Greenby All Steel Hardened Hollow Hoe
I needed something to help clear the grass from around my Chestnut Trees. I tried several things, including a loop hoe, and just wasn't satisfied. I saw these advertised on my social media and decided to do an Amazon search. I found these for only $9.99 for two (about 1/6th the price of what was popping up on my adds). Long story short, the sharp, thin blade really did a great job and at only $5 each, I could use several each season and wouldn't blink an eye. Now my trees don't have to compete with the grass for nutrients and I didn't have to use any weed killer to accomplish this. I highly recommend. Just search "Hoe" on Amazon and you'll get a wealth of options....

How is a Derksen Building Delivered?
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
So, I ordered a Derksen Building and had it delivered to my farm. I didn't know what to expect but prepared as best I could. I made this video, so you'll have a better idea of how they do it in the event you order one too. I must tip my hat to the gentlemen who delivered my building. They were very hardworking, professional and they moved like the wind. I am very pleased with my building and wo...
Making a Wooden Cup - Bushcraft Style
Переглядів 5703 роки тому
My Cousin came from Alabama for a "camping trip" (five RVs and two cabins....LOL) and all around family get together. He is a fellow wood carver and regardless of the mode of camping I am doing, I like to do one Bushcraft project on the trip. This trip, I decided we would make a wooden cup, Bushcraft style. Here we are just having some fun and passing along a few tips in case you'd like to try ...
Keene Garlic Fertilizer Test
Переглядів 7083 роки тому
I just learned that garlic should be planted in the fall but can be planted in the spring (it just won't get as large). Good thing I still have my day job for a couple more years...LOL. I decided to give spring planting a try and after talking to the good folks at Keene Garlic, I settled on a couple varieties to try. We discussed fertilizer since I was getting a late start and they sell Organic...
Terra Cotta Rain Barrel
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
I purchased this rain barrel from Home Depot and had it delivered to the farm so I could water the plants in the greenhouse without impacting my well. It was an "upcycled" olive oil container so it never had any harmful chemicals stored in it. One rain shower filled it up and I have yet to empty it before the next rain restores it to full capacity. For something so simple as a rain barrel, this...
Boston Butt First try Can I do it?
Переглядів 1033 роки тому
My Wife wanted a smoker for Christmas......two years ago...LOL. It was still sitting on the back deck, unused, still under the gill cover. I decided that if she wasn't going to give it a try then I would, so I did. This was my first attempt at smoking a Boston Butt. I made the recipe up along the way from a myriad of the ones I saw out there and kind of made it my own. Sometimes that works out ...
Guide Gear 14 ft Teepee
Переглядів 4,4 тис.3 роки тому
I needed a new full sized tent but like tents that are unique. I saw the Guide Gear Teepee over the holidays and decided to give one a try. For the most part, I really like this tent and would gladly buy it again. The few things I mention in the review are not anywhere near ruling it out as a viable option. The tent also has 10 ft and 18 ft versions. The 14 ft version was just the right size fo...
Diablo Demo Demon = 9 inch Reciprocating saw blade

I've been using my reciprocating saw to cut some saplings in the orchard and cutting some small firewood. I came across the Diablo Demo Demon pruning and demo blade at the store the other day. Long Difficult Road to 2020 Nine Point Buck

This is the saga of my 2020 hunting season where I finally harvest a nice Georgia 9 point buck. The video is a little long but I felt it portrayed the struggles I went through this season with uncooperative weather and a Covid Quarantine situation. I was told by an old turkey hunter that "patience kills turkeys." I think it's safe to say that patience also kills deer.....LOL
Rexbeti Folding Saw - Do I need a Silky Saw?
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Folding saws generally don't last as long as a knife or axe so I didn't know if I wanted to invest in a Silky or Bahco saw as I would do in one of them. I found this Rebeti saw for $16 on Amazon and decided to test it out. Hmmm, you be the judge...
Renegade Blade for Weed Eater
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Sweetgum saplings were taking over my chestnut orchard so I tried the Renegade Razor Hybrid blade on my Weed Eater brush cutter attachment. My engine apparently had a vapor lock or something going on with it but eventually it started working without my intervention and you can see the blade cut 2 inch saplings with ease. I suggest you cut in a clockwise direction whenever possible or small twig...
Maple Backed Ipe Longbow
Переглядів 8 тис.4 роки тому
I bought a Derksen Shed that I am turning into my bow shop. I had some Ipe and Hard Maple that I wanted to make a longbow out of since my Hickory longbow doesn't like being in the rain when I'm out hunting. I read that it is on par with Osage and Yew when it comes to compression and is just as good when it is backed with another wood. So, this is my first bow made in my shop (rather than on my ...
Muddy Treestands Target Stand

I picked this Muddy Target Stand up at the end of last season on clearance from Wally World for $20. Since it's that time of the year to start getting our bows ready, I pulled it out and ran it through its paces. I can't count the times I've knocked over a target bag or had a 3-D target fall over where I had it propped up against a tree (pounding rebar into the ground every time I want to reloc...

