#114 More Vinyl Finds #vinylcommunity
Greetings folks. Here are some records I either found in the wild or ordered online. Some really good stuff! Guaranteed!
Things I forgot to say in the video:
1. The other record stores I visited were the In Groove, Desert Grooves, and Grace Records. Didn't find anything I wanted in those places (really good stores though) - only had success at Stinkweeds yesterday.
2. Skinny Puppy album I couldn't remember the name of was Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse.
3. Butthole Surfers song I couldn't remember the name of was Lady Sniff.
Cheers everyone! Thank you for watching and supporting my channel!

Hey everyone, hope you are having a great weekend. Decided to do a 2nd video in 2 days, this time covering my Curve collection, both vinyl and cds. This was requested by a viewer of my last video, and I appreciate the inspiration to finally do this. I started compiling notes for this Curve collection video a couple years ago. And then I just procrastinated. Hope you all like it, and if you have...

'The Hurting' Tears for Fears, not one bad tune on it 😏
Oh yes! Bauhaus. Good to see other great albums on your wall, Killing Joke What's This For? and Cocteau Twins Garlands, both excellent.
You really hate Killing Joke lol
GREAT VIDEO. I AM A LIFE LONG kj FAN. WE LIVE LIKE KINGS AND QUEENS.THANK YOU FOR THIS PASSION.
Hi Mike, another superb video. Lots of new stuff to me. SFOTW and Skinny Puppy excellent choices. Boss Hog punky blues look great. Julie seem an interesting band. Happy date anniversary 🎉🎉
Thanks Mike, great to hear from you! Cheers!
Wow!! That looks like the complete set! 👍. How do the two “Skylarking” pressings differ?
Well, Mazzy Star's OK, the rest is tripe.
Cool.
Phoenix reprAZent!! 😁. Seems we share a common interest in noise-rock type stuff! Kimber was kind enough to special order AmRep Records for me at the old Mesa Stinkweeds location back in ‘94. Will check out more of your videos. Nice job 👍
Thanks, I used to shop at her Mesa location when I first moved to AZ back in 95. Saw a few bands play there as well. Thanks for watching!
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 East Side Records in Tempe was another cool shop. I have no idea if it exists anymore. Never saw any bands at Stinkweeds, but did see The Hold Steady and Will Oldham at Modified Arts. Do “First Fridays” still happen in downtown PHX these days? Haven’t been to one of those in more than 10 years, but they always made for good date-nights 🙂
I Want.
Thanks to these videos, I listened to all the albums again. My favorites are really different from the ones chosen by this channel.
That's what's great about a band like Killing Joke. We can all love different songs and albums by them.
Hi, have you got the Spiralee reimagined Emma Anderson Pearlies LP on order?
I haven't ordered it, not sure if I will. Do you think I should? I was just going to download it, wasn't sure if I wanted it on vinyl.
Yay Boss Hog! Yay Stinkweeds! Will have to check out Julie (LOVE THE SWIRLIES - going to see them twice in November!) Use the stencil to make your own Julie t-shirt.
I would love to see the Swirlies again. I saw them back in the 90's, really small show, with Lilys opening.
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 Lilys and Swirlies - two of my top three favorites! Haven't seen Swirlies since they toured with Lilys in the early 2000s. Can't wait!
Scraping Foetus is Tom Waits mixed with Mr Bungle mixed with NIN ☺️
I bought that gatefold deluxe new and had the guys from LNR sign it in 1985 at Fenders Ballroom and had Peter Murphy sign it out in front of KROQ building in Burbank when Dusty Street had him on the radio
Where are you able to buy lots of vinyl so quickly?
I have all these and pretty much agree with all your song choices. Great topic!
Thank you for watching!
The Church during the EMI years 81 to 85 produced albums so far and away above in quality from their Australian competitors it was ridiculous. Very much in the vein of Echo and the Bunnymen albums, but more consistent and poppier. The 4 albums and 3 mini albums were Byrds/Canterbury pop/Chamber pop of the highest order.
Will have to check that out, thanks!
I would have to say all The Cure albums, bar none, are between 60% to 70% great albums. They always had 3 or so meh songs.
Thanks for watching
Adam and the Ants "Kings of the Wild Frontier" is so strong and bold, even the weaker songs like "The Human Beings" sound like Native Indian spirit incantations.
I really love that album, a true classic.
Great t shirt Mike. The Low Life boxset looks superb. That was a great find. I must get the NIN debut as well. Mike
I absolutely agree with your Dead Can Dance choice. Their first five albums are timeless, the rest of their discography I can happily live without. On the other hand, my favorite Cocteau Twins record has always been their debut album...
I think Garlands is a great album on its own, just not one of my favorite CT albums compared to the later stuff. Thanks for watching!
