    No disrespect to you personally or your fine tutorial but it defines all logic to me that any country still wants to stick to the imperial system instead of transitioning to metric! 🤣 sheesh 9/32nds plus 14/16ths + 4/8ths.... I understand that it's hard to get used to something new ('m in my 60s from the UK so I know about it first hand) but metric is sooooo much simpler. You use the metric for your currency in America but stopped there 🤪

      Actually I’m Canadian, and I’ve been teaching (Taught Design tech, Industrial Arts, Shop. Depending on where you live) metric since 1974 but much of my audience is mostly American. Since Canada is so close to the States, it’s kind of a mix here. Either way, the plan works for both systems of measurement. Lumber and sheeting come only in Imperial, but sheeting thickness is metric. Ya, I know it’s screwed up. lol

      @@wilsonsfinewoodworking any country that can cope with two languages can cope with two systems of measurement! :) Please excuse my assumption that you were in the States - I'm usually very good at picking up on a Canadian accent but I guess all those fractions distracted me this time ;)

    Thank-you. This a superb step-by-step practical overview of cabinet design, and then ties it all together by showing how the simplified, rational design leads to an organised and successful (less stressful!) glue-up. I have been building similar logic into an Excel worksheet, so that it can calculate the cut-list for each cabinet. Overlaying your methods and formulas on what I've done so far will be helpful. New subscriber! It also served to lay bare a couple of errors I made while completing a glue-up just last night. I used Titebond I rather than Titebond III, thereby critically reducing my working time, and I had cut the dados too tight, leaving no room for glue and causing the loss of critical time fitting the pieces together. Lessons learned!

    Hello, Mr Wilson! I just found your channel when this video dropped. I guess the UA-cam ghosts knew I needed to have another teacher! I do have a question about using a jointer, if you have a minute to answer. I have my Dad’s old (he bought it new somewhere between 1977 and 1980) Craftsman 4” jointer. My question is how much downward pressure should I apply as I run stock through? I seem to consistently end up with a thinner board at one end, by upwards of 1/16th of an inch. I always take the thinnest cut setting at 1/32”, I use parallels and a torpedo level to set my infeed table height to the top height of the blades, I use a depth gauge to set the outfeed table height, I keep all shavings cleared away and I keep my blades clean and sharp. I’ve deduced the issue has to be down to me. Well, I think it’s me, anyway 😂 I feel like I use a steady pressure along with a steady pace but I’m not getting the correct result. Could you share any insight as to the possibility of where I am using the machine incorrectly? Thank you in advance for your help and understanding!

    • @wilsonsfinewoodworking
      @wilsonsfinewoodworking 6 місяців тому

      Push downward just enough to keep the board flat, but as much as possible on the outfeed table as soon as there is sufficient material to do so. Outfeed tables should not be adjusted. Depth is set by only adjusting infeed table. Check my video on HOW TO ADJUST A JOINTER. Pay attention to the pair of boards used to set the adjustment wheels!

      I once read that a 6" dado set has less inherent flex. But in practice, I have never seen this to be an issue between 6" and 8" sizes. An 8" can make approx 3" deep dado, but that would be extreme. I run 6" dado stack on a 5 HP 10" saw.

    Hi very nice video i just bought a real heavy band saw 180cm highth and trying to set this machine up properly. But i have a qwestion bout how round should the upper weel rubber surfes be? The 2 rubber tires are new bought from USA so new rubber tires on the up and down weel. It would be nice to have this explained to me. Is it even possible to have these weels flat? and not rounded. My weels is like this the upper weel rounded with a little edge in the midle of the tires. The guy before me did this because he thought it was rigt. Dont think its corect or am i wrong here? And how in that case shoult these rubber weels be rounded. and how do you fix this. regards

    • @wilsonsfinewoodworking
      @wilsonsfinewoodworking 8 місяців тому

      Sorry for the late reply. The blade should ride on the crown of the tire. Convex shape. I’m not sure why that edge is for in the centre of the rubber wheel. The wheel is shaped this way to make it easer to track. This is me guessing it probably has to do with two reasons it shaped this way. One it’s better for heat displacement on the blade. More pressure in centre of round surface with a flat blade. Two, torque on the blades twist. Also precision tuning.

      There are two type of bandsaw tyre,flat and crowned,both are correct according to the make of saw.Crowned are probably more common. Some wheels have groove and the tyre will have a corresponding moulding in the rubber to fit into that groove to locate the tyre in the correct position

    I am working on a project where I am cutting through 5 inches of material to form a Gothic window with stain glass panels. I’ve refreshed myself multiple times on tracking and looked at many UA-cam videos. When it comes to the upper wheel, some suggest that the teeth should be close to the crown others say the blade should be in the center IAM confused.

    • @wilsonsfinewoodworking

      You want the blade to be centred in the crown when pressure is applied to it as your pushing the wood through when cutting.

      Hard to say without seeing it in person, but I’d check whether your upper wheel is leaning too much towards the front of the saw. Also check of the upper wheel while the blade is under tension and machine is off is loose. What brand and size of blade are you using, and how much do you spend on the blades?

    • @RenoScruggs
