I’ve encountered black bears twice: first was In Great Smoky Mountains national park (Tennessee) as a teen. It was a bunch of us teens on a camping trip and we were pretty dumb by getting WAY too close to get pictures. I think it was a young one. It was pretty chill, sniffed in our direction but nothing happened. Second time I was in Shanendoah National Park (Virginia) with my Husband, hiking. bear was a good 50 meters away. Maybe I’m still a little crazy, but I walked just a FEW feet in its direction hoping to get a better look, (I was pretty far away). I figured it wouldn’t likely have any desire to attack, and if it thought I was too close it would more likely walk away, being that it had unlimited forrest to do so. I wasn’t expecting it to feel threatened. (It wasn’t fazed) But if you let my hubby tell the story, he’ll say I excitedly ran toward it to pet it. (NOT what happened lol). He made us leave the area immediately (sigh). My mom and I were once camping in Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado) and saw a moose pretty far off in the distance, nowhere close enough to get it upset. We and a few campers watched it munch on some plants in a pond for awhile. Cool to see. Didn’t know at the time that they can be pretty aggressive. On a recent trip to South Caroline I was walking near some ponds iin the area where there's alligator and cottonmouths (a venomous snake that likes water) but didn’t see any.
Interestingly enough, it’s the PREY animals that can be the most aggressive, as they’re used to having to defend themselves against predators. MOST predators don’t see humans as prey (unless we act like it by running away with out back to it. ) Unless we do that or it feels somehow cornered or has babies, it’s not likely to attack.
There’s a fascinating video of a hiker in Utah who stumbled across some cougar cubs. Momma wasn’t having it. She escorted him for 6 terrifying minutes as he walked backward from the area. Absolutely terrifying. But he did all the right thing by walking backward, yelling and being as big as he could while not running or EVER turning his back to her. She bluff-charged him a few times even, but She just wanted him out of the area., and he complied. If she wanted to kill him or eat him he’d have never seen her coming.
Is this the same advice for being in Lion or leopard area f you see one? (Act big, yell, don’t ever turn your back? )

there's supposedly copper head snakes in my general area but haven't come across them, even on. minor hikes. Their venom generally won't kill a healthy adult, but prompt medical attention is still very important and it will be a miserable time, severe swelling and bruising and potential medically significant complications.

So I'm as American as you get. I've been in a LOT of the states, though not all. Here's my favorite parts and some things to keep in mind. 1) I was born in Utah, lived there until I was about 9, but I lived in an area called the "Wasatch front" (feel free to google Images) which is more north, not on the desert-y or "martian landscape" looking part of the state. it was beautiful there (Wasatch). But if you like the Martian landscape look, the lower part of Utah would definitely worth it. Just make sure you're dressed for weather, which can change drastically between day and night in Utah because it's so dry. it can easily be 32 Celsius in the day and 10 celsius at night. Oh, and if you want to hike in Utah, find the UA-cam video of the guy who stumbled across some cougar babies and Mama stalked him for 6 minutes. ("Cougar stalks hiker for 6 minutes") Scary! But really, mama cougar was just making sure the guy went far away from her babies. If she'd wanted to kill him, he wouldn'tt have seen her coming. The video is educational because the hiker did all the exactly right things, why he lived to tell the tale. 2) Colorado Rocky Mountains are UN-freaking-BELIEVABLE,. It's some of my favorite landscapes. One of my favorite songwriters (who was obsessed with nature/outdoors and loved Colorado so much he took the last name "Denver") wrote a whole song about the Colorado Rockys and how life-changing it is to go there. But depending on the altitude where you normally live, Your body may actually go through physical symptoms related to the extreme altitude of the Rockies. Over-hydrating can help with this. 3) Oregon, yes yes yes definitely worth visiting. It has a LOT of beauty. But Depending on exactly where and what time of year it can be VERY rainy, so keep that in mind. Some people don't like how much it rains on the Oregon coast. And yes, most kids who were (like me) young children in the 80's DEFINITELY played Oregon trail game at school.. a LOT, during designated computer lab times. 4)Alaska I would love to visit. Not been yet. Seems aMAZING (if you can go when the mosquitos aren't too bad.) 5) For me the desert isn't where it's at. Those Utah rock formations are pretty, but prefer cozy costal towns or forrest paths . But that's just preference, I can definitely see why people would want to see the rocks and desert of the southwest, it has its own beauty, . 6. New England is GORGEOUS in the fall with the colors. 7.) The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee have a very special place in my heart. Their like stepping back into a past century..The Forrests.. 8)) My next trip I'd like to either do Upstate New York (the beautiful part nowhere near "the city") in the fall, or out west (I'd LOVE to go to Glacier, or Yellowstone or even Yosemite) But I'm on the East coast and that travel takes time and money. 8) Sorry.. I do love good barbecue, and rodeos can be fun, but to me Texas is highly overrated (don't come for me Texas peeps!) . I'm sure it has some pretty parts, but I definitely don't think of it as a pretty state at ALL, and it's definitely no where even near my top 10 places I'd like to visit next (I have been in Texas before). 9) Not sure exactly what your climate is where you live, so that would affect what you would like personally. Me, I have lived in Virginia about 20 years and it can be beautiful (Shanendoah national park is gorgeous) but I actually DESPISE the climate most of the year. there are a few (way too few) delicious crisp fall days that can be amazing, but like I said, very few... summer keeps trying to come back until December. UGH! and the humidity.. DESPISE. My preference for outdoor activity/nature is 10 celsius to 22 celsius. (yes, maybe I need a sweater or light jacket at 10, but I'd rather that then sweat. HATE THE HEAT. if it weren't for family, I would absolutely move north, maybe even to Canada. LOVE the cool.

I hate to be a downer but 90% of this is simply not true. It makes me angry that people produce stuff like this just to manipulate emotions and get views when our real history is just as meaningful and amazing. It describes the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War, so states, not colonies. There was no ultimatum. Key negotiated for the release of one man, Dr. Beanes, not a cargo hold full of humanity. It was Fort McHenry, a military fort defending Baltimore Harbor, not a refuge for women and children. The nation would not have reverted to British rule had Fort McHenry fallen. There were 50 ships, not hundreds, mostly rafts with guns. The fort is 150 miles from the ocean, across from Camden Yards ballpark. The battle started in daylight and continued for 25 hours. George Washington never said, “What sets the American Christian apart…” The British aimed to take Baltimore, not the flag. About 25 Americans died, and their bodies did not hold up the flagpole. The war involved British kidnapping of US sailors and our plans to conquer Canada. We had 7 million Americans to 80,000 Canadians and 2,000 British troops. During Napoleon's time, the Brits were busy elsewhere, and we nearly succeeded. Much false history today traces to David Barton, who pretends to be a historian to inject religious influence into our founding. He wants a theocracy, a country run by the church. Our separation of Church and State is unique and has saved us from religious wars while providing unheard-of religious freedom. We dishonor our rich, brave history with such nonsense. Shame on those who create it. I love my country and its true history.
