siding so cost me nothing.
Toll, wie du das rüberbringst!
Thank you very much!

Hi Andre, I'm from Venezuela. What a great job you do with wood, especially your canoe is spectacular. I would like to make my own canoe in your style, but because of the crisis in my country I can't buy anything from abroad. Can you give me your plans please? Thank you very much 💟 ❣
Thank you for your kind words and I’m sorry to hear about your country’s crisis. Unfortunately, I no longer have the canoe plans but there are many websites and other videos which have detailed instructions. The most important step is the build the strong back and internal frame. Once you have this the rest is straight forward as per my video. Hope you get your canoe built. Cheers.
@@AjBProductions Thanks Andre, I am very grateful for your response.

Awesome job
Appreciate it! Thanks.
Better workmanship than they would have done at the factory.
Thank you very much!
A labour of love , creates a thing of beauty.❤
👍👍👍
100%%artesanal..I love it..tks..how mach..it.$$??
Thank you for the kind words. There is a saying “ price is a state of mind”. I have seen a range of $1,000 to $60,000 for handmade canoes. This was my first (and last) canoe and took around 150 fun filled hours to make.
Excellent craftsmanship. Kudos.
Thank you very much!
What viscosity resin did you use?
Thanks for your question. I used West System 105 epoxy resin. I don’t have the viscosity data but it has relative density on 1.15 (if that helps). Cheers.
Amazing build , i couldn't take my eyes of the screen , a true masterpiece . Kinda makes me build my own althou i have no experience.
Thank you very much. I recommend you go and build one. Really not that hard. Cheers
Blue jays eat Spam!! 😮
Ha ha! It was ham (spam would be cruel) 😁
Great view of the final product. (wish there was one)
Next time!
Masterful! Art with function.
Thank you very much!
I'm really interested how the wood construction has held up with road vibration and country roads.
Thank you for your question. I haven’t travelled over too much gravel roads, only two miles per year as I haul it between my cottage and home the rest is all highway. No issues at all with it at as all interior wood joints are glued as is the cedar siding. I think having it mounted to its own aluminum base frame, the unit is very stiff and strong. I also upgraded the trailer to a longer tandem one for better stability at highway speeds. Cheers.

Thank you very much!
Absolutely astounding bob 😮
Thank you very much! Bob’s Special is actually the name of this model (probably designed by a guy named Bob). Thanks again. Cheers.
Very well done! It’s just awesome!
Thank you Alex for your kind words. A foot note to the project is that I upgraded the trailer to a tandem axle as the single axle trailer was a bit unstable at highway speeds. She pulls like a dream now. Cheers.
Your ridged foam has a MAX temperature rating of 60 Deg. C. Saunas run at 90? Loved your idea and video
You Sir are a true master craftsman. I`ve learned a lot in this video. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to educate us. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you very much! I am happy to have shared the building process. Cheers from Canada.
An absolute work of art…..brilliant!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it.
Just perfect!

Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed watching it.
How many kg has the trailer?
The sauna only is 600 kg and the trailer has a capacity of 680 kg. I upgraded the trailer to a double axle after I made the video as the single axle trailer was unstable when over 90 km/hr. It pulls very well now. Thank you for your question. Cheers.
@@AjBProductions thanks for you answer
Great work ⚡⚡⚡⚡❤
Thank you very much!
I di.d mine in one month....then was used for filming and paid for everything
Congratulations. Took me a bit longer than one month but worth every second.
You, sir, are an artist! The fact that you have all your fingers is a testament to your attention to detail. That, and the perfectly beautiful canoe!!
Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes, keeping all my fingers is a priority for me. Cheers.
Great job! Thank you for the video

Wow great video , I miss sailing wabamun, looking forward to more video
Thank you very much David. I will post more in the future but also have a few videos up from past years on my channel if you want to see them.
Beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
Lovely craftsmanship. Perfect editing. Happy paddling!!
Thank you very much! Cheers.
Cedar strip canoes are one of my favouritye builds to watch, and this one is exceptional.
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Hello good sir, Where can I find the canvas you use to seal the cedar strips? An can I ask what kind of epoxy you use to cover the canvas?
That is called fibreglass cloth and can be purchased at your local boat building supply store. I used West System epoxy resin. Cheers.
beautiful canoe.
Very nice job, absolutely fantastic craftsmanship. Surprised I didn’t see you fit an insulation though, why not out of interest?
Thank you! If I recall, the insulation part was just not that interesting and I needed to wear a mask so decided to skip recording it. I used Rockwool insulation and had to split it in half to fit in the 2x2” wall studs. On the roof, I was able to fit the full insulation sheet as the trusses are thicker. Cheers.
