We are happy we are finally getting to explore parts of Canada we have never seen before. Exploring downtown Calgary and eating and drinking some of the delicious things the city has to offer was a blast! We wish we would have more time! Let us know if we missed any staple foods or drinks. Do you have a favourite restaurant in Calgary? In our next video we will be eating some more Canadian food. Don't miss it! Thanks for watching! 😊 - Brandon & Anja
I moved from Toronto to Calgary in 2000, for my job (I'm a now-retired professor of sociology at the U of Calgary). I had immigrated to Canada (from the US) in 1997. I loved, and still love, Toronto and agree that Kensington Market is SPECIAL. There are too many hip strips in Toronto to count and every one is brilliant. But Calgary punches above its weight especially as a city that only became "big" after WW2 and has evolved lots of walkable neighbourhoods that are, to my taste, plenty "hipster." The coffee scene in Calgary is resplendent and I think that Sought x Found, on Centre St just north of the Bow RIver, is the best coffeehouse in Canada. You didn't visit Inglewood or Ramsay on your trip and I urgently recommend both- they're old and have a Queen St East vibe. Cold Garden is a...it's a sort of brewpub but there's nothing like it in Montreal, Toronto, or anywhere, really. Anyway I loved your respectful review but hope you don't think Calgary is just "fancy." I'd love to meet you folks (ich kann auch deutsch!).
It's hard to truly get the vibe of a city while only really spending a day and a half exploring. We enjoyed what we saw, but we'd like to come back in the future and check out some of these areas that we missed the first go around. We've had lots of great suggestions, so far! I'll make sure to mark Sought x Found on our Google Maps for next time. My sister lives in Edmonton, so I image we'll be back to Alberta again in the future. We really want to check out the Stampede at some point, even if it's a bit touristy, I feel like it's a must do at least once. It'll likely be at least two years before we're back though. We always post about where we're going to be on our community page, so if we end up going back, just shoot us a message! Thanks for watching!
I've lived in Calgary my entire life and I'm always a little confused by people who think of this city as "posh" or "fancy" but then you only visited the most commercially friendly parts of town. And the cooler parts of town you did visit have been pretty gentrified. Maybe check out Forest Lawn if less fancy is what you're after.
I mean..after spending three weeks in Edmonton, followed by being surrounded by junkies faceplanted everywhere in the streets of Vancouver, it certainly felt posh. 😆 We've had lots of great suggestions for our next trip, so we are excited to check them out. Ultimately, this was a Calgary food video, where we were trying to track down foods from the city. The goal this time wasn't to see as many areas as we could. The areas we did see, in this video, and those we saw when we weren't filming, felt more posh than a lot of other Canadian cities we've seen. We only actually had a day and a half to explore. To get the true vibe of the city, we will have to return and spend more time there. Thanks for watching!
If you go back you should go to Inglewood you’d probably really enjoy that area plus you can try spolumbo’s! Also recommend going to the Calgary farmers market in Blackfoot lots of amazing food there!! If you rent a car I also recommend going to Cochrane it’s just outside Calgary and has amazing famous ice cream! Calgary has a lot of great places you just have to leave downtown to go to some of them!
Thanks for the suggestions! We definitely hope to come back some day. We wanted to go to a farmers market, but we were filming on a Monday, so I'm pretty sure they were all closed. We LOVE a good market! Since we went to Banff on a day trip, we only really had a day and a half to explore Calgary, which wasn't nearly enough. We'd happily come back and explore more of the cities, and surrounding areas. My sister actually lives in Edmonton, so we plan to frequent Alberta in the future.
Kensington (Calgary) I feel was a lot dirtier and better like 15-20 years ago, but folks got priced out over the years, I don't think any of my favourite restaurants are there anymore. Sniff around North East Calgary next time and find some ethnic foods, like Mamak Dang for some really nice Malaysian food, Pho Xuan in Marlborough was always my favourite Vietnamese place, though I haven't been in a while, plenty of nice Indian restaurants too, a growing number of Korean chicken places, and shawarma too. Hope you folks come back and try some more off the beaten track stuff.
i moved to Calgary from Edmonton for school and work and love living here. it is a lot more businessy as you said. Edmonton does have a better subculture scene. been here 20 years and never have been to the Calgary Tower! LOL
That's crazy. Hahaha. I lived in Toronto for 5 years, and only went up the CN Tower a week or two before I moved. 😅 We actually quite enjoyed both cities. My sister lives in Edmonton, so we plan on visiting there frequently in between our travels.
Yeah, we never actually planned on going there originally! We were wiped from our previous day in Banff, so when we passed by and saw the price, we decided to grab something there- rather than head all of the way to Buchanan's Chop House. Thanks for the suggestion for next time!
Just found your channel. Love your vibes. Excellent presentation of the city and surroundings, restaurants, and food. Can't wait to watch the rest of your vlogs!

