Nice video. I like to have a bit of tape on the jack leg as a marker, so I can stop retracting just before the jack would smack into the end of travel. I also found the switches aren’t very water proof and if there was a hard rain followed by overnight freeze they wouldn’t work until thawed. One of those covers is worth having.

Never run these to the end of its travel and leave it there, it binds up and will never develop the torque to free itself. If you do run to the end of the travel, back it off a bit so it’s not torqued at full stop.

overall, quite disappointed in the lack of waterproofness on this unit. how can you design and sell a jack like this knowing it will fill with water and potentially rust itself together. the shop was able to loosen the lead screw nut on my assembly, so i can put it back together today. I did the CHF with a video. ua-cam.com/video/hDljCtc0Gqk/v-deo.html That helped with the swaying. I also just put on 4 Koni shocks that really improved the ride. As for trucks, move over to the line when they are approaching and notice that they will do the same creating a larger gap and getting rid of the air push. Same thing on a 2 lane road heading toward each other, open the gap and loose the push. If you are passing on the left go to the left line. I get 5.5-6.5 mpg towing.

On a big bump the tires will actually raise right up to the frame. On a trip the right tire caught the silver sound proofing and tore it out. I've never fixed it and the insulation I used is water proof and is doing fine. I did put a high quality carpet and pad in the cockpit area. This made a huge difference with the noise and with the heat from the engine. It is also a constant battle to keep the engine cover tight which keeps a lot of noise out.

Normal for us is 51/2-61/2 mpg towing our 4 door Jeep Wrangler with two adults, 3 large dogs and maybe about a quarter tank of fresh water. Hi there. Thank you so much for the how-to video. It is very helpful. I have watched your video doing the CHF with the adapter plates you purchased. I was wondering how much of a difference it made in your handling performance. Are you happy with the difference it made? I know that everyone that has done the CHF without these adapter plates (at least 100% of all of the reviews I have read about it) have been extremely happy with the difference saying the handling difference is almost night and day. However, yours is the only how-to video that I have seen using these adapter plates and yours is the only how-to video that even MENTIONS the loss of height with the leveling jacks in doing the CHF without the plates. Is that the only fix that these plates provide? I am very interested in your review of the CHF with the adapter plates. Thanks so much!

    • @katskamper9739

IRV2 forums have thousands of responses on the CHF from when it was first discovered. You really need to extend the links so that the bar sits correctly. One person cut and rewelded his using iron pipe as an extension. You might be able to find longer models of the links or use something like these brackets. I definitely like the brackets. Yes I think the handling is improved quite a bit. Something else I just discovered (others may say no kidding). When a truck is passing you, you will notice they move a little left. I always figured the were afraid of me. If you move a little right (don't go off the road) you will get almost no push from the passing truck.

@@katskamper9739 Good morning! Thank you for your reply and for the information. I have seen lots of reviews of the 'standard' CHF fix and everybody raves about it. I just haven't seen any with the brackets which is why I asked for your review. I have been in touch with TeJay and all the plates he makes today have a top plate that is high enough (4") to keep the stabilizer bar close to level so someone does not have to extend the links themselves. And thanks for the top on moving right when a truck passes. I'll definitely try to incorporate that into my driving habits. Thanks again! Have a great day and stay safe.

I was just watching another video about towing the Jeep. One advantage of the bumper attachment system is that I didn't need an adaptor for my hitch to raise or lower the receiver for my towbar. If I had used a base plate I would have had to use a drop down hitch adapter on the rv for the tow bar to attach to. Something like this www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Plow-by-Meyer-2-in-Receiver-Hitch-Extension-with-4-in-Drop-Rise-FHK45054/203258013?mtc=Shopping-B-F_D28I-B-D28I-28_33_CHORE-MULTI-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-BASE_SHP&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D28I-B-D28I-28_33_CHORE-MULTI-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-BASE_SHP-71700000047860582-58700004785428560-92700045004244386&msclkid=b9f7f1c0d3381b1e1a2daf9b78e8ab18&gclid=CLTa1tak-ecCFVvktQodlxQB_Q&gclsrc=ds

