Are able to travel with a carry on suitcase, backpack/personal bag and a crossyboddy/fanny pack? So essentially 3 bags?
It totally depends on the airline. Some are stricter and count your purse as your personal item. Other airlines will allow you to bring a personal item like a backpack along with a small fanny pack and count it as one.
Laurie is my go to for travel tips. Besides that she seems like a lot of fun to hang out with, she’s like a Blast in a Glass ❤😂
When are you doing the toiletries video?
Love the sleeping mask! Where can I get that exact one?
No shoe bags??
First - when will part 3 of this video series be coming out? I’ve used the Tripped packing cubes for several years now and they are a game changer. I also use both rolling and folding methods with the clothes-it all depends on the item being packed. It took us a few times traveling carryon only to finally NOT overpack. We are now down to one TSA approved carryon (roller or backpack depending on where we will be traveling) and one TSA approved personal item. It used to be the roller and the backpack which resulted in waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpacking. Two+ weeks in one back and a personal item and we are so incredibly happy and can easily maneuver in public transportation or pivot easily when flights need to change mid trip.
Why not just pack your wardrobe. You are really just transferring it to that rack 🤣🤣
We have a part 2 that shows us packing the suitcase! You can catch that here: ua-cam.com/video/EFtAe9EfApw/v-deo.htmlsi=o4Qv66gSW6Em6vAg
Just a sidenote, the carry on is a big compression cube - I’ve been telling it to my friends and children: pack all the clothes on one side, zip that. Put all your toiletries, shoes, bags, extra jacket on the open half. Unzip the suitcase expansion zipper, close the suitcase, compress it. If you do it a day in advance, there is more space in the suitcase the next day. I also have a bag (mine is from lululemon) that I use for personal item - it has a compartment on the bottom, sometimes, I put shoes in there, umbrella, extra jacket etc, zip that and use the upper part for the plane necessities. It is a great extension for your carry on, esp on a two week winter trip.
I only carry on my bag when I travel
A cashmere sweater and a windbreaker is warmer than a sweatshirt and takes far less room. Also, about 4PM the trade winds start and it can be chilly so t is a good idea to have a long sleeve shirt with wind breaker. I also take an SPF 50 shirt or two.
There is so many rules and tradition around the Ryokan lifestyle and I think they don't promote to foreign travellers due to many people not knowing all the rules and perhaps some not respecting the rules.
Stop...Did no one explain to this young lady what Raw Dog.....ing really means????
😬😬
My challenge is going on vacation in "between" seasons -- don't know if it will be tank-top hot or puffer-jacket cold. And foot problems... multiple pairs of shoes. Ack!
This is where What Ifs come into play! "What if I'm too uncomfortable on a walking tour?" or "what if I'm too cold at dinner?" Add in items that fulfill these what ifs and you'll be good to go!
How many sets of such clothes? because in the video there is like 1 set of clothes. Will you wash them during this trip or not?
Instead of packing by number of outfits, we use our 3 Day Packing Method to pack which allows us to make several outfits out of only 3 days worth of clothes. Washing in between if needed!
That's definitely not hand luggage only...too much
This fit perfectly in the overhead compartment!
I pack a days worth of clothes in my backpack in a small packing cube in case the airlines loses our luggage
Smart idea! If I'm going to somewhere tropical, I'll always add a bathing suit in too.
Great video, great method…but it was driving me crazy that one side of your shirt was untucked lol
It's the French Tuck 🤷♀️
Thanks for sharing .
What time of the year were you there? Packing tips depend on the time of the visit. We will be going in early December. What would you suggest? Thanks a lot.
Southern hemisphere in December will be great weather! Biggest suggestion would be to bring a rain coat.
Interesting but try to summarize in 3 min and skip the long intro
My "What if..." I am going to two distinct locations in one trip. Say, Canada Rockies in December and then, going on to Greece with no home in between? Is that a 6 day pack?
An added challenge with 2 vastly different climates, but still 3 days! Your "what if" could be "what if I'm too cold in the Rockies" and add in a warmer jacket. Think through every step of the 3 days and you'll be good to go!
@@TrippedTravelGear Thank you so much, I am thinking about this in terms of a capsule wardrobe at home as well. I think it has potential.
I love this idea and definitely prefer to travel carry-on only. However there is a weight restriction too. I’d like to know what that all weighed?
This was about 22 lbs!
Everything looks great and I learned a lot the only thing is I don't like placing my shoes in my suitcase without being in a bag of some kind. Otherwise of course you're doing a great job because that's what you do LOL
Our 7-Piece Compression Cube Set comes with a shoe bag 😎
I suffered through an hour and a half of another travel video that was super painful, taking tons of notes as I watched. Then I came across your video and was so pleasantly surprised. It was so enjoyable. I can’t wait to see your other videos. ARIGATOU GOZAIMAAASUUUU!!!! 😊
This made me smile!! Thanks for watching, so glad this video was a step above the rest for you!
