It makes me angry everytime I think about how Buffy’s friends were always acting towards him no matter when, even more compared to how they were always friendly to angel. Okay he was bad, and he did many bad things, but angel wasn’t a saint either, and they know it too. All angel ever did, was dropping warning, talking sweetly to Buffy, and disapearing, not to mention how shitty he treated her when he didn’t have his soul. On the other side, Spike fell in love with buffy when he didn’t have his soul, cared for her and supported her everytime she needed to, and yes, he did try to rape her. But after that? He felt so guilty and horrible that he did everything to get his soul back, to be a better person for Buffy, she forgived him and helped him, and after that he stayed by her side and helped her without asking for anything in return, just to be there for her and be with her. In many ways, he was the best support to Buffy since he realised his love for her 🔥

Spike was by far better for Buffy. James Marsters, Spike , would have been a fantastic spin off

Spike had a heart. He was “love’s bitch”, remember? He did some awful things, I won’t excuse Spike. But he realized how bad he was before getting the soul. He deserved so much more than he got in that show.

Im not trying to be a dick here... But It's fair to point out.... Angel didn't try an force himself on her in a bathroom. I know everyone's gonna be like "Well Angelus..." Yeah angelus and angel are different personalities. Spike only has one. Granted I liked Spike's character more. He killed two Slayers which Angel never did and he wasn't cursed by a soul, he chose it, but honestly (and this is an unpopular opinion) she shoulda killed them both. Letting them live cause they have souls and a f#$kin sic pack.... that doesn't change what they've done or bring back everyone they killed and even still had the potential to do more of the same. Yeah they both did good here an there but in essence, they're ticking time bombs. I donno, I just feel like anyone in their right mind, thinking logically would put them down. That's just my unpopular opinion so don't bite my head off.

I love Spike with Buffy but I think PART of it is inconsistent writing... Like if you ate truly two separate beings with/without a soul TECHNICALLY Spike wouldnt even remember his time with Buffy when he got a soul... Like the same way at least? I get that Spike was SO likeable they changed the rules for him... So I'm not complaining I just dont know... I hate to go be Angel+Buffy shippers any credit but I can SEE how its a bit unfair...

Spike was her equal and treated her as such, he was old fashionedly romantic in many ways but never pretended she was a porcelain doll. And Spike was her true soulmate (with and without a soul funnily). They were a perfect match. Buffy didn't recognise it for so long because she was too young, traumatised by Angel and all other grown-up and sometimes apocalyptic stuff in her life and because real love is painful, all the "darkness" in her wasn't of cause evil darkness, at least no more than every person has to struggle with, but it's scary for sure. And Spike was too honest for his own good. Brilliant character

Spike without a soul is more complex than Angelus, but Spike *_with_* a soul is just a dude, whereas Angel *_with_* a soul has a deeply interesting struggle between atoning for his sins and flirting with darkness, fleshed out over five seasons of his own show.

1st season of buffy,angel was dull. But season 2 saved his character and from there on is history and it was great enjoyed his character and show

The last scene 10:28 explains alot of how their characters are, spike did a lot of evil when he was without a soul, but it was never about doing evil it was about the feeling it gave him. Spike simply enjoyed living (technically he wasn’t alive but ykyk), he simply rolled with the punches and killed what and when he wanted, in his words, “never really looking back at the victims”. This is where Angelus differs, he was in it for the evil, for the feeling it gave the victims, in his words, “couldn’t keep my eyes off them”, it was all about them, he was sadistic and cunning, he wanted to ruin lives and create tragic ‘masterpieces’ out of innocents. Simply put, without a soul and morals, spike simply just didn’t give a shit and Angelus gave too much shits💀. Both were evil but in different ways, Angelus let himself be driven by malice, Spike let himself be driven by passion. I love both characters so much, they were both so beautifully written with lots of depth. Truly very different from eachother but alike in many ways. I like that their characters were written for THEM, instead of just for the plot of fighting over the the female protagonist (cough cough twilight). While Buffy did play a pivotal roll in their character growth, still it was never about who was better for her or who won her, it was about how they changed because of her. Both had great character archs and i believe they can both be appreciated. (spuffy forever tho🗣)

I always say that Spike was the true vampire with a soul. His first act after becoming a vampire was to save his mother's life, and he cried when she betrayed him. He did so much out of love, and showed so much compassion (like what's featured in this video), that I think it would have been really neat had he always had a part of his soul.