I love your videos because you give me a fun evening of sampling some artists/albums that I probably wouldn't have otherwise found. You're also a natural on camera, very pleasant to listen to. Keep it up. I think you're going to have a growth spike in subscribers soon!
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words!
Hi Mike, very nice your son is getting into music. My boys never did, neither ever pulled a single album to listen to. Aliens, I saw the first one and that was enough, too much tension putting me on edge. Great movie, I just like to be relaxed more in a theatre lol
This new Alien movie is tense throughout, with some really crazy scenes, but very entertaining and well done. I hope my kids continue to explore new music, and old music, and enjoy it as much as you and I do. Thanks for watching, Steve!
Classic NIN album. The reissues I bought disappointed me. This one looks interesting with the gatefold. Nice Storm the Studio! Never had that Meat Beat one. I just have their Psych Out single. 808 State had some big hits with Pacific State. I really like their 90 album. Cheers man!
This NIN reissue sounds pretty good to me. Psych Out is a cool song, need to get that 99% album on vinyl. Thanks!
Hosanas is a killer album! Heard it for the first time last year picked it up on CD. I need more Killing Joke on vinyl. Nightime and the debut are faves of mine too and Whats this for! Good Rush picks too - Tom Sawyer is timeless.
I love Hosanas, and I would put Revelations as another very underrated KJ album. Tom Sawyer is timeless indeed. Thanks, cheers!
Never really got into Goldfrapp or Metric. Love Technique (was my first New Order LP) and Republic is maybe my fave overall by them. I need to pick up more Dead Can Dance. Im more of a Breeders fan than Pixies. Good video! I might hop on this idea too. Cheers man
Breeders are great, wish I could see them live some day. Not sure how I feel about that new Kim Deal single. Cheers Jason!
Really enjoyed this video Mike. Great that you went through so many artists. I was waiting for Stereolab 😁 killing Joke Revelations would be my underrated. Dead Can Dance I definitely agree with your best. Cocteau’s I think my best would be Garlands, and yes as suspected my entry point 😁 Very good video, excellent thread idea. Mike
I would agree, could easily have put Revelations in that spot. Very underrated. Thanks for watching, Mike! Cheers!
Great choices! Enjoyed this 😺
Thank you, thanks for watching!
Lucky bugger
808 State were pretty huge in the UK between 89-91. When every kid in England was holidaying in Ibiza when rave took over the country their track 'Pacific State' became a Bealeric anthem, they had two other huge top tens 'In Your Face' & Cubik' that are both still iconic over here. New Order are incredible, but if I'm honest I love Technique & Substance..but I'm actually hit & miss with the others, its hard to hear BLT & Perfect Kiss not in 12" versions.
Love that Ninety album by 808 State. And Cubik was pretty cool too (did that have A guy Called Gerald still in the group then?) Technique and Republic are my two fave New Orders LPs.
I really envy people who can enjoy New Order, because they are just not for me. Other than few tracks like Blue Monday and True Faith, I don't find their music convincing enough for my taste. For me they represent a huge drop in the level of songwriting considering the perfection of Joy Division's output. It is like night and day...
Really? You don't like their songs "Leave Me Alone", "1963", "Ceremony", "Dreams Never End", "Paradise", "Vanishing Point", "All Day Long", "Dream Attack".
@@jessmanuel540 'Ceremony' is good, I have to admit.
Hey Mike! As I got into electronic music in the mid 1990’s, I bought ‘Subliminal Sandwich’ because I liked the industrial, dub and trip-hop elements in there. Still have my original vinyl copy but haven’t listened in a long time. I haven’t really checked their other albums, but now I want to 😊
Very cool, definitely check out Storm the Studio, to me it is their masterpiece.
I had the same feeling about getting industrial dance stuff or EBM on vinyl Seemed dum but after getting a couple records I changed my mind. They still sound better than the cd versions, when they are dine decent.
I totally agree. Not all but most of my electronic music/industrial albums sound better on vinyl. Thanks for watching!
Around the Fur and Koi No Yokan are two of my favorite Deftones albums, I enjoy your videos as always.
Thank you. I really like that Koi No Yokan album because the whole thing is consistently good, without any one song really standing out to me. I also really like Saturday Night Wrist, the self titles album, Diamond Eyes and White Pony. Great band. I'm liking the Crosses project too.
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 Yes sir, Saturday Night Wrist and Diamond Eyes are great too! Also check out Team Sleep.
The Blue Nile albums have been reissued recently. As well as A Girl Called Eddy first album, Riverside's One album. Also The Softies vinyl albums are all available on Bandcamp. And their new album too!
I don't know any of those bands, but I will check them out. Thanks!
