      Yes, in fact, you can bring anyone you want to most military resort facilities and in most cases, sponsor one or more rooms as needed. Always best to contact the facility, just to confirm their policy, but I have sponsored rooms for non-military friends at Hale Koa Resort.

    Another question. On the Space A sign up form it asks you to select country destination choices. The Seattle IAP AMC Patriot Express has flights to both Kadena AB and Yokota AB in Japan on the same day. So, with that, I can choose which flight to Japan based on availability and roll call?

    • @CliffWagner
      @CliffWagner 12 днів тому

      Start by watching the Space-A Boot Camp series of videos (4). ua-cam.com/video/spPZ_GaInXA/v-deo.html Much of your potential for a good Space-A experience rests on where you start and where you want to go. For example, many parts of the country are Space-A deserts with little or no Space-A options, so depending on your destination, you will need to get to passenger terminal that has a frequency of flights to your destination. If you were seeking to take the family to Hawaii, I would recommend that you fly commercially to Travis AFB, CA and catch one of their flights that frequently fly to HI. Alternatively, if you wanted to go to Japan, I would recommend that you fly to Seattle and catch the PA from SETAC that fly's with frequency to Japan and Osan. Alternatively, if you wanted to get to Germany, several options exist on the east coast, but you would probably need to fly commercially on the first leg of that flight.

    Hello. What is the significance of the date and time sign up on the roll call list?

    • @CliffWagner
      @CliffWagner 15 днів тому

      That is another indicator of the level of competition as it "should" reflect the date and time of the sign up of the lowest category of space a passenger selected. So if you are seeing a CAT VI passenger who signed up the day prior or day of travel, you can tell competition for seats was not very high. If everyone who showed up got a seat, then this information is less useful. I say that it "should" reflect (above) because some passenger terminals input data more accurately than do others. Hope that helps!

    wife and I went to Anchorage Alaska(Elmendorf) during a heat wave(June) that was going to hit the Bay area. It was a good time to get out of town. We spent 2 weeks in Anchorage and the surrounding areas, sightseeing. Even during the supposed high season of PCS movement it is still possible to get to Alaska from Travis. WE ended up taking a c17 with about 20 people and 53 seats released.

      Naval Air Station North Island has occasional flights to Hawaii, depending on your eligibility, Hawaii is a great jump off point with lots of flights to the Pacific Rim as well as many flights to the East Coast. If necessary, you can jump a cheap Southwest Airlines flight to Travis AFB and decide where you want to go from there.

      Small Space-A terminals do get what I call "Unicorn Flights" that is to say, once in a blue moon, a great outbound flight pops up to a great location. The best advise I have heard is take the first think smoking going in your general direction. As a California resident, if I am in Hawaii returning to CA and if I am on a strict schedule, I will either take commercial or any Space-A flight going to the west coast. Could end up in Washington State or SoCal, then I would be prepared to fly, bus or train to get home.

      I'm going to assume that you are referring to my reference to Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) - you are correct, these agreements don't address disabled veterans and it is EXACTLY because they are silent on the status of disabled veterans that they can not extend eligibility to the disabled veteran community in those foreign countries. As far as disabled veterans being in the lowest Space-A category, that has always been the case since 2019. They are in the same category (CAT 6) as reservists, gray area reservists, retirees active and reserve, widows and pretty much everybody not active duty.

    Hello Cliff, I watched your great video about Space A travel recently opening up to Category VI PTD veterans. I looked at the DODI 4515.13 page 49 to ensure that my particular category doesn't allow OCONUS foreign destinations. It's true as you stated. Representative Bilirakis from FL who was responsible for amendment H.R. 936 contributed such an amazing change, however that bill in the Subcomittee limited travel to only CONUS destinations for PTD's. I'm trying to research WHY in an effort to convince my Representative to advocate for PTD's Space-A abroad. Maybe you understand why they limited travel to CONUS for PTD's? I researched a bit, so military base as port of entry, without Customs Agents (is this right?) to allow entry into another country, such category as mine, without a SOFA card, might be the reason behind this restriction? Yet, Medically Retired are able to Space-A abroad, so what could be the logistical reason for this destination limitation on Cat VI PTD's in particular? I looked up SOFA, but it's application is for residence on military base inside host country. In a foreign country (on base), isn't arrival as Cat VI PTD with valid passport, and DOD ID sufficient? Cat VI Retired is able to arrive from CONUS to OCONUS, so how is this any different? I appreciate any time and contribution to this issue you have, it is be greatly appreciated! S

