Good Fish are in the Still Water #flyfishing #trout #troutfishing #fishing #nature #outdoors #fish
Well this day changed as soon as it started, the spot i wanted to fish had already been hit by a bus load of people so i had to find a section where no one fishes. The still water is a great holding place for larger fish working these areas can be harder due to lack of flow. If you have any questions or comments drop them below and as always thank you for watching and stay safe out there.

You sure got me and Dean beat recently. Nice fish! Informative video💪💪
its been rough lately, every day the river is super pressured around here 5 dudes to a hole. I have been finding going slow has been bring me success dragging the bottom. Good luck to you guys on your next trip out.
I wish we had smallies where I live in Ga , I’ve never got to fish for them
smallies are a great fish, im sure there is a some great fishing there in GA. this was in CO.
Love catching those brown girls!
they sure are a great fish
My first rainbow was a 25&1/2"!
nice there are some big ones out there, usually bigger ones in higher elevation lakes like 32 inch and 15-20 lbs
Awesome smallmouth man! Definitely one of the species I miss the most being down south now.
they are a great fish, you lack the smallies but loaded variety there one day i will fish the salt again.
Gorgeous bronze back, brother 👍
thank you there a great fish
Why not bring it to eat? Why not bring it to eat?
i have a few in the freezer, they sure are tasty though with butter and limon.
Every time I’m fishing and see a big old fatty I always get so excited like a little kid.
that's great, the excitement that keep you wanting to fish
What was your rig/ lure
@JacksonRieck that day was a perdigon nymph they work great in tight areas, the rod was the inyo from keiryu with one of my hand made leaders.
Nice catch!! Always nice to see people showing respect to the fish 😊
@ritsukacoulon thank and thank it's not a easy thing to handle them right.
Good eats
they sure are go well with any kind of fish or by them self
Totally not impressive 😂
just a fish in a net
Congrats on 3K subscribers...
thank you
Wow, amazing fishing... Loved it. That 19inch + rainbow was amazing... Greetings from Cape Town...
greetings from colorado, thank you got love those big beautys
@outdoorswithjustin True story..
Do you prefer a single nymph/indicator rig or double?
when it comes to how i rig up i normally run a single weighted nymph, when im not using just 1 i will run a midge or a non weighted fly above a weighted one. when i use a indicator im normally running a double or a single depending on the flies big buggers are single in my book due to how they need to be fished, smaller bugs anything above 16 in size i will run 2 larger flies 12 and 14 i run single. hope this helps.
@ Sounds similar to how I set mine up. I usually toss the weighted nymph above my unweight. I’ll swap them how you run it and test it out. Thanks! Love the content
@@RoamingTaco thank you good luck out there and stay safe
Amazing day! That was so much fun to watch,Congratulations. Oh and Merry Fishmas.
@@FlyGuy420-l1j thanks it sure was a day and a half. Happy holidays and good luck on your next trip out.
There must be hundreds of fish in that river, is it stocked? Because its in a built up area I'd have expected to have seen a lot more people there. Do you ever eat any of your catch?
@tonycamplin8607 there was probably 5000 fish in that area, that is the usual amount they drop in one place around here. They stock 30,000 rainb9w trout that are 10inches long in this river a year 5k in 3 places twice a year. I do eat the fish I catch I just don't make to many videos on that just don't get to many view on them. There is allot of people that fish this river it gets hit hard every year, people mainly want to catch the bigger fish here like 20inchers. The river is the Arkansas River in Colorado.
@@outdoorswithjustin I was under the impression that that particular stretch of The Ark was catch and release only?
@chrisbegger8684 there is a portion that is but not this stretch, pueblo Blvd to Valco bridge is the only gold metal catch and release area in the tail water of the reservoir. There are some good fish up there and allot of guide pressure.
@@outdoorswithjustin good to know, thank you
@@outdoorswithjustin Thanks for the detailed reply.
Wow, you nailed them! Looks like the perfect river size and flow and in town (not sure what city you live?). I'm not a fly fisherman but this was still so fun to watch. Congrats on fishing and an interesting video to capture everything.
@kentfonda8245 thanks Kent it was a great day, the river is one of the biggest in Colorado its the Arkansas River and it has been my favorite place to fish and play for a long time. Thank you for watching.
great catches
@@destortoise thank you they just about wore me out.
Barbless ?

Congrats on the 3K subs, and even more congrats on that nice big trout at the end of your vid. I love the Tenkara vids, keep em coming (your other vids are cool too though, just sayin)
@coachkevinwilson1958 thank you it's been a uphill battle. Tenkara is fun but around here it's a flip of the coin getting broke off or landing a monster. I fish all the ways you can fish there all my favorites. Thank you for commenting
@@outdoorswithjustin Right now, my heaviest rod is the Dragontail Hellbender, which is fine for bass. But, big trout for me means that I need to visit the great lakes and fish for steelhead, browns, and lake trout. I need a beefier rod for them, and I think that I'm going to invest in the Tenkara Rod Co. Rocky. I'm not so worried about break offs, but rather, the rod breaking with my current Tenkara rods. But, when a trophy is hooked, I'm skeptical still if the Rocky can handle one. I'll let you know if or when it happens. Best wishes.
@coachkevinwilson1958 I always stay to the right tippet and never over rig my rods, you would be surprised how big of fish you can get on light tippet. Biggest so far 22 inch brown, and a carp that was probably 9lbs on 4x tippet with the t100 keiryu rod.
@@outdoorswithjustin Thanks Justin!