Mice or rats? Mice are dumb, rats are smart. I've tried a version of this and rats use their tail to anchor themselves then stretch down into the bucket and grab the seeds I had.

The ram is small, and the valves must be 2 inches. The supply pipe for the ram must also be 2 inches long and at least 18 meters long. It transports water to the ram quickly and with greater pressure. The pipes for delivering water from the ram to the field must be larger, of a larger size, and at least an inch and a half in order to push the water. More and easier, and do not believe whoever says that the water flow pipes should be small or half the size of the water supply pipe for the ram is lying, and vice versa, the larger the flow pipes are, the more water will flow.

Start at the bottom and work up like when you're shingle a house or do siding that way the water will not leak in sad much. Yes I understand the greenhouse that needs water but it'll protect the timber framing -

Some of the rats on the Mississippi River in New Orleans around my house are able to definitely jump out, so it's a must for me to have enough water at the bottom for them to drown I did use pvc on one the other two pop cans but last night big mistake not enough water or I left to much peanut butter on the outside too were they were not desperate enough I personally think to much bird seeds and peanut butter on the two ramps tonight in the utility room one ramp and very little like a small appetizer and it should work but I have pvc on this one with a coat hanger out side two pop cans plus I feel my ramp came off the last rung of the ladder. Well, I will not stop. I ordered glue from outside the states shot down in New York I got the email yesterday bummer

Thank you. I'm having same issue. They are getting into the animal feed. Chewed right through plastic storage container to get to bird seed but when I saw thier babies in the garden mid day I knew I had a big problem. I didn't want to kill the critters but the pheromones they leave behind...anything less than a 5 miles away release, with a body of water between us, and they will come right back I'd imagine. And releasing them feels like I'm just making it someone elses problem. I'm not hiking 5 miles out into the woods everyday with a rat or two. If I got a bunch at once...maybe. Torn about it but these things got to go. They are dirty and multiply fast. Thanks for the tutorial and best of luck to your anty down in Alabama.

I plan on heating a Teepee like this with a diesel heater and blowing hot dry air in through a vent from the outside. It gets about -25F here. I have a different cabin tent with dual layer full rainfly for summer, most of the time it has a shade screen thrown over it instead of a rainfly. It just gets too hot 104F for a Teepee in the summer, I use the cabin tent to keep plastic stuff from melting, not enough trees or shade in the high semi-arid desert sometimes. The cabin tent works perfectly for what I got it for to shade my work in the summer but is impossible to heat in the winter because the whole thing is a vent. I need a Teepee winter because the snow gets deep in the high desert. If I want to get some work done I got to stay a few days I can bring some hot dry air. I still bring my -20F stuff if it fails.

I was feeding a pack of dogs that only came out at night in town. Some older more friendly ones to.. ,So I tied two 5 gal buckets to the chain link fence outside the railroad fence one day. I used nylon baling string. I put dogfood in one and water in the other. I kept checking the buckets daily when doing rounds at rail road drop yard. I started finding hoards of dead rats in water, once water was about halfway. So I did not want dead rats in the wild dogs water, so I simply put a piece of 2x4 in bucket and the nasty rats would not drown in water meant for stray animals.. So yes a five gallon bucket, rats CAN NOT climb up the smooth sides for nothin.. those rats are real dumb with some things. Remember water attracts animals as well. Like bees, snakes. So keep that in mind... Put buckets up against trees with twine at far side of property and fill 1/2 way to 3/4 full.. you will catch rats forsure... Just plain 🪣 5 gal buckets & twine to tie them to chain link fence or a tree or two is all ya need.. one day I found 7 dead big rats in bucket.. I discovered that method back in 2007 by accident.. Good luck boys, kill all those nasty rats... 🤠

I have one of those yellow storage tents with a ripped up cover that I want to try to repurpose as a stretch wrap greenhouse, and wanted to see if anyone else has tried anything similar.