Psychedelic Furs debut album. Love and Rockets “Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven” Roxy Music “Avalon”
Thank you...off-topic...one thing that confusses slightly...in all the time I have been watching your channel, you never mention McCarthy...they were one of my favourite bands around 1985-87 both musically and politically, founded by Tim Gane, with Lætitia joining near the end. I guess McCarthy isn't your thing...or you don't feel strongly enough to speak about them in depth...
I am Matt from Hastings Sussex In the UK and I love punk metal thrash hard rock in fact anything noisy that pisses normal people off. Now since 1981 when I was in my last year at school, I discovered the WARDANCE AND PSYCHE 7-inch single by the amazing KILLING JOKE and I have all there albums that they have done also a few bootlegs and rare live albums. So now at the young age of 58, I love my music now as much as when I was a teenager and I refuse to change for anyone . P S I also love Dead Kennadys P I L METALLICA GBH SLAYER AND MANY OTHER GREAT BANDS.
That's awesome. Killing Joke has created a lifetime of amazing music. Dead Kennedys are great too!
That first one shaped me from the start
Speaking of local bands, were you in Gainesville, FL when Holopaw were around? I caught them play once in that town as I passed through a lifetime ago, John Orth had painted his suit and Stetson hat with white house paint, to give an impression à la Hank Williams. They were a respectable local band to have I think...growing up in Northampton, England when I did, we only had Bauhaus, remember them? Funnily Pete Murphy was not aversed to painting himself white. Lovely Irish family, his granny lived near us, and I worked with his cousin in my first job after leaving school...
The only local Gainesville bands I remember while going to school there were N Dolphin, Big Soul, and Aleka's Attic (River Phoenix's band). Bauhaus would have been cool to go see at a local show back then. Thanks for watching!
I totally agree, do the video in one take and accept all the warts that happen during it lol. I thought about summer tag but I’m just too lazy to pull all those albums and then put them away haha. I am watching yours and living my tag through you!
Thanks Steve. I know what you mean, takes a lot of prep and post-video clean-up to do these tags. But it was a fun one to do. Thanks for watching!
Excellent update as Always! I just ordered what appears to be the last copy of the Pain Teens LP from Trancesyndicate via Discogs. Watching your channel is becoming expensive!!!
Hopefully they send you a poster with your record too. Let me know if you get one and what it is! Thanks for watching!
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 Will Do!
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 I received the exact same promo poster you did!
@@simonblack301 Very cool, that Destroy Me Lover album is a great one!
Hi Mike, what’s a love ballon? On second thoughts don’t answer that. Seriously though a great selection shown there. I’m enjoying this summer tag. Andy
99 Luftballons. Luft stands for "air" in German. Thanks, the summer tag was a fun one.
Fun fact about Destroy me lover by pain teens. The album cover is the first edition of William s burroughs’ junkie! Great video as always mike.
Did not know that. Thanks for that bit of trivia!
I listened to almost all of Stereolab albums and for me personally Sound Dust is their best work and Space Moth their best song...
Space Moth is great, one of the best on that album, Andy's work on those drums really carries that song. Thanks for watching!
Lots to like here. I actually bought 'Isnt Anything' on vinyl week of release & its not a great pressing. I showed that repress & it blows it out of the water. An incredible record imo. I'm sure ive commented before but that Scratch Acid ep is a major grail for me. Owners Lament! I bought all the BH albums on Touch & Go, I think the first four are the greatest run of any band. 'Locust' is insane. Everything you've shown is killer.
Thanks, Owners Lament is a great song, everything on that ep is brilliant. Agreed, Locust is an insane album, wish they were still touring. Thanks for the comments!
Spectacular video! I really enjoyed it! Would you please recommend a few Curve sounding SPCECO tracks please. I totally missed them. Keep up the great content!
I would recommend their first 3-4 albums (they have 17) for that familiar Curve sound. As for specific songs, I would say "fallen stars" and "free fall" off Sirens and Satellites, "break it out" and "give you nothing" off the Don't Say EP, and they actually do a cover of a Curve song on the You Tell Me album, the song "left it out" is a cover of "something familiar" from Curve's Come Clean album. Most of their early stuff sounds a lot like Curve. Another great SPC ECO song is "blame", from the "Static Waves 3" compilation. They are so prolific, check out their Bandcamp page, they have hundreds of great songs on there to download.
@@playvinylinthemilkynight1879 Thanks! Much appreciated!!!
Got the locust lp in the background and Big Black and Ministry!
I would have thought Cigarettes After Sex would have been older people to, wow, I like young people music
Yes you do, Steve.
I would love to see Men Without Hats. I love Safety Dance and Pop Goes The Wolrd but after that I don’t remember any of their songs lol. What a great vacation.
Men Without Hats really surprised me, such a great show they put on. And I can't wait to go back to Manhattan, I love it there.