    E4 mafia story. Bane of existence, field exercise. ALOCs are where the highest form of shamming was required, because everyone there was accomplished, and the NCO's knew it, and work extra hard to defeat conventional shamming. The especially treasured snagging an e4 to run a detail with privates. So, we planned and worked to keep a tame, about to ETS Major on hand at the ALOC instead o going to schmooze at the head shed. This guy was on his way out and dint care about scoring points. We set him up extra comfy, kept him supplied him with acquired T ration Coffee Cake and extra pogey bait so just in case a wandering NCO came through the ALOC looking for a detail, he'd come out of hibernation like a grump bear protecting his cubs and saying he needed us for immediate operations. Being a major, he didn't really give a crap about who came looking--he might have paid attention to a Sergeant Major, but it's not like they were out pounding the ground to fil up details.

      You monitor both the 30 Day and 72 Hour Flight Schedules. The Patriot Express Flights are listed on the 30 Day Flight Schedule and then pop onto the 72 Hour Flight Schedule, so if you are flying on a date that coincides with a PE flight you will know.

    Point of clarification. Status of Forces Agreements only address jurisdiction of U.S. military personnel present in a country under the authority of the Secretary of Defense (title 10). This does not apply to retirees or even serving members on something like vacation / on a tourist visa. There are two documents you need to review before going to any foreign country outside of military orders and those the Foreign Clearance Guide and the State Department travel advisory page for that country. The FCG delineates the diplomatic protections of all U.S. citizens by category, like title 10 active duty, title 10 government civilian, service member on leave, tourist, etc. We do not have SOFAs with every country-even those we have military flights into. The FCG will spell out what passport and visa requirements may exist and what customs procedures may look like, as well as which country’s jail you may spend the rest of your days in if you get into a bar fight or get into a minor fender bender.

      Dang it… I meant to say title 10 is SecDef, not SecState, which would be title 22.

      Yes, after a bit of research on SOFA, you are absolutely right. I thought a port-of-entry issue may be the reason they don't allow 100% P&T access to Space-A abroad (no customs agent to stamp your passport on base). However, how does this explain why Retiree's have access to Space-A abroad for leisure but P&T don'y have this same access to Space-A abroad for leisure? Both categories, as civilians have a DOD ID's. Retiree's don't get a SOFA card, or stamp, correct?? If not, what is the issue that is distinct to not allowing P&T veteran's flying to foreign countries? I want to better understand the situation so I can more effectively communicate with my Representative.

    The efforts of the democrat party to break up the "E-4Mafia" were quite successful. They greatly reduced the overall staffing of units, thus making it nearly impossible for soldiers to "sham away into the ether." The only escape was through seperation or promotion.

    Makes sense. When you're either retired or 100% P&T you're also considered a civilian and not covered under SOFA for travel to foreign countries. To legally enter a foreign country you would have to enter that country through a legal port of entry and process through their customs and immigration. Congress cannot dictate the entry/exit requirements of a foreign country. We are the only country on earth that doesn't enforce immigration laws.

      @@shellynichols593 I'm not sure if retirees can fly space A to foreign bases unless they only plan on visiting relatives assigned to that base without leaving the base. How could they leave that base to travel inside the foreign country without processing through that country's immigration? If they were picked up for a traffic violation with no record of lawful entry they could be charged with espionage. I'm just letting my imagination run wild here because I really don't know. I left the service in 1970 so I'm sure all the rules have been changed many times since then. I only served one enlistment but have been rated at 100% T&P since 2012. Yes, service connected disabilities do get worse over time. I've never considered space A as an option even for domestic travel because at my age getting bumped from a military flight and sitting in a ready room for a week waiting for an available flight just won't work. I've flown space A while on active duty and sitting in a cargo net in the back of a C-130 for 12 hours is not a good way to save money unless you're a broke 20 year old with no other options. Back in those days all you had to do was show them a military ID and ask if they had space for you on that flight. In Vietnam you didn't even have to show an ID if you were in uniform I was stuck at an Army base in Phu Bai and went to the flight line and asked if anything was going to Marble Mountain in Da Nang and the guy behind the desk pointed at a group of UH-1 helicopters and said yeah, those guys are. I ran over and shouted at the door gunner "Da Nang?" and he waved at me to come on and jump in. It was only a 10 minute flight and a lot safer than trying to thumb a ride in truck over the mountain.

    How do corporals fit into the E-4 Mafia?

    • @CliffWagner
      @CliffWagner Місяць тому

      That depends chiefly on the Corporal. Most folks end up a Corporal because they are hard charging and motivated, generally on track for promotion to E-5. The defining charachteristic of those in the E-4 Mafia is that they care more about shamming than promoting.
