Erdbeertorte - Strawberry Cake
Welcome to letter "E" of our Desserts A to Z!
I see cakes with meringue more in Germany than I do here in the Canadian Prairies and I often wonder why... it's a delicious component to any cake, my favourite being a rhubarb with meringue (ua-cam.com/video/YVniju7ev0M/v-deo.htmlsi=jOIj23Fv2qmWUmkP), but this recipe comes a close second.
I would say this is a special occasion cake, it'll stun your guests with the layers!
Meringue is originally French and appeared in the English language in 1706. There are also different types of meringue: French meringue, or basic meringue, most common for home cooks. Fine white sugar is beaten into egg whites.
Italian meringue was invented in 1604, made with boiling sugar syrup, instead of caster sugar and used in things like baked Alaska.
Swiss meringue is whisked over a bain-marie and makes for a marshmallow-like meringue.

      yes, there is! Thank you for catching that - 300g of flour and 30g of cornflour for the dough, they are to be added after the milk and oil, mix well and continue with the recipe video.

    I made these into pinwheel cookies. I stacked the rolled out chocolate dough over the rolled out white and then rolled it up like a log and wrapped it and refrigerated it overnight. I cut them and baked them them the next day. They’re delicious!

      Because of the salt content, it should last about a year! Once you've opened the jar, keep it in the fridge.

      I add the paste to soups/broths, scrambled eggs, omelettes, herb breads/buns. Just know that it's quite a strong smelling/tasting herb, so I would start off using less in a recipe until you've figured out how much you like.

      If you treat this recipe like you would when you're canning, so sterilizing everything and making sure your jars pop, I would say about 6 months (conservatively) since it's got quite a bit of sugar in it to act as a preservative.

    What can you do with cinnamon syrup? Put it in coffee?

      Adding it to coffee is a great idea! You could also add it to a bowl of oatmeal or steel cut oats, as a topping for ice cream, pancakes or waffles.

      @@kochloffelandnudelholz3729 I used to see canned cherries at Safeway, but those were pricey. They are a treat for sure. Even frozen ones aren't cheap. Have to check again to see what's available.

      Yes and if you make sure that your utensils are super clean when making this recipe your syrup will last a while.