That is the most calmest rusty crayfish I ever seen, unlike I put them on my hand they pinch the fuck out of me.
that what happens, the river around here is cold so there a little slow and lucky there not food.
i always make my buggers more complicated than this and: yours seems to be the way to go lol. you could tie 20 in an hour. good stuff.
@mvsc-k5e there is always a different way to tie something I got started tying them like this cause I didn't have any hackle that was right, besides the marabou swims great. Thanks commenting.
man i love that rod. i know people knock fixed line fishing but it’s a thrill and a bit less of a hassle. still love my western rods but the best smallmouth I caught all year was on the T100
it is a great rod and can catch some great fish. go for a carp next there quite a fight.
@ my carp rod is the Wasatch Rodzilla lol. just a big fan of this style of fishing
@@mvsc-k5e nice i have the pheonix from wasatch it;s not a great rod way to flexible the one rod i really dont want to make a video of.
@ you might like the Rodzilla then; it’s as flexible as a 2x4 lol
@@mvsc-k5e there is allot to making a good rod, to stiff and it cant cast without weight, flexible it can break or land a fish but can cast small flies. im not partial to any companies i just dont like Wasatch rods.
There's allot of nature lol most of the Earth doesn't have humans on it we're all packed together
there is allot of water out there too, we are all packed in tight but more and more of wild areas being turned into city's or polluted by them.
@outdoorswithjustin nature will still out live us though, we probably didn't have much longer as a species
*dont
Agreed we’ve completely decimated nature as a species and it’s sick, so yah he’s right, not a lot of nature left we need to preserve what’s left for our children and their children.
Stupid comment. @CROOKEDCOPMEDIA
Too bad it’s not a rainbow 😂😂😂
@jeramybrown9760 lol thanks
Interesting and entertaining! Up by Valco I caught some fish about the size of your swimbait🙃
@johnlaudenslager706 lol I was catching a bunch of those little ones as well one day a few weeks ago and some monster swam up and tried to eat the little ones as they were hitting surfacing. Good to hear from you as always hope things are going good.
In the uk a brown trout is a floating poop. I guess a rainbow trout is a one laid by a …
lol to many names for fish.
I thought carp only ate corn and crawdads haha
carp eat trout buddy that's all the eat lol this one hit like a real fish. there was a story of someone trolling the rez and they keep catching carp all in the mouth on rattle traps.
You just let dinner swim away.
@frolfenuugen4lyfe I eat them all the time, some get a pass for a little while but it will be eaten by someone
@outdoorswithjustin Good stuff, man. I didn't think of it, but I do the same thing with teenaged size, deer, elk, n moose. Let them get a little bigger n live a little. 👍
@frolfenuugen4lyfe that's the way to look at it, respecting the land and what it can provide. Thank you for commenting.
Yea it does kind of look like a Brown trout but I work on a trout farm and you wouldn’t believe all the different colors and looks of rainbow trout. We got easily over 50K lbs of trout on our farm. Fun job :)
@thatonekid8765 lol that's allot of trout, thanks for commenting
That would be a brown trout not a rainbow
Good try lol
A brown has bigger dots on the skin
@@ronikeda2004 they sure do and a much more gold color to the skin then a rainbow.
I like how they don't mention they are fishing out of the sewage section of the platte...you can't get the stink out of your nose for a week when you leave
@andywiggens1069 lol that's funny and I always try to not say the place. The Platte and fountain creek has the same smell all of the larger rivers smell like this in the rundown cause it's all treated water basicly winter is the worst time for fish. Over pressure from fishing and poor water quality. Thanks for commenting.
Nice video! You really did make it look easy with those beautiful dead drifts. Also really impressed how quickly you got that 20" rainbow in.
the landing of that fish had to do with the line length when doing tenkara / keiryu the longer the line the harder the land the fish. the drift are easy when you dont have to controls a line with your hand just a rod kinda fun too.
Fun video. Nice fish! My favorite creek nymphing rod is a 12' Tenkara rod, too. Keeps it simple primitive cave man hunter/fisher grrrrrrr and also 🧘♂

Interesting, unique experiment for tenkara/keiryu line💪💪 I started tenkara with 'tenkara line', fluorocarbon by modern tenkara tradition. Since traditional tenkara uses unweighted flies, the relative stiffness and density of fluorocarbon compared to nylon helped with casting. But I preferred using weighted flies and found that regular nylon monofilament was good because lighter (less dense), making it still easy to cast and easier to hold line off the water, the usual thing to do with tenkara. 10#-14/15# nylon mono like yellow Stren or red or green Amnesia worked OK, and would half ass float if was windy enough to want to put the line on the water, and better if greased with a regular leader/line floatant. Yes, your way is interesting - something I need to try when I get back to using a tenkara rod, so thanks for the innovative heads up!
that sure is allot the amnesia works but with stiffer rods it don't get the power going unless you got the weight, the mono and fluro ways is good and simple and you can use it as a sighter. Thank you for all of the info sharing your experience.
Thank you for a very interesting video. Always fun to see some keiryu fishing. And what a nice fish! The rod semed to handle it without a problem
your welcome, the T100 can handle some good fish biggest fish on it was a 22 inch brown trout back a while ago. thank you for watching.