She actually DID choose Spike. In the Comic Continuation of Buffy they ended up together, a real couple, even to a ripe old age.

I1000% agree with everything stated in this video. One other big difference is Angel can barely handle the pain from a cross, like when he and Buffy kissed goodbye at the Bronze, and he let her necklace cross burn him while he tried to control his emotions. Spike draped his upper body on a large cross as a form of punishment for his past bad deeds and to ask Buffy and God for forgiveness. Then, in my favorite Angel episode, DESTINY, Angel accidentally touched a cross while he and Spike were fighting. He winced at the sizzling pain. Spike picked up that large cross with his bare hands and knocked Angel across the room. He didn't immediately drop it either. He spoke some dialog while his hands were still smoking and sizzling. Told Angel the difference between them and that Angel never knew the real Spike/William. Amazing video. Thanks for the Spike love.❤

I just feel Spike and Buffy had a real special connection, even as enemies, and they felt more equals, Angel and Buffy felt more like puppy love to me.

You could technically say she did choose Spike as she chose Spike as her champion and he one she chose to have what could been her last moments with. She also told Angel Spike was in her heart and sent Angel away.

For each man, being turned amplified the selfish pursuits of any interests that he retained when released from the boundaries of conscience and inhibition. Angel was unsophisticated already, which is why his brutish nature was so much more dangerous and showed the enjoyment he got from his cruelty. William's sensitive nature made him cruel mostly by association with Angelus and the reactive jealousy that he inspired. Spike , liberated from his insecurities and now lacking empathy, mostly revels in the novelty of the violence and adrenaline rush of it, but only until he gets distracted by something else that interests him more which then becomes his focus and pursuit. For example, his obsession with Drusilla, which of course, was heightened by the competition from Angelus, who is motivated by the cruel game there as well. Eventually that distracting thing was Buffy, and the fact that she was the Slayer is what challenged him to overcome the evil through that same pure single-mindedness that fueled his nerdiness as a man first, then his destructiveness as a vampire. Spike overcame that lack of limitation and restraint that used to be provided by conscience once he became aware that he desired Buffy, because he possessed a sophisticated enough mentality to understand what he would have to offer in order to win her and his own self-interest essentially became almost as functional in governing his behavior. Ironically, his own single-minded selfish pursuit necessitated his selfless behaviors in order to accomplish his goal, and that initially coupled with the chip effectively functioned as his conscience might have done if he were human. Had Buffy been anyone else, the challenge would not have been the same and Spike would never have evolved to the point he did in pursuit of her. I think its fair to say that neither man really LOVED her as true selfless love is defined, since both were actually driven by their own desires in the affection they had for her, although Spike's inherent nature as a person and as a demon actually made for a much better facsimile of real love that maybe did become that once he regained his soul. His heroism was only brought out in mirroring Buffy's because it was necessary to achieve his goal and no one else could have caused him to evolve that way. She is the chosen one to destroy vamps, which is why he was initially intrigued by her uniqueness as the ultimate prize and ultimate stimulus for his intellect. His devotion is to the challenge of overcoming the puzzle that she presents, as those intellectual pursuits are likely his real love, making him the perfect complement to the Slayer and her purpose. I think that is why HE is the prophecy vampire, and not Angel, and perhaps even why he was the one to get the Mountain Dew cup.

All of these reasons. And he is just so hot!