It's a bit of money whether you go for a dolly or flat tow. The most expensive part was the bumper because we went Aluminum. The 4 door Wrangler weighs about 4500 lbs and our tow capacity is 5000 lbs. We didn't want a to add too much weight, you could use a base plate and save at least a thousand dollars. I highly recommend Etrailer.com for their customer service. They will price match/beat amazon prices. Now the costs. Rock Hard Aluminum Bumper $1600 Blue Ox BX 7420 Tow Bar $ 975 Hopkins Brake Light Kit $ 73 Brake Buddy Stealth HM39530 $900 On the Wrangle you have to disconnect the battery during towing so we installed a switch under the hood. There is a less expensive Blue Ox tow bar that will work but this one is longer allowing for tighter turns. Also with this system there is a pump to recharge your vacuum break line and it keeps your battery charged. My wife helps hook up and disconnect the Jeep. She works the right side and me the left. It takes about 3 mins max to hook up or disconnect. It's easy enough that she has put the Jeep in place and hooked everything up while I was walking the dogs. All I had to do was disconnect the transmission and leave the key on. And yes we installed this ourselves.

Kats - thanks for showing your setup! Looks very similar to mine! I just finished an install for our 2020 class C. I have owned a 2001 Wrangler since it was nearly new - kept in the garage as a second vehicle for about 17 years, so it's in great shape and LOW miles! The "big ticket" items were a Blue Ox Alpha 6,500# rated tow bar (new in box Craigslist - $300), baseplate ($410) and the Invisibrake auxiliary braking system ($840). I installed everything myself - including baseplate, brake light diodes and brake switch relay, which my Jeep required. My Jeep weighs only 3,400 pounds, so the baseplate weight wasn't a killer. Total expense was a little over $1,800 including wiring kit, light socket, etc. (CHEAP!!) I have heard horror stories of over $5,000 for "professionally" installed setups! This install isn't too hard if you're mechanically minded, but can be quite a knuckle buster! The hardest part on mine was drilling a couple holes in the frame - which wasn't too bad. I tend to be a perfectionist, so running the wiring took FOREVER! I used "liquid electrical tape" (GREAT stuff) and shrink tubing to seal all the exposed wire connections, and a LOT of zip ties. I also installed a toggle switch disconnect at the battery. All told, I spent nearly 4 days getting everything finished. I'm retired, so my labor is cheap :-) I went to a large abandoned parking lot for a good test, and all seemed a-ok. We're taking a 200+ mile trip soon for our "shake down" trip. IMPORTANT! If you are not comfortable taking on this challenge, go to one of the certified installers. Mistakes and shortcuts with a project like this could cost you (or someone else) their life!

Ditto; this Bozeman looks like it has a looser basket and lid than the Yosemite. Also, wetting the basket before pouring in the ground coffee helps retain the grounds. Also also, a slightly courser grind ("percolator grind," if it's still sold, or manually ground) is usually recommended. The paper filters may be needed if all one has is regular pre-ground coffee for drip machines.

Go on the IRV2.com forum site and search for a member named TeJay. He makes them and sells them.

Will do, we have a trip soon that's eight hours away, that should be a good test.

Thanks for taking the time to film & share the video. I just bought one tonight but it DOESN'T work. I watched your video to see if maybe it was something I was doing wrong (although I followed the directions to a T) I did exactly what you did, I turned the power on selected the ice & walked away, apparently I got a defective one so I will be returning/exchanging which is a shame because I bought it so I could make ice TONIGHT for my camping trip tomorrow. I guess I'll go pay $5 per bag of ice all week! 🤦‍♀️

It's unfortunate but now days there are always a few lemons and someone ends up getting one. Sorry it was you this time. We had not used ours for a while and our fridge died. It took almost three weeks to get it fixed and we were running our ice maker non stop the whole time.

I had a similar issue. I don't have an impact wrench and could not get the jack to budge with a breaker bar. I took the jack apart, grabbed a punch and punched out the pin that holds the lifting mechanism in place. Once the pin was out I backed off the nut and put it all back together. It is working fine now. From now on I will lift the jack to the top then lower it just a smidge so I know it is not bound up.