We don't have a Patreon currently, but we do have a "Buy Me A Coffee" for anyone who wants to support. Thanks for watching!
I don't think we visit Bridgeland! That's the problem with having such a short trip. We can only really judge by the day and a half we actually had to explore, which isn't nearly enough to get to know a city. The locals always know best, but unfortunately, we didn't know anyone from Calgary to recommend cool neighborhoods and bars. We will have to check out Bridgeland next time! Any specific recommendations there?
I just had breakfast and after seeing all the amazing food you ate I'm now hungry and I'm thinking about going to meat and bread I'll wait a little bit longer though also you wanted to see a place of like graffiti and stuff I would recommend high park in Calgary also there's a really good smoothie/milkshake place near High park
The Palace is THE BEST place for concerts in Calgary. Judging by the shirt I think you'd love it. Last time I was there it was Mudvayne and Nonpoint. You went to pretty mid places. Calgary has so many better places.
There was actually a show we wanted to go to, less than a WEEK from when we were there. Just missed it! We would have loved to have went out in Calgary. It's one of the best ways to get to know a city for sure. We weren't in Calgary nearly long enough to really get the proper vibe. We have gotten some great suggestions for next time, though.
I (Brandon) am from Halifax, but have also lived in Toronto and in Saskatoon. ALL of the winters suck, but they all feel a bit different. Saskatoon was probably the worst. I imagine Calgary is similar! There are things I miss about living back home in Canada, but the winter is not one of them. 😂
Had no idea Calgary was such a large city. That Caesar had one cupcake too many. Ha, ha. Like you, I've seen Bloody Mary's with burgers etc. That is just silly. The spice in B. Mary is horseradish, yum. Liked mine with just celery stick but olives and shrimp are fine. Ginger beef sounds delish, but I agree the meat to batter ratio looks off. Hi from sunny Oregon.
Yeah, the crazy Caesar was just for a fun thumbnail, but it honestly wasn't worth it. It wasn't a BAD Caesar, but for the price, we've had far better. It wasn't spicy enough, or strong enough. The additional things are just a gimmick. You're right though, classic is the best! Olives, celery, and extra spicy is my favorite. The ginger beef was really good! I can imagine it'd be amazing if the beef was cut a bit more thick. Thanks for watching!
We had never even visited Alberta before, so we were really happy to see Edmonton, Banff, and Calgary on this trip. Though we wish we had more time there! Although we know it's touristy, we really wanna come back for the Stampede one year. Even though from what we've heard, the food there is expensive AF! 😅
Great seeing Calgary, brings back some happy memories. Just a suggestion on the video though - you have included quite a few rapid jump cuts - IMO there are too many and too short. Looking forward to the next one though.
We're currently using a free program for subtitles, and for this particular program, the videos need to be under 20 minutes to use it. If we make videos longer than that, we have to use UA-cams subtitling system, which is pretty trash..hahaha. Sometimes I get carried away, trying to make sure the video is under the 20. 😂
Hahaha. The joy of UA-cam video titling! Ginger beef is pretty iconic, though! You can find it in pretty much any Chinese-Canadian fast food spot around Canada. It's so good. 🤤
Still binge watching. I'm a world apart from you guys it feels, especially with food places. As I said in one comment, you may not have read so I'll repeat, I was born and raised in Panama City, FL, USA and was raised on seafood. Panama City Beach is relatively famous for Georgia, Alabama and lots of southern cities. And if you ever go there, there is a restaurant called Capt. Anderson's. It's famous with a lot of celebrities as well as locals. It closes part of the year, and it's too expensive anymore, but the seafood is wonderful. (My sister married into that family, we got to eat for free there, then she divorced and no more free meals. That was long ago.) I live about an hour away from Atlanta, GA now, in a tiny town that has nothing in the way of food and drink like you show on your videos. I love watching you; moments ago, I got so hungry that I ran to the 'fridge and got some carrot hummus that I love and ate some spoonfuls. But I was salivating watching you guys eat. No matter where you go in the world, I find that there is something I wish I could get here. Safe travels!
My brother-in-laws parents live in Atlanta! And my aunt, and all of her kids, have been living in Florida the past 30+ years. We're long overdue for a trip to that part of the country. Anja actually used to work in Florida, at Disney. Hopefully one day we'll head that way, and spend a month or two exploring that south. We have plenty more food videos where that came from! And many more to come. We've been traveling pretty non-stop these past few months, and have videos coming from at least a dozen countries over the next several months (including Andorra, Germany, Poland, Scotland, Netherlands, Turkey, Georgia, UAE and more). We always watch food videos on an empty stomach, an it's always a bad idea! Hahaha. But hummus and carrots are delicious as well. And a lot more healthy than most of this stuff! Haha.
I knew it was Canadian, but I didn't know it was invented in Calgary! That would have been a great addition. I actually love pineapple on pizza. Anja likes the slight sweetness that comes from the pineapple juice on the pizza, but if there are big chunks, she throws them my way. Another underrated sweet addition to a pizza is figs. We had a "Dalmatian Pizza" in Croatia, with fresh figs on it. Oh man..so good!

