Thanks for the heads-up about the potential for that awesome train view to be lost, V! The news confirms for me the fact that this little channel of mine is partly an archival project, whether I like it or not. A park would be nice, for sure, and I will absolutely check out the one already there you mentioned with train views. Now I'm thinking I'll need to be back in Toronto for the sparkly nighttime views from the CN Tower sooner rather than later.

How was your trip? I'm doing Toronto to Winnipeg in November. Did the same trip in 1993

It was on my wishlist to have a long journey by Canadian rail and had booked the VIA train well in advance from Vancouver to Edmonton. It was a timely departure from Trans Pacific station . Most of passengers were tourists.Lovely views from the glass dome of a long train meandering along gushing clear watered Frazer river was an experience of its worth ! Lo and behold! I wasn't fully awake in wee hours when I overheard an attendant announcing that the train had reversed from Kamloops at midnight and we are heading back to Vancouver! The cause was an unfortunate forest fire ahead around Jasper .As no alternate travel plan was announced but a ticket refund ,so I booked a flight to Edmonton. Why travel to Vancouver when my flight was from Abbotsford? Surpringly,the train authorities after much deliberation and permission from higher ups accepted my request to alight at Abbotsford. It was mid of nowhere in fields as there is no designated stoppage or even station there! My friend Sukhi Bhathal was handy as ever to pick me up from there.

Good question. It isn't the best place in Victoria if you cannot do stairs, unfortunately. In it, you can see the easiest path up to the teahouse, which does have several steps. That said, I know that they have a back service door, and it may be accessible. I would check with them regarding any specific mobility issues: www.abkhaziteahouse.com/abkhazi-garden. It may not be as elegant an entrance through the kitchen if that can be arranged with them, but the tea tower there is always delicious. Best wishes!

Edmonton to Toronto is a long trip, SS! You are making the right call with a place to sleep for that duration, for sure! Being able to go to the dining car will be lovely, too. I'm not sure if you saw my Christmas trip from Edmo to Vancouver on the Canadian a couple of years ago, but it was spectacularly chilly, so do bring layers! The cost varies depending on which ticket class you purchase and when you buy. The train doesn't run every day, so you will need to plan that, for sure. Here's the link to VIA Rail's website: www.viarail.ca/en. You can put in the cities and dates, then choose the ticket class to see how much each will cost. Summer is a great time to visit Edmonton! @@NeptunianLibrarianWe just came back 2 days ago, and it was fabulous! The scenery and views are just stunning, and we crossed the Fraser River 3 or 4 times, and everything else was just truly wonderful.

Hmm... Frankly, it never occurred to me not to have music, KC, since I essentially make silent movies. Glad you thought it was nice. 🚁

The service was wonderful. You can tell they really care. The food is a bit fresher at Neverland on Broadway, but they only do set times instead of staggering the reservations, so it feels unpleasantly like feeding time at the zoo until you are in and seated, when the zookeeper disappears and you get a lovely server. Mother's Day, though, is coming up quickly! Best of luck!

Thanks for this, SS! A Dome and Park car would have been great! Lucky you! Alas, neither were there on my trip, or I certainly would have filmed that for everyone. With the bookend baggage cars, I guess the Park car, with it's view of the tracks out back, can't happen, but a Dome car or two would be nice! 🤩

@@NeptunianLibrarian it was because of the Transport Canada requiring the baggage car bookends that they removed the park car, not really sure why they got rid of the dome car. But I am glad you enjoyed the trip, the last time I took that train, was when my friend and I moved to Winnipeg and we took the train there, the newish blue cars you were on, were being fixed or something so they used the older stainless steel cars, we got bumped up to a cabin for three instead of two but shortly after departing Halifax we started to notice an issue in the washrooms. Via staff thought it might have meant the tank was full in the car so they arranged for a septic truck to meet the train in Moncton, but alas it turned out to be an electrical issue and none of the toilets in the entire car worked, they could have moved us to a different cabin in another car but it would not be a cabin for 3 and since those are at the end of each car and the restrooms for the next car was just a few feet from us, we declined because we both wanted the lower berth beds so we would not need a ladder, we got compensated for the issue and the 24 hour delay of The Canadian but made it to Winnipeg ok

Oh, how interesting! I watch train videos of other countries and wonder why VIA doesn't have a comparable little cafe car with decent, healthy options instead of junk food and cellophane-wrapped, overprocessed yuck. To know that you once could ride in economy but get a proper meal in the dining room makes me wonder if increasing ridership is actually the goal or not. Sigh.