I over pack. 9 days,bad weather.winter coat in big bag ( from grocery store,) 21" travel pro carry on.. stuffed.under seat bag..holds meds,laptop,liquid bag,hot chocolate mix,jewelry,. Cane. I get w/c to immigration, taxi.refrig,microwave,coffee/ hot water pot.got too much crap.😮😮😮
It's tough to get out of the mode of overpacking!
I see👀👀👀 you Dad I am so proud💪💪💪😊😊 of my favorite😍😍😍 things that make me🏆🏆🙏🙏 Thank you for all your friends👭👬👭👬👭👬 with me
I could definitely get that all in a carry on 😂❤😂
I cut a piece of card the same size as the packing cube, and I use this to fold everything thats going in that cube, so they are all the same size too. I do this for each packing cube.
Great idea!
Great video. I’m looking forward to your personal item bag packing and toiletry bag ps king videos.
Excited to try this out, double journey coming up. First girls trip for 4 nights then straight to an onsite overnight with work. Happy I found your blog.
The perfect time to test it out!
I just discovered your channel today. I’m 3 videos in and you have converted me to the idea of using packing cubes. Just might be putting your packing cube sets on my Christmas wish list 😉 Thanks for all of the tips!
The perfect time to ask for a new set 😊
Ok, this is genius! I subscribed 😊 I am really good at traveling with a carryon for months on end, but I always love new ideas and tricks. 😊 I'd love your take on a cold weather capsule. My travels are usually in colder weather. It's taken time and trial and error but I've gotten there.
Ooo! Let us know how this new method works for you!
I’m curious how much that weighed.
about 22 lbs!
Finally! Someone who speaks my language! I’m stressing over a trip in 6 months - 17 day cruise ending w/ 3 days in Ca and a trip to Disneyland (can’t forget my ears!) then a long flight home. I want carryon only so this video is working for me! Thank you ❤
That is the perfect trip to test out the 3-Day Packing Method on!
The only downside of the compression cubes is the weight issue especially here in Australia where we are only allowed a lousy 7kg
Total downside! Sometimes you can pack TOO much!
Love your packing philosophy! We also have your tripped compression bags and have for years. I would love to know more about your straw tote bag! I’ve seen it in other videos and haven’t been able to find it from doing a Google search. Thanks!
So glad you're loving the gear! The tote is by a brand called Izzy & Ali.
sounds like a longer explained version of the a 333 method.
Actually quite different! The 333 method is about counting the amount of clothing items that you're bringing ie 3 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, 3 shoes. The 3 Day Packing Method allows you to bring as many items as you need for 3 specific days of your trip.
Yes you are the packing expert!!! I used your packing method and I am currently in Paris - this worked so well for me! One small carry on, a crossbody bag and a personal item bag. I have exactly what I need using your three day method! I’m traveling solo and your method has been amazing and stress free.
LOVE this!! Thank you for testing out the method!
Are north face puffy jackets good for October hikes?
North Face is a great option!
I take a sheet of paper and draw all my clothes for the trip. Then almost like paper dolls you can “ play” with your outfits. I always pack lots of underwear because you may not want to wash underwear. I have gotten pretty good at only taking a carryon and large purse type thing for under seat.
We feel the same way!
Ok, what's was the weight of this carry-on bag. That's my next challenge to avoid overweight fees for either domestic or international flights.
@@valeriebolden-marshall2477 It was about 22lbs!
👍 it’s interesting to see how you think it through. I start with my shoes. 3 pair. Usually the travel day is a pair of dressy loafers (easy on & off) plus 2 others - dressy ish but comfy sandals that can double as beach wear and running shoes. Once I pick shoes everything else has to work with them. 3 essential Purses- the personal item is usually my Longchamps LE Pliage and I have a small nylon RFID Baggalini cross body that will disappear into my bigger bag if required. Not counting a neck thing with my passport, cash, credit cards, ID & travel documents that disappears into my top. I pack a dressy clutch, and blingy jewelry plus a favourite black silk, lace and beaded wrap to wear with a light black silky top to dress up my black dressy casual pants with. Whether I wear the sandals or the loafers it’s all black and dressy now. From then on its daily clothes to fit the occasions and the weather. I’m working with my 3 pairs of shoes & 3 purses which are in my favourite neutral- black. I have a pair of dressy casual black pants and a black silk top already. Hot climate: Beach or pool is next- 2 bathing suits and a cover up that will double as a light jacket- my favourite white linen blouse. 