That's absolutely not how a Caesar should be made. Omg, I'm so embarrassed that they served it to you with all sh*t on the top...so kitschy. A Caesar should just be Mott's brand Clamato juice, vodka or gin, Lea & Perrin's brand Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco brand pepper sauce, squeezed lime wedge, and single shake of salt and pepper. Garnished with Celery and/or a non-garlic dill pickle spear. The glass should be rimmed with Hy's Lemon Pepper Seasoning and filled to the brim with ice in order to ensure the correct ratio of alcohol to other ingredients. Brand for ingredients is absolutely critical if you want perfect, imo. If you can't get Hy's lemon pepper then just use celery salt for the rim. It's important to balance the Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco, so if you like things A LOT more spicy and wanna go heavy with the Tabasco, play around with finding the right balance of Worcestershire sauce to go with it.
We had all the extras for the video - but honestly, it wasn't really worth it. It wasn't a very good Caesar compared to the ones I've had back home on Halifax. Not spicy enough, and a bit weak. If we ever get a get back to Calgary, we will have to try one somewhere else, for sure!
This video was all about dishes that originated in Calgary, so we stuck with those. It seems like that is a Calgary chain, though, which is close enough! Haha. We love a shawarma, too. We'll check it out next time we return. We need to check out Burger Baron, too. We saw that EVERYWHERE in Edmonton.
Didn't know that. That's pretty sad. We noticed in the park that there were some people that seemed to be homeless, but it was nothing compared in Vancouver. I've never seen anything like it.
@ yes - there is a pastor and his church congregation brings food for the homeless in downtown Calgary most every Sunday. The Calgary police have given him many violation tickets and this pastor has to go to court. His name is Pastor Artur Pawlowski - google it as he has a very interesting history and he’s been arrested several times by Calgary police.
I bet it is! I found it mentioned on a Reddit page for people recommending steak spots in Calgary. Hopefully, next time we visit, we won't be on such a small budget!

At Meat and Bread you gotta get mustard with the Porchetta and dip the sandwich in that.
Didn't even know that was an option! That would've been perfect.
Shafts are typically consumed quickly, sorta like an oversized shot.
Really?? That's a big freakin' shot. 🤣
Yep. You're supposed to chug it through the straw as fast as you can. People often race to see who finishes fastest
Meat and Bread is more of a Vancouver establishment. If you're ever back give Alumni a go, definitely a great (newish) sandwich spot.

If u like sushi I highly recommend Kinjo on McLeod trail!

You should've gone to Buchanan's, amazing food there
I bet it is! I found it mentioned on a Reddit page for people recommending steak spots in Calgary. Hopefully, next time we visit, we won't be on such a small budget!
