      @@donjohnson7768 fair point, specially about it being a middling game. A good game is numero uno in drawing sales. With that said, the lack of Steam turned people off long before they ramped up the marketing. The point is that the direct sales numbers can’t be used as a barometer in its success. Each sale is worth 3 when considering the residual value in getting customers in the door.

    My favorite is SQ3 then SQ5 and there are of course similarities between the two, what always boggles me is how people cobsistently mention SQ4 as one of the best if not the best and this is going back to beginning of online Sierra fan sites and community from the late 90s when i first started finding more people who loved Sierra besides my good friend that introduced me to their software in early 90s

      @@AdventureGameHotspot I actually forgot to really make my point lol and articulate the reasons I not only personally think less of SQ4 but why I objectively think it is not in the top best of the series. I've always found SQ4 to be so lacking in exploration, freedom and fun, its so linear and restrictive on choices it just always seemed like an obvious lacking entry in the series but that is only my opinion. At the time when it released both in '91 on floppy and more so on cd-rom with voice acting, in '91 it was the 1st vga mouse parser SQ game and probably seemed technologically amazing but besides that I just never understood the hype, but again that is only my opinion though I feel there are many objective claims that can detract significantly from the game

    My personnal favorite is the sixth one because it's the first one I played and I played it back in the nineties when it was still relevant (2 was a bit dated, but that was some really nice looking 2d). I've played the other games down the line, to be honest I think the series is consistent. You can clearly see the technical evolutions but they're all funny and well crafted point and click games. None of them is particularly brilliant when it comes to the game design, and there are lots of very confusing parts and dead ends, but that's kind of part of the charm of these types of games.

The system they put in was not as good as pre cu. How many people are bots though? The cu killed my money making. I was TK/ doc on starsider top 5 buffer/ healer on the server. I crafted my own buffs using the special ingredients, best harvested materials, and tapes for clothes. Cu made it clicky like a spell no more crafting best buffs. We didn't need combat lvls either

    I like the entire Space Quest series, but I think 5 felt the most "like intended" and I do wish the story had actually kept the "star-trek" parody by making Roger fail upwards into the next two sequels. SQ6 pretty much ignored everything that happened in the previous game to get Roger back to being a Janitor quickly and that part kinda made me disappointed that we didn't get to fly the ship like we did in all the previous games (even if it was short like in SQ 1 and 2, and the timepod in 4.)

    Space Quest IV was utter junk, especially compared to Space Quest III. It had its fair share of funny moments, like the Epi-Whip 3000 (?) and the video game store bargain bin, but other than that, it's garbage. Literally no time to think in that game, and God forbid you make even the tiniest mistake and forget to write down a time code. Belongs at the bottom with the Rock'em Sock'em Minigame from SQIII.

    Space Quest is so extraordinary that picking the best one is really tough. I love that you point out that SQ5 leans into the jokes of the past -- in that way, it includes and builds on the genius of its roots. Remember when Space Quest first came out, and you could use the ship to travel around?! The Monolith Burger, Fester Blatzs, Ortega... I mean, WOW! I remember seeing the screenshots in PC Magazine and wanting the game so bad. SQ5 includes this sense of adventure but adds a crew, a mission, and an enemy all in the world that levels up the graphics by orders of magnitude. I think we're sweeping up what you are put down!! Well said! Scott wasn't in the credits of SQ5, and that's another excellent point in this video. I think, to the game's credit, it remains so true to the canon and tone of the series that it's difficult to tell. Scott Murphy may be more difficult to remove from a Space Quest game than a timely released batch of Space Monkeys. He's there in the air whether "you" (or he) likes it because he's part of and inseparable from the SQ vibe he and Mark created.

    _Well Actually:_ 1:40 there's a sarcastic ship's AI? I don't remember that. All of his crew is very sarcastic _except_ for the AI science officer. The crew is amazing! The personalities are a great mesh of sarcasm and just-enough-ism. Remember, they have been assigned to a garage scow as well -- one can only get so motivated. Further, the game perfectly captures the arc of a captain earning the respect of his crew. It's fantastic. Side Note: if you have yet to watch the Game Grumps play this game and do the voiceover, you should because it's perfection.

  • @MagusMarquillin
    @MagusMarquillin 3 дні тому

    I don't disagree, it's been my favorite in the past - though in reality I don't think I can pick just one, love them all - this was the most narrative adventure, that fleshes out the galaxy tremendously, and still pretty funny and random. I like SQ6 a lot, but it seems a shame it didn't incorporate more beyond Star Con - like even if he gets demoted for asinine reasons, at least acknowledge that Roger had a crew of whom he had earned respect and friendship, maybe for the first time in Roger's life. Even Bea barely gets a couple mentions - what happened? I know SQ is usually about new random stuff upending lonely Roger, but surely SQ5 earned more continuity. Did Joss and/or Scott disagree?

    This is not a controversial opinion in the least. In fact, I hear a large number of UA-camrs praising this entry in the series for most of the same reasons. I thought you were going to say it wasn't great or that it was overrated. However, you ended up saying the same stuff I've heard a dozen times before. Your 'controversial' opinion is actually more common than you think. ;-) I like it but it's far too tame and lacking the zany over-the-top situations from the other games. I don't want a "Star Trek" quest, I want a space quest.

    When you filmed this review, did you play Space Quest 5 on an emulator like DOS Box or Scumm VM? What program did you use to film this? The only pity about Space Quest 5 is that I never finished it, but the Space Quest series was always so difficult for me. Another sad thing about Space Quest 5 is that there was no CD-rom version of this game, so there is no voice acting. And interestingly enough this game was developed by Dynamix and not Sierra according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Quest_V

    • @MagusMarquillin
      @MagusMarquillin 3 дні тому

      Maybe no voice acting is sad, but on the other hand I don't have to compromise the voices in my head for the characters. Even when they started hiring professional actors - and by 1993, SQ5 might have been - there's something lovely about reading them aloud to myself as I play as I envision them, without the option to have others do it for me, which I'd probably take or at least be influenced by.

    Great server unless you want to play Jedi. They want you to log in for 4 hours a day for 6 months straight to unlock it, or some "impossible RNG" that (to me) looks like devs are personally handing out Jedi-unlocks to their friends. I got deep in a guild and found that out the hard way... And even if you do get the RNG, you have to farm 10 holocrons, get hundreds of POIs, and then the village which is 6 weeks long b/c they put guard rail timers on the quests. So even if you do unlock whatever tf they coded and are calling "RNG / Incite", you still wont be able to play your Jedi for until 2-3 months later. Also 1 Jedi can kill 8 nightsisters in 2 hits... So yeah, Dev team and friends are running around with god characters and hording all of the fun for themselves while carrot sticking the community into logging in to bloat their number of players online. Other than that, it's a great server.

      To clarify: during act 2 there are scenes of varying length - vignettes, companion excursions, and main scenes. There are 6 of the vignettes (the shorter scenes) but you’ll see 4 of them in one playthrough. The vignettes you see are randomly determined at the start of the game.