2 linen shorts- beige & white plus 3 tank tops in a bright accent, black & white. That white linen blouse will look wonderful with the black linen tank and the dressy black pants so that’s another option. Linen blends work well to resist wrinkles but I like the casual look of linen. I hand wash as needed. Cold climate: I have 2 coats that scrunch up into tiny bags - a black down puffer and a navy windbreaker. Those are wonderful to use in winter when travelling somewhere warm as they pack away easily when not needed. Travel outfit: usually the black loafers which slip on & off at security but stay on easily if I have to run for a gate. The black dressy casual pants. The dressy black silky tank top, big silk scarf in a colourful print, thin black merino wool cardigan and the Le Pliage plus crossbody. A nice pair of pearl stud earrings which I wear a lot & will be my main jewelry choice. For extra warmth I always wear my grey cashmere shawl scarf and black puffer coat but those stuff into my Le Pliage or carry on when I’m not wearing them. I strip down as needed to the tank top (a rayon polyester very breathable blend, that rinses out in a sink, dries quickly) and pants. The travel day outfit is elevated enough that I get upgraded to business class at times. I’m pulled together but it’s comfortable. The pants are actually a dressy breathable pair of Ponte knit with an elastic waist and have a little give to them. The top is the silky rib knit rayon blend tank that works for dressed up evenings by adding the silk and lace beaded wrap, the clutch, sandals and blingy earrings. Cardigan jackets are the easiest second layers, adding warmth and pulling a look together so I choose 2- the travel day is always the thin black merino and tropical climates the white linen blouse is essential so a nice accent colour or alternate neutral is my second choice. Skirts, pants or shorts- pick 3. For each bottom pick 2 tops. If it’s cold pick at least 2 wool or cashmere pullovers to go with the pants and several cotton T-shirts for comfort underneath. A dress if needed. A couple of earrings, another scarf for added colour and print, a folding umbrella in a vivid cheerful colour- hot pink or red so an Uber or taxi can see you easily as the right person. I don’t bring my whole skincare routine but I pare down to my absolute essentials. Those makeup eraser cloths eliminate a liquid or balm leaving me pack just a moisturizer that doubles as an eye cream plus an SPF. I buy a body SPF there. Makeup is minimal- lately I’ve been using the Merit stuff - especially the stick foundation/concealer and the brush plus bronzer stick, an eyebrow pencil and mascara. A Bobbi Brown eye shadow stick blends with my finger. A lipstick doubles as a cream blush. I like a powder compact with a mirror & I have a retracting brush so touch ups are easy. I pick a neutral daytime lipstick and a classic red, berry or bright shade for evenings. One pair sunglasses, 1 watch. A packable sun hat.
Would love to see an European 8 week summer trip, in a 20.5x13.8x9inch carry on. Carry on only and a tiny personal item. With weight limit of 7Kg total. I’d love to know if it’s possible. Limited technology, no makeup etc…no hikes. Holiday only.
We have a video on packing for our European vacation! ua-cam.com/video/xlePkWZkQ8A/v-deo.htmlsi=bBUN6XI1tj7H0wfv
I love your method. Thanks for sharing this video. I was wondering where you got the shirt you’re wearing… It is such a nice style.
It would be nice if you gave us an idea of the temperatures you are talking about. If it's in the 50s, that is tanktop, shorts, and a hoodie weather. If it's 40s, I might wear pants if I'm not doing much walking. I go hiking (in the snow in Washington) in tanktops, and I get hot. I have never experienced temperatures where I could wear wool and walk at the same time. I imagine that is negative digits. I can't step outdoors if it's 70+. Not even in a tanktop and shorts. I was thinking of going to Iceland for the cold so I can be outside and finally get to wear sweaters. What temperature swings can we expect in summer in Iceland? I'm concerned it might be too hot.
Summers can get into the 60s! The "feels like" temperature definitely depends on wind and cloud coverage.
Can't wait for Part 3! ❤
I finally found a method, that also might fit for me! The "calories counting method" was able to ruin a whole vacation. Yes, probably I did it wrong. I would like to see a "what's in my Tripped Travel Gear toiletry bag" from you, please.
We also felt like other packing method just didn't quite do it for us! Glad this one makes sense for you!
Please stop overusing the term ‘raw dogging . It makes it less effective when you are most likely hoping to use it to make an impact. Thank you!
Have you seen the trend?? I can't imagine sitting on a flight with nothing but the flight map...
These are the type of lightweight, chic clothes that I pack. You looked so elegantly effortless - until the ripped jeans and graphic tee. If we wear classic pieces not trendy, we can look back on photos from decades ago and feel proud they could still be worn today rather than embarrassed. Think Princess Catherine not Instagram Basic. Just my tip...
I have your packing cube set and use what I call the "tube cube" for 4 pairs of Patagonia shorts i fold flat like burritos. Or use for an extra outfit to slide into my personal bag or use for sandals. Thanks for video!
Great use for the tube cube!
Um.. why do you need three pairs of shoes? how about wearing one: trainers or whatever to travel in, plus one pair of supportive Sandals( Birkenstocks or Tevas) and flip flops for beach or showers in hostels etc? That’s more than enough. ( if you MUST have heeled sandals, swap them for the Tevas and wear trainers (sneakers) or flip flops every day. I’ve been away with ONLY flip flops, which broke in India and a roadside cobbler repaired them for me, while I sat on a stool ( yes, these things are precious in many countries, so they ACTUALLY FIX THEM,) many people worldwide don’t have 3 pairs of shoes! Travel helps you realise how overprovided you are , so there’s no need to overpack next time. Get used to handwashing with a tube of cold wash soap and give a local launderer a few rupees or a couple days wages. Do some good as you travel! 😊 finding ways of thriving minimally is half the fun of travel! If you want Everything you own, why travel anyway, just sit in comfort at home and watch videos of beautiful places. It’s far more cosy ( too cosy…)
Good perspective! We always say that if more people traveled, the world would be a better place.
